Commentary on 1 Peter

Part 1
Things we are going to discuss:

Why Peter wrote this Book

What is the major theme for this Book
Faith
Repentance
Sanctification
Election

Background & Summary of Chapter 1

Peter wrote this letter around AD 62 - AD 65 and this was a time in the Roman Empire where
Christians were persecuted by Nero. People were killed were some were set alight as human
torches as lights his garden. Quite different to what we perceive today as persecution and what
we experience.
These were the people Peter wrote to and encouraged. People who are persecuted and suffering
for Messiah. Peter also wants his readers to understand the GRACE of YHVH that forms the
main theme for this Letter.
This letter is very practical and Peter tells his readers how to live a good life as a follower of
Messiah. When someone becomes a Believer in Messiah, his or her life WILL change. From his
experience as a disciple of Y'shua he share his knowledge and faith regarding all the things he
saw Y'shua did, and all that Yshua taught, encouraging them to live like Y'shua.
Peter encourages them to stand strong even through these trials of persecution there their faith is
tested by fire as gold is purified (v7) (interesting word usage matching their persecution).
Structure of this book: (3 main areas)
Destiny of the Believer Ch 2:4 Living stones
Duty of the Believer Ch 3:5-11
Discipline of Believer Ch 3 - Ch 5

Main theme of this Book

The books theme is captured in Ch 5:12 : He tells us exactly what this Book is about, namely
GRACE.
Through Silvanus, our faithful brother (for so I regard him), I have written to you
briefly, exhorting and testifying that this is the true grace of God. Stand firm in it!

This book is cyclical

Peter explains one area of grace within another area and repeats this throughout the book, always
touching on the three main areas of grace - The he tells us of the Privilege of Grace Ch 1:10 2:10. Within this he also talks about the Responsibility of Grace Ch 1:13 as well as the
Consequence of Grace Ch 1:7 .
These three aspects of grace come forth throughout the book and he evident in Ch 1:3-9. Grace
is defined as:

(v3) To be born again as a living hope - P

(v4) Obtaining an imperishable inheritance - P
(v5) Protected by His power leading to salvation - P
(v6) Rejoicing during trials Pauls thorn in flesh grace is enough R & C
(v7) Purifying of your faith through persecution - C
(v8) Loving Him without seeing Him - R
(v9) Salvation of your souls - P

What does Grace mean?

YHVH explains it to us in the form of a picture. Grace is first found in
Scripture in Gen 6:8-9 where Noah found Grace in the eyes of YHVH
because he was perfect in his generations.
Grace is the Hebrew word "chen" Chet-Nun. Chet is the letter
they painted on the doorposts when they left Egypy and means Life
and Nun means Fruitfulness or fish. (Note: Fish is connected to
the NT referencing the Disciples that were fisherman)
Looking at the backdrop where this word was used first is in the context where man sinned so
grievously against YHVH to a point where He decided to destroy them. Grace was shown to
those who were "perfect" or not similar to those who provoked Him and Grace is the means to
protect those in the midst of His anger and judgement. Noah and his family grace so that they
may escape the wrath and judgement of YHVH.
Grace will not be required if there was no Judgement and no Judge. There are two names of God
that reveals two different attributes that are linked to the Father and the Son, Yshua.
Yahweh: YHVH is the name He gave Moses when Moses asked Him; who shall I
tell the people Who send me. This is also the Name that was used twice when Moses
asked God to show him His Glory. YHVH hid Moses in the Rock and walked passed him
and revealed 13 attributes of Himself to Moses, the majority of these has to do with love
and kindness. The Name of YHVH is His name that represents His Grace and is linked to
God the Father.
Elhohim : The second Name of God is the Name Elohim that has three distinct
meanings; it means Messenger, Judge and King. These attributes are linked to the Son of
God, Yshua Who was the Messenger and Message / Word Who became flesh and
2

dwelled among us during His First Coming. He Will reveal Himself as Judge when He
comes again at His Second Coming and will rule as the King of kings after the New
Heaven and Earth is established.
YHVH provided salvation to Noah in the form of a Boat when He
judged the world with water. Water in the Hebrew culture represents
hell where people are captured and tossed to a fro by the wind.
We as Believers in Messiah Y'shua are made "perfect" by His blood
and He represents the "boat" that is on top of this "judging" water to
keep those safe, those who are "in Him" during time of judgement.
Grace in other words is the privilege to be in the Boat, to be in
Messiah and to have heard and accepted the calling of God, which
gives us access to the boat (salvation). Y'shua means YHVH is my salvation, saved from the
wrath and judgement of God.
The sea also represents the nations and we as His Disciples, have to catch the "fish" (new
believers), and help them into the boat (Y'shua), out of the water (world) and possible
damnation. This is the second part of grace, after receiving grace you have to extend grace to
others in the form of "helping them into the Boat", telling them of the judgement and the Boat
and if they believe, helping them into the Boat. This is the symbolism of the disciples who were
fisherman, became "fishers of men" and the hope to the nations.

To receive Grace I have to be Perfect How do I get to be Perfect?

Grace is a gift that can only be received through repentance and the Blood of the Lamb, making
you "perfect" lining up with the story of Noah that was perfect. To become perfect in the eyes
of YHVH starts with repentance. This is what the message of the Gospel is: "Repent, for the
Kingdom of God is at hand..." Matt 3:2
Mark 1:15 The time has come, he said. The kingdom of God has come
near. Repent and Believe the good news!

Accepting Yshua as your Saviour goes hand in hand with Repentance. Repentance is
the act to leave the world (water / world), Faith or Belief in Y'shua gets you in the
boat. Faith is the knowledge of the truth and acting on it. Repentance is a 180-degree
turn and walking away from those things that you know that is wrong in your life
(part of the water), accepting the things of God (part of the boat).
How do I know what is right and what is wrong? The only way to know what is right
and what is wrong is to find out what YHVH said about it. It is not based on mans
opinion of what is wrong, but what the Word says. That is why we have to read and know the
Scripture which is the manual for Life.
We are taught today to only believe in Jesus, accepting His Blood in order to be saved, but it is
two-fold, consisting of two steps; Repentance and then Forgiveness. Forgiveness is because of
the Blood but needs to be received by preceded by Repentance.
The Blood is the payment for sin and Repentance allows you to forgiveness. If you do not
repent you cannot be forgiven. Faith means nothing without repentance.
3

The Opportunity is to be saved.

Faith is the knowledge of the Opportunity
Grace makes the Opportunity possible.
Repentance is acting on the opportunity - receiving it.
The Blood is the payment for the opportunity forgiveness (avoid judgement)
The Blood is sponsored by the Father that is an act of Grace.

Faith is the mechanism that you apply to knowledge you received. Wicked people also believe,
but what they believe is a lie and that lie produces fruit that looks like the one who invented the
lie, namely Satan. If we find the real Truth that comes from YHVH, then His word / seed will
grow in you and bear fruit that looks like Him. Faith is not the focus; the Truth is, believing the
right things more important than believing a lie and faith in a lie will not get you saved. It is very
important to put the right seed into your spirit (Truth) because
YHVH says in His word that His people perish because of a lack
of knowledge. Knowledge of what? Knowledge of the Truth!
Think of Salvation in this way; to be saved is to be with Him
where He is in Glory one day. To be with Him you have to
follow Him to end up at the same place He is at the end of your
journey like following the Shepherd leading His sheep to green
pastures. YHVH told Abraham that He is Abrahams
exceedingly Great Reward meaning that we will get HIM as a
result of being saved. What we read about the New Jerusalem
after His Second Coming is not as important as getting and being
with Him.
Gen 15:1 After these things, the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision,
saying, Fear not, Abram, I am thy buckler, and thine exceeding Great Reward.

Faith or to believe is the knowing who the Great Shepherd is, and Repentance is the process for
keeping you on track, to stay behind Him, correcting you and navigating you to move back on
track. Repentance automatically makes you Holy, set-apart - as a sheep from His flock only
listening to His Voice.
If you listen to His Voice (Word) and follow Him (obey his Word), you will end up in the same
place He will at the end of the day be saved. Verse 5 & 7 confirms this;
(5) who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be
revealed in the last time. -(7)so that the proof of your faith, being more precious
than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise
and glory and honor at the revelation of Yshua the Messiah;
Yshua means YHVH is my salvation and is simply translated as Salvation in some cases. His
revealed salvation is His Son Yshua.

