Safety Measures

Carefully read the Operating Instructions prior to commissioning.

The mains connection is 230 V 50/60 Hz.

The coolant is either water or a water-glycol mix according to the Description.

Use only completely intact cooling hoses.

Operate the equipment only if the tank is filled to the proper level and the ball valve
on the pumps suction side is open. Otherwise the pump might suffer damage.

The water level must always be above the cooling fins. Otherwise the cooling output
is impaired.

Clean the pump filter according to the Maintenance Instructions. Otherwise the pump
may suffer damage.

Make sure the cooling hoses are pressure-proof and resistant to the coolant used.

Do not commission the equipment with hoses that are damaged or show leaks.

Perform maintenance routines only if the water cooling pump is isolated from the
power supply, i.e. first switch off the pump and then disconnect the electric connecting
cables, e.g. by unplugging the connectors.

Never open the water cooling pump during operation.

Description
The WL 5000 SE water cooling pump serves the cooling of X-ray tubes in a closed water
circuit.
The coolant can be either water or a water-glycol mixture.
Only GlycoShell must be used:
Article no. 9434660 = 1 liter

Do not mix GlycoShell with other coolant additives since this will cause coolant flocculation
and total failure of the circulation pump (if necessary empty the water cooling circuit and
refill it with a new mixture of GlycoShell and water).
Therefore, watch the cooling water color:

are:
Correct
Incorrect are all deviating colors:

Clear or dark blue-green

Red, brown, black e.g.

Down to a temperature of 25C we recommend a ratio of

two parts GlycoShell and three parts water.

(Filling quantity about 5.0 l + 0.075 l/m hose = 6.5 l for a 20 m hose length [10 m inlet + 10 m outlet])

The water circulates between the cooling unit and the X-ray tube. The water is recooled via
an air-cooled heat exchanger. A bypass valve limits the maximum pressure of the pump.
The maximum cooling output depends on the difference between the ambient temperature
and the water outlet temperature.
The power amounts to 5000 W with the temperature difference of 13,2 K between water
outlet and ambient temperature.
The cooling hoses with a 9 mm inside diameter are connected to the water cooling pump
via hose sleeves.
Water inlet and water outlet are marked by symbols:

Inlet: O ;

3

Putting into Operation

-

Set up the equipment such that air inlet and air outlet are not blocked. If blocked, the
cooling output is impaired.

Lufteintritt
Air Inlet

Luftaustritt
Air Outlet

Minimum 0,80 m

Minimum 0,80 m

Use the cable to establish the electric connection.

Connect the water hoses.

Open the filler stub. Fill the tank with drinking

water, about 5.0 l + 0.075 l/m hose. The water level
must be about 3 cm above the cooling fins.

The water level must always be above he cooling

fins. Otherwise the cooling output is impaired.

Filler stub

- Start the water circuit to vent trapped air.

- Check the water level. Add some more water if needed.
- Close the filler stub.
- The water cooling pump is ready for operation.

Maintenance
Regularly check the water level in the tank. Add drinking water if needed.
Clean the heat exchanger and the pump filter once a month*).
*)

4.1

Factors such as the formation of algae, heavy soiling or an unusually long operating cycle necessitate
shorter maintenance intervals.

Heat Exchanger
As a dirty heat exchanger will lower the cooling output, regular checks are the safest
method to find out whether the cooling fins need cleaning or not. If they do, proceed in
the following way:
-

Isolate the water cooling pump from the power supply.

See Safety Measures.

Dismount the siding and the cover.

Blow clean the cooling fins by applying compressed air. Be careful not to damage the
cooler.

Remount the siding and the cover.

4.2

Pump
If the equipment is operated with a dirty filter, pump and motor may suffer damage.
Clean the filter in the following way:
-

Isolate the water cooling pump from the power supply. See Safety Measures.

Dismount the siding.

Close the ball valve on the pump side.

Unscrew the filter cover (see Figure)

(24 mm key width).

Some water will escape. Use a suitable

container to catch it.
-

Remove the filter. Clean it or replace it

by a new filter.

Insert the filter. Screw the filter cover

on tight.

Open the ball valve. If the filter cover is untight, tighten it once more.

Do not put the equipment into operation when the ball valve is closed. Otherwise the
pump may suffer damage.

Remount the siding.

Establish the electric connection. Let the water cooling pump run for about 10 minutes
to vent trapped air and to simultaneously check the filter housing for leaks. In the event
of leaks, check the seat of the screw. Renew the seal, if needed.

Check the water level in the tank. Add some water, if needed.

Placing out of Operation

-

Isolate the water cooling pump from the

power supply. See Safety Measures.

Unplug the electric connectors.

Dismount the cooling hoses.

Unscrew the drain cap. Drain the cooling liquid.

Catch it in a suitable container.

Screw the drain cap back on again.
