better job."
So Satan and Jesus sat down at
the keyboards and typed away. They
moused. They did spreadsheets.
They wrote reports. They sent faxes.

They did every known job. But ten
minutes before their time was up,
lightning suddenly flashed across the

Satan stared at his blank screen
and screamed every curse word
known in the underworld. Jesus just
sighed. The electricity finally flickered
back on and each of them restarted

their computers.
Satan started searching
frantically, screaming "It's gone! It's all
gone! I lost everything when the
power went out!"
Meanwhile, Jesus quietly started
printing out all of his files from the past
two hours. Satan observed this and
became irate.
"Wait! He cheated, how did he do
it?"
God shrugged and said, "Jesus
saves."

In The Name of Allah-SWT the Most

Gracious, The Most Merciful
SECRETS OF REVELATION:
Prior to the revelation of Surah AtTaubah there were treaties of peace
between the Muslims and the infidels
of Makkah as well as other Arab tribes.
But each time it was the infidels who
would breach such treaties as soon as
they found the strength and the
opportunity to do so. The Treaty of
Hudaibiyah was signed in 6th Hijrah
for ten years. Its terms are well known.
The following year i.e. in 7th Hijrah the
Holy Prophet-SW along with his-SW
Companions-RAU performed for
Umrah. But a few months later, the
Makkans began to violate the terms of
this Treaty by providing military
assistance to Banu Bakr against Banu
Khazah, who were the allies of the
Muslims. This was an open breach of
the Treaty. Therefore, the Holy
Prophet-SW ordered preparations for
Jihad. The Makkans sent to Madinah
Abu Sufyan for renewal of the Treaty
as the battles of Badr, Uhad, Trench
had proved to them that the Muslims
were backed by none other than
Allaah-SWT . But inspite of Abu
Sufyans efforts the Treaty was not
renewed. The Holy Prophet-SW
marched with his army on the 10th of
Ramadhan 8 A.H, and conquered
Makkah.
Earlier in 8th Hijrah the Jews of
Madinah had also violated the Treaty
of Ahzab resulting in the Battle of
Hunain, the same year In Rajab 9th
A.H. the Battle of Tabuk took place and
eventually in Zilhajj 9th A.H. the
injunction to annul all the Treaties with
the Arab tribes was revealed.
Although continuous violation by the
infidels was also a reason for this
annulment, yet in reality, the Arabian
Peninsula was to be converted into an
Islamic State and the cradle of Islam.
This is because Islam is the Command
of Allaah-SWT and subservience is
against its nature. In fact, it has an
inherent tendency to predominate.

and treaties with all the non believers
were abolished, giving them the
choice to either accept Islam and join
hands in the establishment of the
Islamic State or to leave Makkah and
settle elsewhere. Failing to avail these
options, a war would be waged
against them. This message was
effectively communicated to all the
non believers, and they were given
ample respite to reflect over their
choices. On the occasion of Hajj,
Hadhrat Abu Bakr Siddiq-RAU and
Hadhrat Ali-RAU were deputed to
make an announcement so that the
message was conveyed to all the
tribes. Hadhrat 'Ali-RAU was also
deputed to Yemen with the same
assignment. It was to make sure that
no one was left uninformed. The point
to note is that even today, to make a
concerted effort for the establishment
of an Islamic State is an important
religious obligation. Social seclusion
in the name of worship with an
indifferent attitude towards the
country's political circumstances is not
correctn