Elected by the Father

1Pe_1:1-2 Peter writes to the Elect ones in four areas who are elected through the Blood of
Yshua, through sanctified spirits (with the help of His Spirit), unto obedience, and all of this
was known by the Father beforehand. We will look at what does it mean to:
be elected by God,
sanctification of the spirit
elected unto obedience
Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father.
Election is either to an office: like Saul who elected by God chosen to be king (1 Sam. 10:24)
Another example is where Yshua told His apostles, Have not I chosen you twelve? (John 6:70);
and to Israel YHVH chose them for a special purpose (Deut. 7:6), For thou art a holy people
unto the YHVH your Elohim; YHVH your Elohim has chosen you to be a special people unto
Himself above all people that are upon the face of the earth.
Election can also be explained according to the parable of the Talents (Matt 25:14-30). He gave
to each of his servants the following; 5 talents to the first, 2 talents to the second and 1 talent to
the third, each according to his ability. The talents represent truth and anointing (abilities) that
He entrusted to them that they must use to build His Kingdom. The servant with the one talent
has received enough to get himself into the Kingdom. The servants with the 2 and 5 received
more abilities and more are expected of them. These two servants are similar to the Elect, people
equipped with spiritual abilities to perform a specific task within the earth on behalf of the
Master they represent. If any of these servants hid their talents they would have received the
same reprimand form the Master when He returns again, hearing the words; You wicked
and slothful servant. This servant is then to be casted into the outer darkness. The more talents
you have received the more is expected of you.
This election is said to be according to the foreknowledge of God. Foreknowledge may be taken
in two ways:First, for mere foresight, or understanding, before it comes to pass. For example
a mathematician certainly foreknows that at such a time there will be an eclipse. YHVH created
us and has a plan for everyone and because of this we are elected / chose, actually created
for a special purpose that leads us along this path of sanctification and obedience unto Him. All
of this is known by YHVH because of His Plan but also because of His omnipotence and that He
exists outside of time, knowing all things. This sort of foreknowledge is in God, who at one
commanding view sees all things that ever were, or are, or ever will be.

Sanctification of spirit
"The" in the verse is in italics meaning it is not in the original text, this implies it is your
spirit/soul that is sanctified. Sanctification means to help us to stay "perfect" in the eyes of God
through the help of His Holy Spirit. 1 Pet 3:4 refers to your gentle spirit.

1Pe_1:2 - What does it mean to be sanctified?

Sanctified - Greek word - hag-ee-as-mos'. From G37; properly purification, that is,
(the state) purity; concretely (by Hebraism) a purifier: - holiness, sanctification.
Sanctification of spirit means that your spirit is to be made pure, holy or set apart - This is the
work of His Holy Spirit; the Spirit that help us to be holy and also known as the Spirit of
Truth; He helps us by revealing the truth to us within His Word. Joh_14:16-18, Joh_14:26
YHVH's Spirit is our Comforter, Spirit of Truth, teach you all things and bring His Word to your
remembrance.

Unto Obedience
Sanctified unto Obedience", what must we obey? Yshua is the Great Shepherd but He is also
the Word of God that became flesh and walked among us. John 1:14. He was also at the
beginning, at creation and through Him (Word) all things were created (spoken into existence).
So if we say we follow the Shepherd and listen to His voice, then we clearly get the picture that
we should listen and obey His Word. By doing that He is speaking into us and thus creating
us to become what He planned us to be. So we are in a constant process of being created if we
follow Messiah, created into His Likeness. Gen_1:26-27
He reveals His Word to us through the help of His Spirit so that we will obey His Word that
washes us clean every time we hear it and obey / apply it to our lives, sanctifying or cleansing
our souls.
Eph 5:26 Husbands, love your wives, just as Messiah also loved the church and gave
Himself up for her, 26so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing
of water with the Word,27that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory,
having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless.
This is what Holiness actually means; to hear His Word and apply His Word to your life so that
you, over time, will act and look like Him. God only created man in His image prior to Yshua,
we are currently being created into His Likeness though His Word and His Spirit's help. The key
to Holiness is obedience, if you obey, you will then "look like Him". Holiness or Obedience
will not save you, only faith in Messiah, but we as the elect, we that are saved are called unto
obedience and holiness to prepare for His coming so that we will be perfect just like Noah
when He comes again as the Judge.

Commentary on 1 Peter
Part 2
Things we are going to discuss:
What it means to be begotten
Different Baptisms
Where is Heaven?
$Qm: What does it mean to meditate on the Word?

What does it mean to be Begotten?

1Pe_1:3-5 Blessed be the God and Father of our Master Yshua the Messiah, which
according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again unto a lively hope by the
resurrection of Yshua the Messiah from the dead, 4 To an inheritance incorruptible,
and undefiled, and that fades not away, reserved in heaven for you, 5 Who are kept by
the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

Begotten, (anagennao) also translated as regenerated or to bear, comes from and related to
the word gennao - that simply means to bring forth or to be born. The context is the end
of time. Within this future time Peter reveals the inheritance that we will receive, all those who
are born again. This inheritance he further describes as incorruptible, undefiled and non-fading
this inheritance is referred to as being reserved in heaven.
Q What does it mean to be Born Again?
We are first going to look at what it means to be Born Again". General answer is that we are
born again though the Grace of YHVH, through the Blood of the Lamb and the Power of the
Spirit and is link to salvation.
The idea of the term born again is found alter in this chapter and talks about incorruptible
seed, the Word of God that we are born again by:
1 Peter 1:23 having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible,
through the Word of God which lives and abides forever,
The idea of the concept to be born again is first found where Yshua answered Nicodemus on
what is required to enter into the Kingdom. (John 3:1-3)
Yshua gives us the detail on how to be born again in v5 saying
unless man is born of water and of the Spirit he cannot
enter into the Kingdom of God.
Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and
preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believes AND is
baptized shall be saved; but he that believes shall not be damned.
We read in Heb 6:1-2 that the doctrine of baptism(s) is labelled as
one of the elementary teachings believers know. He talks about baptisms (plural) meaning that
there is more than one.

Q: How many baptisms are there?

There are three; water, Spirit & Fire. There is a distinction between baptism in Water and
baptism in Spirit. Scripture tells us that John came baptizing in water but that, There is one who
will come after me. . . He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit (Mk. 1:7-8; John. 1:33, Mt.
3:11 "and He shall baptize you in the Holy Spirit and in fire." ; John. 1:33).
The flesh and the spirit are two different properties, two different things and lines up with the
two different baptisms - one of water (physical) and the other of the Spirit (spiritual). Perfect
example of this is when Yshua got baptised in water and directly after that received the baptism
of the Spirit revealed through the symbol of a dove descending from heaven (Matt 3:13-17) We
also saw this symbol when a dove descended onto the Boat that Noah was in after the world was
immersed by water. (The Boat representing Yshua). This is linked to the First Coming. The
Second Coming has to do with Judgement where the Earth will be cleansed by Fire this is
connected to the third Baptism which will be by fire.
Why the three baptisms? Firstly because there are a two-part restoration that takes place to
restore man back to his Garden of Eden state. We are to be created in Gods Image (physical)
and Likeness (spiritual). When Yshua came the First Time He restored man back spiritually and
when He will come back again, He will restore man physically (glorified bodies). The two
baptisms represent these two restoration processes that will take place in your life to become
perfect and without blemish before YHVH.
The sequence of these baptisms is not set and the spiritual can be before the physical and vice
versa. One example where people received the physical baptism first is found in Acts:
Acts 2: 37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter
and the other apostles, "Brothers, what shall we do?" (38) Peter replied, "Repent and
be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your
sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
The baptism referred to here is immersion by water and the phrase receive the Holy Spirit is
the baptism by the Spirit.
Acts 8:36 As they travelled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch
said, "Look, here is water. Why shouldn't I be baptized?" And he gave orders to stop
the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip
baptized him.
This shows that the baptism is done as an immersion in water. Another example where people
received the spiritual baptism first as found in Acts:
Acts 10: 47-48 "Can anyone keep these people from being baptized with water?
They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have." (48) So he ordered that they
be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ.
It is essential that you receive both baptisms as found in John 3:5 which is the direct words of
Yshua and cannot be argued.
The Third Baptism: We will look a bit more in detail at the Baptism of Fire that is about
Testing & Judgement.

