The Battle of Tagaunes. N.d. Military Heritage. Web. 5 Jan. 2016.
<http://www.militaryheritage.com/bolivar.htm>. This picture helped me to know what the
battles that Bolivar fought in looked like. They were very different from modern warfare,
with bayonets and muskets. There were no paved roads and cars to transport the soldiers
so they used horses and donkeys for transit.
Bolivar, Simon. A Letter by Simn Bolvar. Letter. 1815. TS. This letter allowed me to see
what Bolivar thought of a perfect government. I know now that he envisioned a
European-style government for his future land.
Portrait of Simon Bolivar (1783-1830) (Coloured Engraving). Bridgeman Images: The
Bridgeman Art Library. London: Bridgeman, 2014. Credo Reference. Web. 5 Jan. 2016. I
only had a vague understanding of what Bolivar looked like before viewing this picture,
and I now know what he looked like down to every detail. He was not a tall man, and he
always wore a red jacket with a high collar and riding boots.

helped me to understand a little more about Bolvar like how when Napoleon crowned his
brother the King of Spain, that was the last straw for him. Bolvar was a very tactical
man, and the article conveys that.

harsh climate of the Andes and how Bolivar survived this. Everything was covered in
snow and the wind had very heavy gusts, making the journey even more difficult.
Bolvar, Simn. The Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia. New York: Columbia University
Press, 2015. Research in Context. Web. 30 Nov. 2015. This website helped me understand
some of the things that were occurring while Bolivar was fighting for his freedom, like
Narino trying to fight the Spanish in Colombia or San Martin liberating Peru. I also
learned that
Bolvar. New York: Chelsea, 1985. Print. This book taught me what kind of man Bolivar was and
his early life. It also showed me how others influenced Bolivar and his successes.

11th Feb, 2013 This article taught me where Bolivar learned his military strategy
(Milicias de Veraguas). I also learned that he gave an address, the Angostura Address,
in which he gave his military propositions. I also did not know that in his final speech, he
said that, If my death contributes to... consolidation of the union, I shall be lowered in
peace into my grave.

Using this article I found out that Bolivar became Venezuelas first dictator in 1819. I
believed earlier that Gran Colombia crumbled after Bolivars death, but I know now that
it crumbled the year of him resigning, 1830.

2015<http://www.encyclopedia.com>. This article informed me that when the Republic
of Gran Colombia was proclaimed, the Royalist, or Spanish, army still retained
possession of most of the area. I also did not know that not only did Bolivar want a Latin
American Union, but he also wanted a Federation of the Andes that included all of the
newly freed countries.
Smith, Scott S. Simon Bolivar: Liberator of Latin America. Military History. Discriminating
General, n.d. Web. 30 Nov. 2015. <http://www.militaryheritage.com/bolivar.htm>. In this
biography of Simon Bolivar, it is stated that on his way to Spain, his ship stopped at Vera
Cruz where he complimented the American and French independence. He got some
raised eyebrows because it was very taboo to talk about an independence of a colony to a
government who owns colonies, especially because he lived in a colony owned by Spain.
Whitridge, Arnold. Simon Bolivar. New York: Random, 1954. Print. This book provided
knowledge about the life of Bolvar and his battles. It also contained great illustrations
about his battles and his travels.