The English Tafseer of Quran

Translation and Tafseer Surah Name: At-Taubah Meaning: The Repentance

Revealed at Madinah
t is also called Surah Bar'at

(freedom from obligation) as it
carries the injunctions that
absolved the believers of the
obligation to honour the Treaty they
had with idolaters. Moreover it is
called Taubah because it gives the
glad tidings of the acceptance to
penitence. In a way it is unique, as it
does not begin with Bismillah ar
Rahman ar Rahim (in the Name of
Allah-SWT , the Most Gracious, the
Most Merciful).Usually whenever
Aayaat from a Surah were revealed at
random, their correct place of
insertion was also conveyed to the
Holy Prophet-SW. He-SW would
instruct the Scribes to record these
accordingly. And whenever a new
Surah was revealed he-SW would
instruct them to begin it with Bismillah
ar Rahman ar Rahim. Surah Taubah is
amongst the last Madni Surahs
revealed. It was revealed without the
instructions to begin it with Bismillah.
The Holy Prophet-SW also did not
instruct the Scribes to write Bismillah,
hence it is without the usual
auspicious words.
When the task of compiling the
Quran was taken up in the era of
Hadhrat Uthman-RAU, the question
regarding the placement of this Surah
arose, for it was quite possible that it
may not have been an individual
Surah but a part of the preceding one.
Therefore, Hadhrat Uthman-RAU
instructed the compilers to place it
after Al-Anfal. This was the safest
thing to do for the Holy Prophet-SW
had not commanded to open it with
Bismillah nor had he-SW implied that it
was a part of Surah Al-Anfal, but had
got it recorded contiguous to Anfal.
The rules for reciting the Quran

indicate that anyone who while

reciting Surah Anfal moves on to
Surah Taubah need not recite
Bismillah. However, if the recitation is
initiated from this Surah or from any
part of it, Bismillah must be recited.
The other opening expressions for
Surah Taubah as stated in certain
manuscripts of the Quran, such as. A
auz Billah min nar wa min Ghadhab al
Jabbar etc. (I seek Allahs-SWT
Protection against fire and the fury of
the tyrants etc.) have no authentic
backing Hadhrat Ali-RAU reports that
since the Surah revealed the Divine
Command for the cancellation of the
Treaty with the infidels, it did not open
with Bismillah. This may have been a
subtle reason, which has not been
discretely told.

escape Allah-SWT, and that verily
Allaah-SWT is the humiliator of the
infidels.

And a proclamation is this from
Allaah-SWT and His-SWT
Messenger-SW to mankind on the day
of the greater Hajj that Allaah-SWT is
quit of the associators and so is HisSWT Messenger-SW Wherefore if
you repent, it shall be better for you,
but if you turn away, then know that
you cannot escape Allaah-SWT And
announce to those who disbelieve a
torment afflictive.

with whom you covenanted and they
have not failed you in anything, nor
have they backed up any one against
you; so fulfill to them their covenant till
their full period. Assuredly AllaahSWT loves those who fear Him-SWT .

District of New York and Glenn Sorge,
Acting Special Agent-in-Charge of the
New York Office of U.S. Immigration and

tthe arrest of Gnoleba Seri for immigration
fraud and aggravated identity theft. Seri
49 of Brooklyn was arrested by HSI in New
York, and was presented before the
Honorable James C. Francis IV. The New
York District of USCIS played a key role in
identifying this case of immigration fraud.

a licensed immigration attorney working in
New York, New York, and Brooklyn, New

In the Skelos case, a wiretap was

used in part on the phone of Skelos'
son, Adam, who was also convicted.
Tapes were played in court that
revealed remarkable exchanges
between the father and son over how
they planned to use the Long Island
Republican's office to benefit Adam's
private business dealings.
"We knew these were hard cases
to make and so we were always
looking for ways we could either get a
wiretap or wire people up, like
informants and others, and get people
on tape," Zabel said. "That's the best
evidence for a jury."
Bharara's tactics have shaken
Albany to its core: No longer can
private conversations in the Capitol's
dark halls be considered sacred.
And when lawmakers return next
month for a six-month session,
Bharara's shadow will hover over the
place.