Symbolism of Baptism by Water Preparing the Bride

The water of immersion (mikvah) in Rabbinic literature was referred to as the womb of the
world, and as a convert came out of the water it was considered a new birth separating him from
8

is past life and background. The water baptism is the symbolism of you getting born again,
coming out of the water into the world as a new creation through the Power of the Spirit.
Rom 6:4-5 Therefore we were buried with Him by baptism into death, so that as
Messiah was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father; even so we also
should walk in newness of life. (5) For if we have been joined together in the likeness
of His death, we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection;
This is why sprinkling is not the right method to undergo a micvah (gathering place of water).
You are born into a new nature through the immersion into the Word and into the Sprit.
To be Baptised is instructed by Yshua in Matt 19:
Matt 28:19-20 Jesus commanded the disciple to go and make disciples . . . , baptizing
them . . ., and teaching them to obey everything I commanded you.
To know what this baptism symbolise we have to know what the symbol of water is. Water is
used in Scripture as a symbol for life and the Word of YHVH as confirming 1 Pet 1:23 where it
mentions that we are born again from the Word of God.
Eph 5:26-27 Husbands, love your wives, just as Messiah also loved the church and gave
Himself up for her, 26so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing
of water with the Word, 27that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory,
having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless.
When you are baptised in water, you are performing a symbolic act that represents something
deeper; you submerse yourself in the water representing the Word of God and this implies that
you commit yourself to submerge and saturate yourself with His Word that leads to life and
godliness. Baptism is a physical symbol of studying and learning about God from His physical
Word.
Baptism in the Spirit is a spiritual baptism where you receive His Spirit to indwell you as well as
receiving one or more Gifts of the Spirit that equips you to serve the Body of Messiah. These
Baptisms are normally happens close to each other or even at the save event of the Water
Baptism where hands are laid on people and they receive the Baptism in the Spirit.
Us in Him - Water Baptism:

It is a physical statement before witnesses that you start a new phase in your life.
It is a sign of entering into His Covenant and that you are now part of the House of Israel
and that you are grafted into Israel. You are also now part of His Body.
It is a sign that you have His Torah/Law written in your heart.
It is a sign that you have a new Master and Teacher and you are immersed into His
Name, Yshua, as prove of it. Acts 2:38
It is a sign of repentance and that you have committed your life and have made a new
start.
It is the step to become born again and is obligated for salvation.
It is a sign that you have put on Yshua and that you commit to follow Him as your
Shepherd and to listen to His Voice (Word).
It is a symbol of immersing yourself into His Word and to certainly search so that you
will know and follow the Truth and not man.
It is the beginning of your personal relationship with YHVH moving from the Laver into
the Holy Place as symbolised by the Tabernacle pattern.
You commit to follow Him unto death.
Your Mikvah is the time to receive the baptism of the Spirit through laying on of hands
and prayer.
It is a sign that you have received His New Life.

Symbolism of Baptism by the Sprit Equipping the Bride

Him In Us - Baptism by the Spirit:
The Water Baptism is a sign from us to show YHVH that we commit
to Him, receiving the Gift of His Spirit is a sign from YHVH that He
received you as His child. It is through the Baptism of the Spirit that e
are baptised or generated into One Body.
1Co 12:12-13 For as the body is one and has many members,
and all the members of that one body, being many, are one
body; so also is Messiah. (13) For also by one Spirit we are
all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether
bond or free, even all were made to drink into one Spirit. (See
also Acts 19:6)
Gifts of the Spirit:

Draw near to God and He will draw near to you (James 4:8) We draw near to God in the

10

Baptism by Fire
The Third Baptism has to do with Judgement, where we will be
baptised with fire and only the works that He commanded us to
do will remain and we will receive a reward accordingly.
1 Cor 3:12 Now if any man builds on the foundation
with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay,
straw, (13) each man's work will become evident; for
the day will show it because it is to be revealed with
fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of each
man's work.
1 Cor 3:15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself
shall be saved; yet so as by fire.
The Third Baptism has to do with Judgement at the end time linking with - 1 Pet 3:5 unto
salvationto be revealed in the last time The first two baptisms are for preparing you and the
last baptism is about testing you. These who did not have the first two, or have not prepared for
His Coming, will receive only the Baptism of Fire which will end up in the Lake of Fire. (Rev
20:14).

Where do we go when we die?

1Pe_1:3-5 Blessed be the God and Father of our Master Yshua the
Messiah, which according to His abundant mercy has begotten us
again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Yshua the Messiah
from the dead, 4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled,
and that fades not away, reserved in heaven for you, 5 Who are
kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be
revealed in the last time.

Because we are born again we will be resurrected by the same Power Yshua was resurrected
from death and this is the incorruptible inheritance reserved in heaven. (Rom_1:4). The
translation says "reserved in heaven for you" implying that you will go to heaven when you die
and will live in heaven for eternity with YHVH. This is contradicting Revelation 21:1-2 talks
about a New Heaven and a New Earth and with the New Jerusalem that descends to earth and
YHVH will live with us on earth forever.
Heaven : - ouranos - oo-ran-os'
Perhaps from the same as G3735 (through the idea of elevation); the sky; by
extension heaven (as the abode of God); by implication happiness, power, eternity;
specifically the Gospel(Christianity)
"Reserved" can also be more accurately translated as "guarded" and Heaven better translated as
abode of God, elevation or "eternity". That means that YHVH, Who is eternal One (not bound
to time) will be guarding our inheritance until we meet Him at the end of time. It does not
specify where we will live forever and people misinterpret the concept of Heaven as
somewhere out there and this is not accurate.
Q Where do we go when we die prior to the Second Coming?

11

The Realm of Death Sheol, Hades and the World of the dead
There is only one place in the Scripture that describes the realm of death or holding place of
the dead and that is found in Luke 16:19-31 where Yshua explained about Lazarus and the rich
man who both died and what happened them after they died.
More detail on this topic is found in the Apocrypha book of Enoch explaining the realm of death
in more detail as well as where the souls go when they die. Some people believe that Enoch is
not a valid book and cannot be referenced but the Book of Enoch is quoted in the New
Testament in Jude:
Jude 1:14-15 And Enoch, the seventh from Adam, also prophesied to these, saying,
Behold, YHVH came with myriads of His saints, (15) to do judgment against all, and to
rebuke all the ungodly of them concerning all their ungodly works which they ungodly
did, and concerning all the hard things ungodly sinners spoke against Him.
This was a well-known manuscript in the NT Times and I believe Paul and the Apostles were
well familiar with these writings. Enoch chapter 22 gives us some more detail on the realm of
death and what happens with people who die.
Enoch 22:1-13 (1) And thence I went to another place, and the mountain [and] of hard rock. (2)
And there was in it four hollow places, deep and wide and very smooth. How smooth are the
hollow places and deep and dark to look at. (3) Then Raphael answered, one of the Holy angels
who was with me, and said unto me: 'These hollow places have been created for this very
purpose, that the spirits of the souls of the dead should (4) assemble therein, yea that all the
souls of the children of men should assemble here. And these places have been made to
receive them till the day of their judgement and till their appointed period, till the great
judgement (comes) upon them. (5) ' I saw (the spirit of) a dead man making their complaints,
and his voice went forth to heaven and made suit. And I asked Raphael the angels who was with
me, and I said unto him: (6) 'This spirit which complain, whose is it, whose voice goes forth and
complain to heaven ?' (7) And he answered me saying: 'This is the spirit which went forth from
Abel, whom his brother Cain slew, and he complains against him till his seed is destroyed
from the face of the earth, and his seed is annihilated from amongst the seed of men.' (8)
Then I asked regarding it, and regarding all the hollow places: 'Why is one separated from
the other?' (9) And he answered me and said unto me: 'These three have been made that the
spirits of the dead might be separated. And such a division has been make (for) the spirits of
the righteous, in which there is the bright spring of water. (10) And such has been made for
sinners when they die and are buried in the earth and judgement has not been executed on
them in their lifetime. (11) Here their spirits shall be set apart in this great pain till the great
day of judgement and punishment and torment of those who curse for ever and retribution for
their spirits. (12) There He shall bind them for ever. And such a division has been made for
the spirits of those who make their complaints, who make disclosures concerning their
destruction, when they were slain in the days of the sinners. (13) Such has been made for the
spirits of men who were not righteous but sinners, who were complete in transgression, and of
the transgressors they shall be companions: but their spirits shall not be slain in the day of
judgement nor shall they be raised from thence.'
We see four places described here:
Valley Gate - place for the people whos blood was shed,
Fountain Gate - for the righteous,
Dung Gate - for the unrighteous and

12

The Pit / Abyss - for the unrighteous who were complete in transgression as well as
fallen angels.
(The names of these places are from the names of the Gates of Jerusalem that seems appropriate
my interpretation)
The first place is where the people go whose blood was shed and they cry out to Heaven until
their blood is avenged. This is why there exist bloodline curded today, the curses youre
forefathers can come upon you if there were spilling of blood involved. We read in Enoch;'This
spirit which complain, whose is it, whose voice goes forth and complain to heaven ?' he
complains against him till his seed is destroyed from the face of the earth, and his seed is
annihilated from amongst the seed of men.
The second place has a spring of water and this is where the righteous dead goes as described in
the story of Lazarus and the rich man in Luke. This is where there is water where Lazarus could
dip his finger in as requested by the rich man who was in the place for the unrighteous, the place
of punishment. We read in Enoch; the spirits of the righteous, in which there is the bright
spring of water
The third place is where the unrighteous dead goes until the day of their judgment; And such
has been made for sinners when they die and are buried in the earth and judgement has not
been executed on them in their lifetime
The fourth place is like an abyss, where all the most evil spirits go to be bound forever They will
not receive judgment nor be raised in the second resurrection. We read in Enoch; Such has
been made for the spirits of men who were not righteous but sinners, who were complete in
transgression , and of the transgressors they shall be companions: but their spirits shall not
be slain in the day of judgement nor shall they be raised from thence..
These four smooth deep hollow places are separated from one another to keep the souls in their
place until judgment. We read the same in Luke 16:26; there is a great chasm fixed between
you and us; so that they desiring to pass from here to you cannot, nor can they pass over to us
from there.
All the spirits / souls in these holding places except one will be released during two events:
The Righteous dead from the Fountain Gate as well Valley Gate will be released at the First
Resurrection prior to the 1000 years peace. (Rev 20:4-6)
The Unrighteous dead will be released form the Dung Gate as well as the Valley Gate at the
Second Resurrection after the 1000 years where Satan is released and the final Battle of Gog and
Magog takes place. After their Judgement they will be cast in the Lake of Fire. (Rev 20:7-15)

Commentary on 1 Peter
Part 3
Things we are going to discuss:
What is the difference between Trails,
Temptations & Tribulations
What is the true meaning of Faith
$Qm: Is it a sin to fear?

