Subernarekha Multipurpose Project

Project at a Glance :

Subarnarekha Multipurpose Project is a joint project of Jharkhand,


Orissa and West Bengal state for which tripartite agreement was signed
between undivided Bihar, Orissa & West Bengal on 07.08.1978.

The components of the projects are as follows :(i)

Chandil Dam on River Subarnarekha.


Chandil Left & Right Main Canal and Distribution System
(Chandil Left Main Canal to feed Jharkhand and West Bengal).

(iii) Galudih Barrage on River Subarnarekha.
(iv) Galudih Right & Left Main Canal (Galudih Right Main Canal to
feed mainly to Orissa State). Ex. Galudih Barrage
(v)
Icha Dam on River Kharkai.
(vi) Icha Left and Right Main Canal and its Distribution System.
Ex. Icha Dam
(vii) Kharkai Barrage on River Kharkai.
(viii) Kharkai Left & Right Main Canal and its Distribution System.

In addition to the above, flood moderation will be done in all the


three states through Icha Dam & Chandil Dam.

Financial aspects :Originally the administrative approval for the project for ` 128.99
crores was accorded in the year 1977. The fourth revised administrative
approval for ` 2869.76 crores was accorded by Government of
Jharkhand in the year 2003 on 2001 price level. The fifth revised
estimate for ` 6613.74 crores has been approved by CWC and
Investment Clearance has been obtained from Planning Commission.
The Project has been approved for inclusion under AIBP of MoWR
Govt. of India. During the 2011-12, a grant of Rs. 335.54 Cr. has been
released in the month of February 2012. Due to late release of grant
only expenditure of Rs. 174.37 Cr. has been done during 2011-12.
Unutilised grant has been released during 2012-13 and an expenditure
of Rs. 63.83 Cr. has been done upto August 2012. The rest grant will
be utilised soon and Utilisation Certificate will be submitted.
Till March 2012, ` 2389.598 crores has been spent. Hence,
(6613.74 2389.598) = ` 4224.142 crores will be required to complete
the project.