For those who know Bharara, his
ascension is not a surprise: He's not
boisterous, yet confident and
attentive.
Zabel said he and Bharara would
exchange messages at 1 a.m. and
talk about cases late into the night. In
both the Silver and Skelos cases,
Bharara was often in court watching
his prosecutors present their
arguments.
"Some people call him fearless,
but it's not fearlessness born out of
reckless abandon," Dinh said. "It's a
fearlessness born out of confidence in
the process and confidence in the
work of his office."
Schumer called Bharara one of
the smartest people who ever worked
for him.
"He's cleaning up Albany and
that's a great thing, and I'm proud of
him," Schumer said during a recent
visit to Rochester.
Bharara is a Bruce Springsteen
superfan and likes to quote lines from
movies. One of his favorites is from
Mark Wahlberg, who played a police
sergeant in The Departed, saying:

"I'm the guy who does his job. You
must be the other guy."
Next steps
Bharara's convictions have led to
a new round of calls for ethics reform
at the Capitol, and Bharara himself
has joined the chorus of those
clamoring for change.
In the WNYC interview Dec. 14,
Bharara talked about the
entrenchment of long-serving
leaders, such as Silver who was the
speaker for more than 20 years. He
also mentioned the problem of
lawmakers having outside income
and the difficulty of trying to recoup
their pensions after they are
convicted; the pensions are protected
by the state Constitution.
"He's going to turn out to be a
major historical figure in New York,"
Blair Horner, the longtime legislative
director for the New York Public
Interest Research Group. "He may
end up single-handedly changing
Albany's political climate."
Whether Silver and Skelos, who
are planning to appeal, are the
capstone to Bharara's corruption
crusade or a precursor to more cases
remains to be seen.

When Bharara arrested Silver and
Skelos, the news conferences were
filled with charts that showed their
alleged wrongdoing. He ended the
Silver briefing with, "Stay tuned" - and

know what' in the hearts of all Albany
legislators," said Siena College poll

his record is phenomenal."
Bharara's office has only lost one
corruption case: former

was ultimately convicted in a separate
trial by federal prosecutors in
Brooklyn.
After Silver's arrest, Bharara railed
against Albany in a series of
interviews, calling it a "cauldron of
corruption." His actions raised
eyebrows as to whether Bharara was
on a publicity tour, and it soon drew a
rebuke from the judge in the Silver
case.

Cuomo was running for
attorney general in 2006, he
vowed to be the "Sheriff of State
Street," where the state Capitol is
located.
A decade later, there's a new
sheriff in town: U.S. Attorney Preet
Bharara.
In his six years in office, Bharara
has won the guilty verdicts of 27
public officials, and none were larger
than the convictions in the last month
of the former legislative leaders,
Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver
and Senate Leader Dean Skelos.
Already, Bharara has carved out a
public-corruption record that rivals
anyone who has held the
distinguished post for the Southern
District of New York, which covers
parts of New York City and the
Hudson Valley.
People close to him say Bharara
has a calm confidence that, over
de cades in p oli t ics and t he
courtroom, has driven him toward a
belief that New York is fertile ground
for public corruption.
He has wiretapped lawmakers
and their phones, turned their trusted
political allies into informants and
stepped in when state prosecutors
and oversight agencies didn't.
The goal, ultimately, is to change
government for the better, he and
those who've worked with him said.

"There's a lot of cases that you do,

but these two (Silver and Skelos) are
ones that hopefully will actually
change things in a broader way," said
Richard Zabel, Bharara's former
deputy until June when he left for the
private sector. "That's what Preet is
trying to do."
Bharara's convictions of Silver
and Skelos - two of the three most
powerful figures in New York - has led
to speculation about his own political
future and whether he is targeting the
state's other most powerful leader in
New York: Cuomo, the Democratic
governor.
Bharara's office is still believed to
be investigating Cuomo and his
staff's role in the demise of - and the
potential tampering with - a
corruption-busting panel that Cuomo
empaneled in 2013 but shuttered a
year later.
Bharara earlier this month didn't
let Cuomo off the hook when asked
directly whether Cuomo is next on his
list. He has criticized Cuomo's
decision to disband the Moreland
Commission, but Cuomo has
defended the move, saying the
commission's work has aided
prosecutors' probes and led to new
ethics reforms.
"I'm not going to talk about any
investigations that we have open. We
have lots of investigations open,"
Bharara said on WNYC radio. "I think