What is the difference between Trials, Temptations and

Tribulations?
We have looked at the main theme of this Book [Grace] and the reason it was written, namely to
encourage persecuted Believers while they have undergone trials. Peter underlines the Hope that
exists for those who keep their faith strong through salvation obtaining their eternal inheritance.
1 Pet 1:6-9 In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have
had to suffer grief in all kinds of temptations. (7) These have come so that the
proven genuineness of your faithof greater worth than gold, which perishes even
though refined by firemay result in praise, glory and honour when Jesus Christ is
revealed.
We know that these people were persecuted and that is called trials and tribulations. Peter wrote
that these exist to test or proof the genuineness of their faith, but what is the difference between
Temptations, Trails and Tribulations? YHVH does not tempt us and there is a difference
between Temptations, Trials and Tribulations.
Temptations
Temptation is the Greek word peirasmos that means; to put to proof, experiment,
provocation, provoke to anger, disciplined, by implication of adversity.
Temptations are from Satan where he provokes you with implication to adversity (by the
adversary or enemy). It is Satan that tempts you not God as confirmed in James.
James 1:13-14 Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am being tempted by God"; for
God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone. But each one
is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust.
Temptation is evil and YHVH allows Satan to tempt provoke believers. How is it possible that
Satan can tempt us? We allow Satan to tempt us through open doors that we create though sin
and lustfulness. A good example of this is found in the book of Job where he was overcome by
the thing he feared most. This opened a door for Satan to tempt him.
14

Job 3:25 For the thing which I fear come upon me, And that which I am afraid of
come unto me.
Job 2:1-2 Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves
before YHVH, and Satan also came among them to present himself before
YHVH. YHVH said to Satan, "Where have you come from?" Then Satan answered
YHVH and said, "From roaming about on the earth and walking around on it." YHVH
said to Satan, "Have you considered My servant Job? For there is no one like him on the
earth, a blameless and upright man fearing God and turning away from evil. And he
still holds fast his integrity, although you incited Me against him to ruin him without
cause."
When Satan was allowed to consider Job he went out to see what he can find against him and
use that as an entry point into his life to destroy him. Another passage in the Scripture that
supports this is in the story of Baalam and Balak. Balaam, a prophet, was summoned by King
Balak of the Moabites to curse the Israelites as Moses was leading them toward Canaan. Balak
promised to pay Balaam handsomely for bringing evil upon the Hebrews, whom he feared.
[Num 22-24, 31; Jude 1:11; 2 Peter 2:15]. Every time he wanted to curse Israel a blessing came
out of his mouth. The only way he could curse Israel was for them to mix with the daughters of
Moab and sin this would cause the hand of YHVH to lift and allow Satan to get hold of
YHVHs people brining a curse upon them. [2 Peter 2:15, ; Jude 1:11, Revelation 2:14 ]
We are normally tempted (led) in these three areas:
Lust of the flesh - internally
Covetousness, desire what you see - external
Fear instead of faith fear of future and fear of man
We are to be led by the Spirit to be called sons and daughters of YHVH, instead we are led by
our greed and covetousness lusts and fears.
Rom 8:14 For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.
Gal 5:16-18 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the
flesh.17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is
contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do
whatever[a] you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
Trials
Trial is the Greek word dokimion that means; testing by implication of
trustworthiness.
Trials are from YHVH and is part of your training It is like an obstacle course that He set up
for His children to become fit and toned soldiers ready to fight the good fight of faith.
The outcome of these trials is a stronger character and robust unwavering faith. Trials exist
because of YHVHs Plan for our lives, predestined for us to walk in.

15

Eph 2:10 For we are His workmanship, created in Messiah Yshua for good works,
which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.
James 1:12 Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has
stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who
love him.
These trials are TESTS that see if you are trustworthy and will stand for God till the end.
Tribulations
Tribulations are similar to Trials, the main reason for tribulations is because of your faith and the
fact that you follow YHVH. This puts you directly in conflict with the enemy and he will do
anything in his power to destroy you. Tribulations are normally form an external force that
works through people. ISIS is a very good example of this that we see to day where people are
persecuted and killed for their faith.
Rom 12:12 Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.
The Book of Revelation speaks about the Great Tribulation that is coming and that will
surpasses all pervious tribulations that ever was or that will ever exist. This Tribulation is to
come and will climax in two battles; the battle of Armageddon prior to the 1000 years and the
battle of Gog and Magog after the 1000 years of peace. These battles will finally settle the long
standing conflict between YHVH and His adversary Satan and through these events YHVH will
take back the Kingdom form Satan and establish His dwelling with man on the earth. If we are
still alive during these times we will experience the tribulation that will come upon the earth.

What is the true meaning of Faith?

1 Pet 1:8-9 Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not
see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious
joy, for you are receiving the end of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
The END of your faith? Does this imply that your faith will end? Of course not! It should
actually be translated as the GOAL of your faith that is salvation of your souls. Faith is
something that we do or practice in order to reach our end goal that is Yshua (Salvation).
Remember that Salvation is a Person.
Q - What does faith really mean?
General Faith: We have different perceptions of what faith means; it can be used to express
your belief system (religion) for example Christian faith or Muslim faith. It is defines what you
believe regarding anything; you believe in ghosts, that the earth is round etc.
Faith is a loose concept that is used by a lot of people within different religious or even within
a non-religious context. Definition of faith secular and spiritual:
1. strong or unshakeable belief in something, esp without proof or evidence
2. complete confidence or trust in a person, remedy, etc
3. any set of firmly held principles or beliefs
16

4.
5.
6.
7.

allegiance or loyalty, as to a person or cause

a specific system of religious beliefs: the Jewish faith
(Christianity) trust in God and in his actions and promises
a conviction of the truth of certain doctrines of religion, esp when this is not based on
reason

Every person has the ability to believe; it is built into us as humans making faith the mechanism
to believe whatever we perceive as true. YHVH gave each one of us the ability to believe, what
differentiate and define Faith is based on WHAT YOU BELIEVE. Faith is fed by information
that might be trivial or it might be of significance, it might be physical or spiritual, it might be
true or false. This faith then becomes part of you and forms who you are and how you react and
interact with other people.
Present Faith vs. Future Faith Seen vs. Unseen
Heb 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, and the evidence of
things not seen.
Faith that brings Hope: Here it talks about faith in the Future or faith that produces hope of
something that has not happened yet, things in the FUTURE. This faith is the result of YHVHs
promises in His Word, everything He promised to His people when they follow Him and whom
He revealed His promises to. These promises are found written in His Word and is part of the
benefits we receive as Children of God.
Q What are the promises of YHVH?
Examples of these promises:

We get YHVH He is our reward relationship with Him

Receiving His Spirit - Ezekiel 36:26-27
Freedom from bondage and sin and the old nature of sin John 8:36, Isaiah 61:1,
Freedom from death and the death penalty - Romans 8:1-2
Salvation and eternal life (our inheritance) living with Him forever
Place to live mansion in the New Jerusalem
Renewed bodies
Answered prayers
Health healing to the sick
Provision Matt 6:21

