PR

prasenjitbhattacharya asked on September 10, 2014

I can not set up the wifi termed as 'Soft Wi.Fi' through my recent purchased Huawei E3131 datacard
to connect other wifi enabled device with my laptop network. Windows 8.1 is installed in my laptop
and when ever I'm plugging in the datacard every time it asks me to install the mobile partner
software and when I like to start the soft wi.fi. then Unable to start the WiFi. message comes in
display. Kindly help me to find out the remedies.

Hi Prasenjit,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

A hotspot is a site that offers Internet access over a wireless local area network WLAN through the
use of a router connected to a link to an Internet service provider. Hotspots typically use WiFi
technology.

Do you have any specific application of data card to create WiFi hotspot?

Perform steps mentioned below to create a WiFi hotspot.

1. Press the Windows + R key combination to bring up a run box, type ncpa.cpl and hit enter.
2. When your network connections open rightclick on your Wireless network adapter and
select properties from the context menu.
3. Now switch over to the Sharing tab and allow other devices to use your machines internet by
selecting the first checkbox and then unchecking the second before clicking on the OK button.
4. Now rightclick in the bottom left of your screen, to launch an administrative command
prompt.
5. The first thing we need to do is set up the wireless network, this is done using the netsh
command like so:
netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=Microsoft key=Pa$$w0rd
Where ssid is the name of your network andkey is the password you want users to connect with,
its also worth mentioning that the access point is created with WPA2PSK AES encryption. Now we
are ready to start broadcasting our network:
netsh wlan start hostednetwork
The last command you will need to know is the show command, it will tell you things like the
channel you are on as well as the number of clients connected to your network:
netsh wlan show hostednetwork

Let us know the status of the issue. If you need further assistance, please post back. We will be glad
to help you.
Regards,
Anil

Dear Anil,
I've purchased Huawei E3131 to use the wifi facility provided with this device by the manufacturer.
So I want to connect other devices with my laptop through this Huawei device. Regarding your
guide line I've gone through the steps mentioned by you but in step 3, I've faced some problem and
the step can not get completed. A local network dialog box containing " To enable Internet
Connection Sharing a connection must be selected for the private network. Please select a
connection from the list of available connections." is appearing. So I cant complete those steps.
Kindly further assist me to resolve the network sharing through wifi related problem.
Thanking you,
Prasenjit.

Prasenjit,

Thank you for the response.

Are you able to use this device on different computer? If yes follow the steps mentioned in my
previous post and check if you can create a WiFi hotspot.

On research, I found that Huawei E3131 is not compatible with Windows 8.1: See: Compatibility
Center

Initially you should be able to use the device on connect to the network, later on you can create a
hotspot. I would suggest you to install the data card software in compatibility mode and check if
that helps.

Refer this links to download the Client Software:

http://consumer.huawei.com/en/support/products/downloads/e3131en.htm

Follow the steps from this link to install the software in Compatibility mode:

Keep us posted.
Regards,
Anil