that people like to talk about what's
going to happen tomorrow."
But he added: "You shouldn't read
into anything I'm saying one way or
the other. And I know people like to do
that."
Capitol shadow
Bharara, 47, a naturalized U.S.
citizen who was born in India, has
loomed large over the Capitol since
he starting digging into corruption
soon after he took office in August
2009 - months after he was
nominated by President Obama.
A former assistant U.S. attorney in
the Southern District between 2000
and 2005, Bharara got his first true
taste of politics as chief counsel to
U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer, D-NY,
over the subsequent four years.
Friends said that experience
shaped Bharara's understanding of
the politics and levers of power in
New York.
"His prosecutorial background is
enhanced because he understands
the political process, and he's not
afraid of it," said Viet Dinh, a close
friend and prominent Washington,
D.C., lawyer.
With Schumer, Bharara also
appears to have picked up his former
boss' skills at trying to gain maximum
media impact.

and lastly, it is against your inner most
self (Jihad bil-Nafs). This last one is

Chaudhry spoke at the event of the
role of women in Islam. Islam argues
for equal rights amongst men and
women; both will get the same
punishment if they commit a crime,
and both have the same obligatory
duties. She spoke of the very
common misconception of
oppression of women, stating that has
nothing to do with Islam. Perhaps due
to poor socio-economic conditions or
va ri ou s cu lt u ra l va l ue s, t hi s
misconception is spread as a notion
of Islam and it couldn't be further from
it. Dr. Aliya Saeed, who is well-known
psychiatrist of the community, spoke
on the issue of "Violent Extremism in
United States". She stated there is no
such word in the dictionary as "Islamic
Terrorism" and urged the community
t o ri d t h i s w o r d f r o m t h e i r
vocabularies. Unfortunately after the

tragic events of 9/11, things changed

and Muslims are not trusted in some
institutions. In 2015 there were 355
mass shooting incidents in the U.S.
and only 3 of those people had a
Muslim background. The media
charged Muslims for those crimes as
acts of terrorism while claiming the
other individuals as simply criminals.

charged for crimes they did not
commit too often. September 11

Salam in Albany said American

of those who served in the US Army
and were designated the Purple
Heart, including Bombet Muhammad,
Peter Buckmens (Peter Salem),
Yusuf Bin Ali and so on.
Imam Ilmi further said according to
historians, 15000 Muslim American
soldiers died in World War II fighting
for America. Likewise some of these
same soldiers who bravely fought and
died in Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan
received the Presidential Purple
Heart or Bronze Star, including
General Homian Moazzam Khan,
Eman Abdul Rahman Taha and Karim
Rasheed Sultan. He also said
attacks were committed by people

who came from the outside and the
media portrayed it as American
Muslims committing the heinous
crime. If the American Muslim youth
who have done nothing wrong hears
all day through the media that he or
she is a terrorist, can you imagine
what their mental state will be? She
said parents of kids who may be

LBANY, NY - The Islamic

Center of Capital District New
York (ICCD) organized a
seminar to educate media, public
officials, interfaith officials, and others
on issues particularly important for
debate on Islamophobia. A number of
politicians and local officials spoke at
this event. All the speakers at the
event imparted words of wisdom to
the audience. Everyone left the event
with hearts full of optimism and hope
and certainly more knowledge than
they came with.

Dr. Liaqat Husain, conducted the
seminar, welcoming all speakers and

Senator Breslin stated the importance
of engaging with the community, our
neighbors at a time like this. He also
remarked on having personally
learned so much about the religion,
even as much to get graduate credit.
Assemblyman Phil Steck also
spoke at the event, he informed to the
community about the resolution in the
State Assembly against Islamophobia
and hopes to bring it to vote in the
near future. County Executive Dan
McCoy commented on the current
political situation in America urging
members of the community to "not
change your dress, your food, your
culture because this is the exact
beauty of America."
In her remarks, Mayor Sheehan

gave an example from the Disney
movie Beauty and the Beast. Without
drawing to any specific current
events, Sheehan spoke of a character
in the movie who wants power and
scares the village. She said Islam is
less mysterious, once you open the
door to everyone. Her closing
remarks were those of optimism and
hope that any monsters don't destroy
our hope.