Faith of the Unseen: It also talks about faith of invisible things that exist, but are not visible to
man, things in the NOW. This faith is based on information about the Spiritual realm that exists
that has an impact on the physical realm. Spiritual things are higher that physical things and
happens first in the spiritual realm before it becomes evident in the physical realm.
This faith gives you the ability to believe that God exist and Who He is. We are build up in this
faith by reading Gods Word.
The phrase Evidence of things not seen is the faith we have that YHVH exist and then He will
show or manifest Himself to you in a tangible way. You start off with believing that God exist,
then you start to know more about Him and as you grown in your relationship with Him you
learn more about Who He is and he starts to manifest Himself to you in a tangible way. The final
17

stage of this relationship is to see Him as He is when you meet Him at the end of time. This will
fulfil the intent of this verse by having evidence of the unseen God.
Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to Elohim
must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
What kind of faith will please God? Believing in the Unseen: We must firstly believe in YHVH,
that He exists (ridiculous concept to all atheists). Believing He is the only true God: that He is
the one and only true God (ridiculous concept to all other non-Christian faiths). Acting on our
faith about Him, seeking Him; He is our exceedingly great reward and if we believe that He is
we must act on that faith and seek Him till we find Him.
Faith as a Force: Faith is a spiritual force or energy that we as
believers use to connect to the Spiritual realm through prayer. This is
the way we communicate to God regarding His promises so that they
become true in our lives. Sometimes it takes a while for the Spiritual
promise to manifest in the Physical. One example of this is where
Daniel prayed and it took 21 days for his prayer to be answered. When
we make a prayer request we sometimes wonder if our prayers to God
have been heard. Yet when we engage in daily prayer God hears and
his hand is moving in the unseen, in the spiritual realm before it manifests in the
physical. [Daniel 10:1-21]. The reason for this is that it took YHVHs army of angels fighting
for 21 days on his behalf in order for his prayer to be answered. The evidence of the unseen
manifested after 21 days after it was resolved in the spiritual. This is what it means to STAND
IN FAITH waiting for an answer form YHVH.
Matt 21:22 And Jesus answered and said to them, "Truly I say to you, if you have
faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if
you say to this mountain, 'Be taken up and cast into the sea,' it will happen. "And all
things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive."
Faith is only the beginning and has a GOAL as 1 Pet 1:9 describes. Faith is the mechanism that
makes these things a reality to those who choose to believe it, taking it form the unseen spiritual
or from the hope prophesied to something tangible. We all know the saying seeing is
believing, but this is not what real faith is, faith is about BELEIVING THEN SEEING.
Spiritual Faith is based on Truth
The word for faith in Hebrew is amunah that means: literally firmness;
figuratively security; moral fidelity: - faith (-ful, -ly, -ness, [man]), set office,
stability, steady, truly, truth, verily.
Amunah comes from the root word aman which is a verb that means: to
build up or support; to foster as a parent or nurse; figuratively to render (or
be) firm or faithful, to trust or believe, to be permanent or quiet; morally to
be true or certain; once, hence assurance, believe, bring up, establish, + fail,
be faithful (of long continuance, stedfast, sure, surely, trusty, verified),
assurance, nursing father, nursing mother, pillars supporting a door entrance., put trust in,
turn to the right.
18

Without Truth, faith has no substance. The definition of Truth is; to reveal things as they are and
the highest form of reality. Truth is like switching on a light and can then see things as they
really are. Without light we will speculate what is in the room and what they look like this is
faith, but having the light or Truth we know and have certainty of what we believed at first.
Faith is the first step in finding the Truth. Believing in the Unseen God, seeking Him is the first
step finding Him through a relationship with Him (His Word and Spirit) adds light on the
Subject and we start to see Him as He really is and understand His Word the way He really
meant it.
Q Where do we find Truth or Light?
Rev 21:23 And the city has no need of the sun or of the moon to shine on it, for the
glory of God has illumined it, and its lamp is the Lamb.
1 John 1:5 This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that
God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.
Psa 119:105 Your Word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.
Firstly we see that YHVH is the origin of all Light and Truth through His Son Yshua. We also
seen in John 1:15 that Yshua is the Word of YHVH that became alive and walked among us
He is the Living Word or the Example of how His Word is to be lived. He is called the Light by
the fact that He is REVEALING this to us.
Another sourse of Light is the written Word of YHVH or Words of YHVH that was
REVEALED to man through the Prophets and the power of His Spirit. These reveal the Truth
about YHVH and His things regarding His Kingdom and are very relevant to us as believers.

Faith vs. Works Greek vs. Hebrew Thinking Faith vs. Faithfulness
Q What is the difference between Faith and Faithfulness?
The Scripture is written in Hebrew and Aramaic by Hebrews in a Hebrew Culture and
translated to Greek and later English to a Western culture audience.
This in itself add a lot of dynamics regarding what we believe and how we express our
faith. Within the topic of Faith, most Believers think of Faith and Works as opposites
and that works is opposing to true faith.
Hebrew is an action language. In the Hebrew language, nouns, just like any other noun, describe
things but in Hebrew all nouns have root words that relates to an action or a verb.
The Greek Western mind separates faith from an action in the sense of having faith and works as
opposites. According to most believers you cannot have faith if you have works and vice versa,
making Faith ONLY a noun. We all know the general faith statement saved by faith and not by
works, this is formed due to our doctrinal influences that stems from the Reformer, Martin
Luther and later on Calvin. Is this interpretation accurate? What does the Word say?
19

Eph 2:8 For by GRACE you are saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is
the gift of Elohim,
People think that we are saved by faith only, faith is the mechanism or vehicle that gives you
access to Grace that saves you. Grace is the ACTION from the JUDGE providing MERCY to
the guilty. Grace, is a free gift from YHVH that is received through FAITH. , to those who have
faith in Him and seek Him diligently. We cannot be saved without Grace or without Faith.
2Ti 1:9 who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our
works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given us in Messiah
Yshua before the eternal times.
Yes we are not saved by our own hand through works, but James add another dimension to faith
and works which makes them inseparable, even contradicting what Paul said.
Jas 2:20 But will you know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
Now I am confused, Paul said faith and grace saves you, not works and James said your faith
must have works for it to have substance.
Eph 2:10 For we are His workmanship, created in Messiah Yshua for good works,
which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.
We are YHVHs project or workmanship, created for good works to walk in. This is
connected to the second meaning of Faith, namely Faithfulness.
Q What does Faith have to do with Worship?
Work and worship is the same thing. The word for worship is avodah comes from the root
word avad that means; servant, to work, to create, to make and worshipers. Your every-day
work is worship unto YHVH if it is in line with the guidelines in Scripture. So if you say that
works are bad, then you imply that worshipping YHVH is bad. Everything we do should be
seen as worship unto Him and it is these works that James was referring to. In Hebrew they call
these GOOD WORKS Mitsvots that honour and worship YHVH and these works are planned
and predestined by YHVH for us to walk in.
This is what makes our faith ALIVE and is the connection to the principle of being
FAITHFULL. We are believing with faithful Abraham the Father of our Faith.
Gal 3:9 So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful
Abraham. ... Therefore, those who believe are blessed together with Abraham, the one
who believed.
Abrahams faith was connected to works that proved it to be alive and an act of worship
through obedience. This act of faith proved him to be faithful to YHVH making him the father
and example of what faith really is about.

Things we are going to discuss:
The value and meaning of Prophecy
Holiness
What does Fear, Love and Holiness have in common
$Qm: What is the main purpose of Prophecy? - Is love and Fear opposites?

The value and meaning of Prophecy.

Prophecy is one of the things that prove to us that the Bible is true that things written
thousands of years ago actually came true and that we, standing in a time after their fulfilment,
can see the truth spoken and the truth revealed.
The other amazing thing about Prophecy is that it revealed the Messiah to us. Without Prophecy,
no one would know what to look for to identify the Messiah.
There are three types of prophecy:
1. Prophetic Words Written & Verbal: A Word received from YHVH through a
prophet regarding and event, group or person, captured in Scripture, written as words for
the reader to understand. This happens today as well when someone with a Prophetic Gift
verbalise a prophetic word - this word is not captured in Scripture.
2. Prophetic Pictures: Stories captured in the Scripture that were written History regarding
the lives of people who acted and played out a prophetic picture of things to come.
An example of this is the life of Joseph prophesying the Messiahs rejection, death and
resurrection as well as salvation of YHVH people through him.
3. Prophetic Cycles: These are prophetic cycles embedded within the Hebrew Culture as
commanded by YHVH for His people to observe on a yearly basis. The 7 Festivals are an
example of this on how the first 3 pointed to the Messiah, the 4th pointed to His Word
and His Spirits connection and the last three points to the Second coming of the
Messiah. This is revealing the Timeline of the Appointments YHVH has with His people

21

that has manifested in the First Coming of Messiah and will manifest again in the Second
Coming of Messiah.
Peter is referring to Prophetic Words that were spoken and written in the Scripture as inspired by
the same Spirit that we can receive today.
1 Pet 1:10-16 Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace
that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care, 11 trying to
find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing
when he predicted the sufferings of the Messiah and the glories that would
follow. 12 It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, when
they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who have
preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to
look into these things. 13 Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your
hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming.
Peter confirmed their faith by referencing the Scriptures that captured the words of the Prophets
concerning their Salvation, the hope, the suffering of Messiah and the glories that will follow.
All these things are captured in the events and message of the preaching of the Gospel inspired
by the same Holy Spirit that inspired the Prophets.
Prophecies referenced here regarding the suffering of Messiah:
Yshua was betrayed by a friend - Psalm 41:9:
Even my close friend, whom I trusted, he who shared my bread, has lifted up his heel against
me.
The betrayal of Yshua for 30 pieces of silver - Zechariah 11:12-13:
12 I told them, "If you think it best, give me my pay; but if not, keep it." So they paid me thirty
pieces of silver. 13 And the LORD said to me, "Throw it to the potter"-the handsome price at
which they priced me! So I took the thirty pieces of silver and threw them into the house of the
LORD to the potter.
Yshua was spat upon and beaten - Isaiah 50:6:
I offered my back to those who beat me, my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard; I did not
hide my face from mocking and spitting.
Yshua would be silent before his accusers - Isaiah 53:7:
He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the
slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth.
God's servant would die for our sins - Isaiah 53:4-6:
4 Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by
God, smitten by him, and afflicted. 5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed
for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are
healed. 6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the
LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

22

The crucifixion of Yshua - Zechariah 12:10:

"And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and
supplication. They will look on me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as
one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son.
All these prophecies was fulfilled at the First Coming of Messiah but it was also relevant for the
Audience Peter wrote this letter to because of the fact that they were persecuted and suffered the
same as their Master when He died and suffered for us.
Peter is underlining two main messages here;
Peter is using these references to encourage the persecuted Believers to show them that
they are honoured to go through the same suffering as their Master and Saviour.
The Prophets were inspired by the Spirit of Messiah regarding the Messiah and that same
Spirit now is available to the believers, especially those who preach the Gospel and the
Messiah.
The Spirit of Messiah has the following main functions:
This gives us the main function of the Spirit of Messiah; to REVEAL the Messiah to us
through His Word and by Divine Revelation.
The second function of the Spirit of Messiah is to give us a new nature, the NATURE OF
MESSIAH so that we can become like Him.
The third function of the Spirit of Messiah is to facilitate His Gifts to us so that we can
represent the fullness of His Body within the Assembly ACTING LIKE Him and doing
the SAME WORK as Him.

