Create customised material (Overall)
Go to Options > Element Attributes > Material > you will get the Material setting window
Duplicate a material (usually choose a similar one. For example, if you want to create a transparent
material, you can duplicate material – glass from the library) > Rename the new material properly >
you can change vectorial hatching for the material as well (for example, a grid waving material, you
can use a grid fill type as the hatching). > OK
When you need to apply this material on an object, you should be able to find it in the material list.
Create transparent material with customised pattern
Before we start the exercise, we need to create a room 10m x 10m x 3m high and create several
objects – 1m x1m x 1m cubes or spheres in the room.
Create a folder called Material Exercise, and create folders called Models and Scans in this folder.
You can scan material images as texture and save them to JPG format. You also can download
material texture from online texture libraries.
For this exercise, we download some textures from http://textures.forrest.cz/ .
Download image Bubbly from catalogue Organic.
Go to Options > Element Attributes > Material > you will get the Material setting window
Duplicate Glass‐clear > Rename the new material (pattern glass) >
You can also load a similar setting from Archives.
Under Create Preview with: > change to LightWorks Rendering Engine.
Deselect Disable unrelated Controls> you will get Exposure to Light and Vectorial Hatching in the
material setting window.

Try to change the number in the Set Parameters box (width, height, Scale etc.)
Click Reflectance > Try to change glass to others > Observe the difference of the material in the
preview window. (Mirror factor and Refraction in Glass setting are important. Try to change the
number and see the difference)
Click Displacement > Change to Link to Colour Refraction >OK
Apply Customised Material
Select one of the cubes > mouse right click > Object selection settings > Under Model > deselect Use
Object’s Materials > Click General button > Find Pattern Glass > OK

result.
Notice the shadow and transparency effects!

In the preview, you can see the change of the material.
Now, try to create several materials to represent transparency, smoothness, roughness, softness,
colourfulness etc.
Remember: you can use other media such as Photoshop and freehand colour sketching to add visual