Holiness, Fear and Love Connection.

1 Pet 1:14-21 As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when
you lived in ignorance. 15 But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you
do;16 for it is written: Be holy, because I am holy.17 Since you call on a Father who
judges each persons work impartially, live out your time as foreigners here in
reverent fear. 18 For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or
gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from
your ancestors, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or
defect. 20 He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last
times for your sake. 21 Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the
dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God.
Q - Where is this quoted from? Lev_19:2, Lev_11:44, Rom_11:16 (Tree), Eph_5:27 (Bride)
Holiness is about not defiling yourself to keep yourself set-apart based on YHVHs standards.
Holiness is more about NOT DOING than DOING. Eph 5:27 talks about washing and
cleansing that implies GETTING RID OF THINGS in your life. We all had a past where we
were ignorant of the things of YHVH, being led by our evil desires namely fear, covetousness
and fleshly desires as we discussed in the previous section. With our NEW NATURE we are to
be LED BY THE SPIRIT of YHVH unto Holiness as mentioned by Peter in the passage above.
23

Q Will the Spirit lead you contrary to what is written in His Word?
We are called by a HOLY God and He calls us unto Holiness. If man is holy, he will be fit or set
apart for the purpose YHVH created him for. Holiness is a call on your life to set yourself apart
and make yourself available for YHVHs purpose. Without Holiness you will become useless.
Holiness is not a salvation issue YHVH can still save someone who declined the call but
have faith in Him.

YHVH s Holiness
We are going to look at Holiness from YHVHs point of view because He said He is Holy and
we need to see what that looks like. The Holiness of YHVH can be described in terms of the
following:
His Purity & Moral Perfection
His Name & Character
His Presence
YHVH is Pure & Morally Perfect

Pureness is described in Scripture in Exodus 25:11 where they used pure gold to cover the Ark
of the Covenant.
Pure is the Hebrew word tahor that means: a primitive root; properly, to be
bright; i.e. (by implication) to be pure (physical sound, clear, unadulterated;
Levitically, uncontaminated; morally, innocent or holy):--be (make, make self,
pronounce) clean, cleanse (self), purge, purify(-ier, self).

Gold is the colour of Divinity, of a Supreme Being and has great Value. Everything is the
Tabernacle was covered with gold to make it pure enough for YHVHs Presence and Holiness.
Everything from the earth that is contaminated by death had to be covered to be brought into
the Presence of YHVH. That is why we are covered by the Blood of the Lamb to make us able
to enter the Holy Presence of YHVH.
Q What does the Tabernacle represent? Body of Messiah we are covered with Gold /
Blood, also of great value through which He bought us.
YHVH is pure and morally perfect and separated from all beings and all
creatures that are not morally perfect. YHVH cannot tolerate sin; Sin
cannot exist in His Presence. Adam and Eve only had to sin once to be
cast out of the presence of YHVH.
Isa 6:3 And one cried to another, and said, Holy, Holy, Holy, is YHVH of Hosts; the whole
earth full of His glory.
Isaiah said that YHVH is Holy, repeated three times, and this emphasizes the importance and
understanding of His Holiness. You will not find anywhere in Scripture that YHVH is love, love
love, or grace, grace grace, or that He is nice, nice nice. No, it is only His Holiness that is
expressed in this way and this means that His Holiness is His greatest attribute. He is love and
He is gracious, but not to the extent of, or in close comparison of His Holiness.
24

Isa 57:15-17 For so says the high and lofty One who inhabits eternity; whose Name is
Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, even with the contrite and humble spirit, to
revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.
Holy means to be Set-Apart and YHVHs Holiness means that He is the High and Lofty One
Who inhabits eternity, far removed from man because of mans iniquity and He hides Himself
from every man who follows iniquity.
YHVH will reveal Himself to those who humble themselves and pursue holiness and become
like He is. YHVH is dangerous and you need to be transformed in order to stand in His presence
and live.
Deu 4:24 For YHVH your Elohim is a consuming fire, a jealous l.
YHVH is a Consuming Fire and that Fire is fuelled by His Holiness. When Holy people will
stand before Him they will experience His greatness and Holiness but when worldly people
stand before Him one day, they will experience His Holiness as a consuming Fire that leads to
judgement as we have seen in the previous study on Baptism by Fire.
Aarons two sons brought strange fire before YHVH while serving in the
Tabernacle and this cost them their lives. YHVH is Holy and there is a certain
protocol in approaching Him. If you do not follow His prescribed way of
approaching Him will cause His fire to consume you because everything that is
not Holy and perfect and pure can come close to Him. YHVH is like light and
sin and wickedness is like darkness. Darkness cannot exist in light and if you
have any darkness in you, you will be consumed with it. When YHVH comes
to the earth after the Second Coming of Yshua, then there will be the final
Judgment where His fire will come down and consume the wicked. That fire is
His Holiness that will consume every bit of darkness and impurity because it cannot exist where
He is.
The Holiness of YHVH transcends any thought or idea of that we have of Holiness. It
transcends any aspect of what anyone might reflect. What does transcends mean? Transcends
mean to fly higher and it has no mate and no running partner or any competition or anybody that
can come close in comparison to Him. There is nothing that goes higher than the Holiness of
YHVH and no one Holy like YHVH.
Q - Does this mean that YHVH is too Holy for us and that we will never be able to stand in His
presence?
No, Firstly we are covered by His Blood like everything that is connected with death is covered
by Gold. Secondly He instructed us to be Holy for He is Holy and because we honour and fear
Him we will try to live a life that is Holy because we bear His Name and through respect and
love we will try to comply with His standard through the grace and help of His Set Apart Spirit.
Rom 15:16 that I should be the minister of Yshua the Messiah to the nations, ministering
the gospel of Elohim, so that the offering up of the nations might be acceptable, being
sanctified by the Holy Spirit.
25

YHVH is much more Holy than we are or that we can dream or think. We need to realise this
and the only way to do this is to renew our minds with His Word that can help us to become
closer to the mark, being sanctified. For us to stand before His Presence something had to
change, either He become like us or we become like Him. He decided that we have to change
in order to be in His presence and live. It is not the other way round as some believe.
The Name of YHVH is Holy

His Name YHVH is the Name He gave to Moses when the people asked Who He is. It means,
I Am that I Am. He compares Himself with himself because there is no other that can be
compared to Him. He is at such a high standard and stature. His Name is Holy and Awesome. Q
- Do you know what awesome means?
Psa 111:9 He sent redemption to His people; He has commanded His
covenant forever; HOLY and AWESOME is His Name.
Awesome is the Hebrew word yare that means - to strike with fear
and reverence; to influence by fear, terror or respect; as, His majesty
awed them into silence.

The fear of YHVH is in His Name and His Name causes the universe to
tremble with fear. It is not only a reverence but also a TERRIBLE FEAR
and TERROR that will strike you if you are in the presence of YHVH, a fear
that will make your knees nock and your teeth clatter.
Do not connect anything that is not from Him to His Name or use His Name and have a
characteristic that is not in line with His Character because you will take His Name in vain.
Vain is the Hebrew word shav that means - the sense of desolating; evil (as destructive),
literally (ruin) or morally (especially guile); figuratively idolatry (as false, subjectively),
uselessness (as deceptive, objectively; also adverbially in vain): - false (-ly), lie, lying,
vain, vanity.

We as Believers in Messiah are representatives of Him and we carry His Name. Holiness means
to conduct yourself in such a way that is worthy not damaging His reputation of
Character. You cannot act like the people in this world and say that you are a follower of Jesus
and believe in God. You should not connect anything that is evil, perverse, destructive,
immoral, useless or false to His Name.
His Word describes His Character and His Word and His Ways should also be treated with the
same respect as you would His Name. If you proclaim His Name, you should see to it that you
are worthy of connecting yourself to His Name so that you will not profane it by calling yourself
a follower of Him but living a life that is unholy and profane.
If you say that you follow Him, you should be as He is, Holy and set apart from this world and
the lusts of the flesh. If you live your life without repentance and change, you will profane His
Name.
Your Holiness is Personal and makes you Available nothing to do with Salvation

26

Holiness is the word "kadosh" and means to be "set apart" for a specific purpose. That means
that YHVH created something for one purpose only and if it is use for another, then it is no
longer holy but "tame" or defiled.
My Holiness cannot look like your Holiness because my Holiness is a reflection of my
Relationship with YHVH. You can explain this with the help of the Tabernacle pattern that is a
picture of how we approach YHVH.
Outer Court: The Outer Court is the barrier between Believers and the world and you have to
come into the Tabernacle through the main Gate, which is Yshua. He is the only Way and the
First Step to enter YHVHs presence.
Brazen Altar: This is the first Object that you will see when you enter and this represents the
Blood Sacrifice that is needed as part of your cleaning process so that you may enter into the
presence of the Father. The Blood of Yshua is the only Blood that is of value that can pay for
your entry.
Laver: Another step in your cleaning process, the washing of the water of the Word that allows
you a few steps closer to the presence of the Father. This also represents the Born Again step
where we are born from an incorruptible seed, which is His Word and physically expressed by
our commitment and symbol of the Water Baptism. The Priests could not enter the Holy Place
unless they washed themselves and you cannot enter the Kingdom of YHVH unless you are born
of the water and the Spirit.
Holy Place: This is the Place that represents your Personal Relationship with YHVH. In here
you will find His Spirit (Menorah), His Word (Showbread 2 stacks: OT, NT) and your Prayers
(Golden Altar of incense). This is where you will have communion with the Word (Jesus) and
the Spirit.
Holy of Holies: This is the Place that represents the Presence of the Father and you can only
enter into His Holy Presence when you have a relationship with His Son, Yshua through His
Word and His Spirit. True Worshippers worship the Father in Spirit and the Truth.
Your Holiness is defined by the Place you are in regarding your relationship with Him and you
cannot impose your Holiness Standards onto someone that is still inside the Outer Court who
just came to faith. We should not judge one another regarding our point of view but rather
encourage each other to walk the path of Holiness to come closer to the Father.

Love vs. Fear Connection

1 Pet 1:17-18 If you address as Father the One who impartially judges according to
each one's work, conduct yourselves in fear during the time of your stay on
earth; 18knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or
gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers,
We have discussed the concept of Judgement last time when we looked at the Baptism of Fire
where you will be saved but your works will be judged and burnt away if not founded on your
relationship with YHVH.

27

Peter is talking about us conducting ourselves in FEAR while we walk the earth. We know that
God is Love and there should be a balance between Love and Fear and that is what we will now
look at in depth. To explain this we will have a look at Love first and then Fear:
Love is the Hebrew word ahav and is first used in Scripture in Gen 22:1 where YHVH told
Abraham to sacrifice His son Isaac whom he loved.
QWhat motivated Abraham to proceed with this request to sacrifice his son?
Abraham believed that YHVH will raise Isaac from the dead and that is captured in Hebr 11.
Hebr 11:17-19 By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He
who had embraced the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son, 18 even
though God had said to him, It is through Isaac that your offspring will be
reckoned.[a] 19 Abraham reasoned that God could even raise the dead, and so in a
manner of speaking he did receive Isaac back from death.
Q How old was Isaac when he was bound to be sacrificed?
Isaac was about 32-34 years of age, the same age as when Yshua was sacrificed and that means
that Isaac gave himself to be sacrificed, just as Yshua did. A perfect prophetic picture.
Abraham loved YHVH more than he loved his son Isaac and that love motivated him to
overcome his FEAR for losing his son, transforming the FEAR into FAITH motivated by
LOVE.
We read in I John 4 - PERFECT LOVE drives out FEAR but it is difficult to understand the
relationship between love and fear.
1 John 4:1-18 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God.
Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love
does not know God, because God is love. 9 This is how God showed his love among us:
He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.10 This is
love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning
sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love
one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us
and his love is made complete in us.
13 This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his

Spirit. 14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the
Saviour of the world. 15 If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives
in them and they in God. 16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.

God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. 17 This is how love is
made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In
this world we are like Jesus. 18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out
fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in
love.
Fear is the enemy of faith and can totally destroy it, but how can love cast out fear.
28

Q What do we need to love for what do we need not to fear?

We see we need to love YHVH and love our brother. Firstly from verse 17 we see that we need
not fear the day of Judgement but if you read the whole context of this passage it talks about
false prophets (v1), the Antichrist (v3), people in the world called the world (v4), spirit of error
(v6).
As you can see there is only one thing of YHVH that we should not fear and that is His
Judgement. Then there are 2 spiritual entities; Antichrist and the spirit of error and 2 physical
entities, False Prophets and people in the world listed that we should not fear. We can class
this as FEAR of the ENEMY (spiritual) and FEAR of MAN (physical).
Q Is it good to fear YHVH?
Fear and Reverence can only exist if you know YHVH and understand His awesome greatness
and Holiness that surpasses our understanding.
Hebrew FEAR yare - The Hebrew verb yare can mean to fear, to respect, to reverence
and the Hebrew noun usually refers to the fear of YHVH and is viewed as a positive quality.
This fear acknowledges YHVHs good intentions (Ex. 20:20). This fear is produced by Gods
Word (Ps. 119:38; Prov. 2:5) and makes a person receptive to wisdom and knowledge (Prov.
1:7; 9:10)
Ex 20:20 Moses said to the people, "Do not be afraid; for God has come in order to test
you, and in order that the fear of Him may remain with you, so that you may not
sin."
Ps 119:38 Establish Your Word to Your servant, As that which produces reverence
(fear) for You.
Prov 2:4-6 If you seek her (wisdom) as silver And search for her as for hidden
treasures; 5 Then you will discern the fear of YHVH And discover the knowledge of
God. 6 For YHVH gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.
Pro 1:7 The fear of YHVH is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise
wisdom and instruction.
Greek FEAR - phobos The Greek noun can mean reverential fear of YHVH, not a mere
fear of His power and righteous retribution, but a wholesome dread of displeasing Him
Fear and respect for YHVH is motivated by the knowledge of His Holiness and Greatness. If
you do not have a grasp on YHVHs Holiness, you will not respect and fear Him.
There exist a healthy relationship between Holiness, Love and Fear. Holiness is the knowledge
of Who YHVH really is and from that will come a Reverence or Fear that translates into Love
for Him and your willingness to please Him.
This proves that there is nothing wrong with the concept of Fear or Love, what makes it wrong
is what you Fear and what you Love. If you love the world more than you love YHVH then that
is wrong. If you fear man more than you fear YHVH, that makes it wrong. His Word
encourages us not to fear man but to fear Him instead, implying that we should follow and
obey Him instead of man.
Proverbs 29:25 The fear of man brings a snare, But he who trusts in the LORD will
be exalted.

29

1 Sam 15:24 Then Saul said to Samuel, "I have sinned; I have indeed transgressed the
command of the LORD and your words, because I feared the people and listened to
their voice.
Isaiah 51:12 "I, even I, am He who comforts you Who are you that you are afraid
of man who dies and of the son of man who is made like grass,
Our Love for YHVH is reflected in our willingness to obey His every Word:
John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments(directions).
John 14:23 Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep
(obey) My Word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make
Our abode with him.
1John 5:3 "For this is the love of Elohim, that we keep his commandments: and
his commandments are not grievous".
2 John 1:6 And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the
commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.
We can all agree that we should obey YHVHs Commandments as an act and motive of love.
You expect your children to obey you as a parent and this proves that they love and respect you
if they do obey with an attitude of love. We are not talking about the Law, the Justice system
that you need to comply with if you do not want to be judged to eternal punishment. No we are
talking about the Loving God and loving your nature as headed up in the Greatest
Commandment that forms the headings for the two sections of the Ten Commandments.
Matthew 22:36-40 Master, which is the great commandment in the law? 37 Jesus
said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy
soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the
second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40 On these two
commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
The first 5 Commandments is about loving YHVH and the second set of 5 is about loving your
neighbour.
Q Does God obey all His Commandments?
Q Did Jesus obey all the Commandments when HE walked the earth?
YHVHs Commandments have different categories that is applicable to different people or
groups which have different functions within His Kingdom. His Commandments capture His
Character and His Nature and if you could comply with the 100% that means that you will be
exactly like Him.
People tend to throw out the baby with the bathwater thinking that all the Commandments are
now null and void replaced by love.
YHVH still have a Kingdom with a Government with standards by which He will Judge the
World if they do not exist then Judgement will not be executed because YHVHs Justice
system will be annulled and everybody will be saved regardless of what they have done.
The key is that we are IN HIM through His indwelling Spirit and have received His Nature so
that we will walk in His Ways and obey His Commandments naturally without effort. The key is
to do the Commandments form the inside out inspired by Love and the Spirit, not externally
and mechanically out of you own strength.

Things we are going to discuss in this study:

Redemption & the Kingdom of God
Vain Conversations & Tradition of the Fathers (men)
Corruptible vs. Incorruptible Seed
$Qm: What are we Redeemed from? What are people compared to in the Bible?
1 Pet 1:1825 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible
things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from
your fathers; 19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without
blemish and without spot: 20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of
the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, 21 Who by Him do believe in
God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave Him glory; that your faith and hope
might be in God. 22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through
the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a
pure heart fervently: 23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of
incorruptible, by the Word of God, which lives and abides for ever. 24 For all flesh
is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the
flower thereof falls away: 25 But the Word of the Lord endures for ever. And this is
the Word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

Redemption & the Kingdom of God

Redemption is the Hebrew word pidyome that means a ransom first found in Scripture in Ex
21 in the section describing the judgements regarding Bondservants, servants, family and people
killed by animals. The word ransom is found in Ex 21:30 describing the regulations regarding
the owner of an ox that killed someone and has killed someone before without the owner doing
anything about it. The owner as well as the ox shall be put to death except if a ransom is paid to
redeem and save his life.
Q - What is all of this about?
Ex 21 is the first section after YHVH gave the 10 Commandments to Israel in Ex 20 and this is
deemed to be the second most important instructions that YHVH gave Moses to help him
Govern the people who just came out of Egypt. Most of the Governments around the World used
these Commandments to form the basis of their Government system and laws in order to govern
their people. YHVH instructed us to submit under the Government of the land because they are
institutions set up by Him. 1 Pet 2:13-17
Q - What is required to establish a Kingdom? A King - Land - People within that land Government with laws to rule the people.
Take note that these Instructions form part of the Justice System
based on YHVHs Commandments and the consequences of
breaking these Commandments leads to Judgement because of the
Justice System. Judgement exists when man is compared to
YHVHs Standard and Character, falling short this shortfall or
gap is called sin or missing the mark. YHVHs Government
System has to be in place in order for Him to Judge, and this
revolved around the Gospel and the news of His coming Kingdom.
32

Q - Who will be the Judge?

When Yshua comes again, He will overthrow the kingdoms and systems of the World and
establish YHVHs Kingdom on the Earth with His Government and Justice System, as well as
becoming the King that will rule over all kingdoms and kings. This is the reason why
Judgement only happens after His Second Coming.
Isaiah 9:6 For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; and the
government will rest on His shoulders; and His Name will be called Wonderful
Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.
A son will be given to us implies our Saviors deity. He existed before His birth as the second
Person of the Godhead: Although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with
God,but emptied Himself, taking the form of a BOND-SERVANT, and being made in the
likeness of men (Phil 2:6-7). He came as the Son of GodGod in human fleshto conquer sin
and death as God, not only that, but to establish the Government of YHVH on the earth.
This verse looks to a time in the future when Messiah will reign over a literal, earthly,
geopolitical Kingdom that encompasses all the kingdoms and governments of the world
(cf. Daniel 2:44; Zec 14:9).
The government will rest on His shoulders affirms His Authority and
Kingship.
Government is the word misrah and comes from the root word
sarah (same as Abrahams wifes new name) that means The
Power of a Prince
This word is first found in Gen 31:28 where Jacob has prevailed against
YHVH and his name was changes to Israel. This implies that this
Government upon His (Messiahs) shoulders, will be over the nation of
Israel (Righteous people of Elohim) and Yshua will have the Power of a Prince to rule over
them as the Prince of Peace. Peace in a Land can only exist if the Government in that
Land is Righteous. In that day, the Government of the whole world will rest on His shoulders.
But until that time, His kingdom is in an invisible form in our midst (cf. Luke 17:20-21). Within
this Kingdom Government, Yshua has the Authority as Judge and King, to judge the
whole world and everybody who ever lived.
Back to the story of the OX: The OX of Ex 21:30 is first found in Ex 32:3-6 in the story and
context of Jacobs Trouble (prophetically points to the coming Great Tribulation - the end time
Judgement), where Esau came with 400 men to meet his brother Jacob after 20 years.
This happens after Jacob became Israel, after he contended with YHVH. 400 is
the number of the Hebrew letter Tav and looks like a cross. When Yshua
died on the Tav/Cross (He is the Aleph and the Tav the Co-Creator and the
Solution to save His Creation), He was executed on our behalf as a Ransom
and His Blood became the money with great value to set up our future
Redemption, He carried the Government on His Shoulders when He
carried the Cross, being judged by the Father for our sin according to YHVHs Justice
System. This execution or judgment was under the Government of YHVH paying for all sin, of
all people who ever existed and those who were still to be born. Our Salvation and Redemption
was His INITIATION in public, as the Judge receiving the Government of YHVH on His
Shoulders, being appointed as the new Judge and King.
Revelation 17:14, 16 These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall
overcome them: for He is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with
33

him are called, and chosen, and faithful.16 And He has on his vesture and on His thigh a
Name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.
This Judgment is not only to judge and remove evil from His Kingdom, but it also
implies to reign and to govern over all the nations after His Second Coming To
judge not only means to execute judgement on someone who broke a law, it also
means to rule as we read in the Book of Judges where YHVH chose Judge to rule
the people prior to appointing Kings to rule that people.
The Judgment of the nations will happen in conjunction with the 1000 year reign of Yshua the
Messiah also known as the Millennium. Our Redemption becomes relevant when He
establishes His physical Kingdom and judge the world because you are redeemed and saved
from the wroth of YHVH through the Judge Yshua.
2 Cor 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that
each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has
done, whether good or bad.
1 John 2:1 My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin.
And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the
righteous;
For Redemption to exist, you need a King who makes a law, someone who broke the law, a
Judge to execute judgement on the lawbreakers, an Advocate who defends the guilty, someone
who pays the penalty on behalf of the guilty. Yshua is all of the above, He is the King, the
Judge, the Advocate, the Lamb who paid the penalty (became the Guilty).
Q - How is Redemption, Forgiveness and Covering related to each other?
Redemption is the Greek word: apolutrsis and it means: ransom in full, that is,
(figuratively) riddance, or (specifically) Christian salvation: - deliverance, redemption.
The basic understanding of the Blood that was poured out when Messiah died is that His blood
paid for our sins and that this ransom enables us to live, just like the owner of the Ox that
killed innocent people.
Covered is the Greek word: epikalupt and it means: to conceal, that is, (figuratively)
forgive: - cover.
To be COVERED has a Two-Fold meaning: It removes the death penalty and
allows us access to the Fathers presence. As we have seen in the previous study
that Gold is used to cover the objects that are dead or connected to death (result
of sin) before it could brought into the Holy presence of YHVH. In the same way,
we who are connected to sin and death needs to be COVERED (forgiven) by
something as precious as gold, that is the Blood of Messiah, so that we can come
boldly into the Presence of the Father. ( Heb 10:19, Eph 3:12) Not only this, but it
is an act of redemption paying the ransom because of the death penalty that hangs over every
human because of sin. Forgiveness is the Covering that we receive by the Blood of Messiah.
Eph 1:7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins,
according to the riches of His grace,
Rom 5:8-11 But Elohim proves His own love for us, in that while we were still
sinners, Messiah died for us. (9) Much more then, having now been declared right
by His blood, we shall be saved from WRATH through Him. (10) For if, being
enemies, we were restored to favour with Elohim through the death of His Son,
much more, having been restored to favour, we shall be saved by His life. (11) And not
34

only this, but we also exult in Elohim through our Master Yshua the Messiah, through
whom we have now received the atonement (reconciliation or restoration).
YHVH is Angry - Judgement exists because of the ENMITY (opposition / hostility) from
YHVHs side towards man because of sin - the consequence of this is Judgement and DEATH.
Yes, YHVH is angry and disappointed that He ever made man and wanted to wipe them all out
in the time of Moses and start over again but Moses intervened for humanity. This anger is
postponed and will be released at the time of Jacobs Trouble during the Great Tribulation
followed by the FINAL JUDGEMENT.
Good News - Gospel: The Gospel or Good News is captured in the meaning of the word
ATOMENENT:
Atonement is the Greek word: katallag and it means: exchange (figuratively
adjustment), that is, restoration to (the divine) favour: - atonement, reconciliation (-ing).
ATONEMENT is the process where an EXCHANGE takes place - exchange from Life to Death
and Death to Life. He gave us His Life and received our DEATH and we have the option to
accept that LIFE in exchange for our Death. Not everybody will accept this offer and will face
the wrath of YHVH.

Vein Conversation through the Traditions of the Fathers

1 Pet 1:18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible
things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from
your fathers;
Q What does Conversation mean in this context?
According to this passage, the word conversation means much more than merely words being
spoken from one person to another, rather, it is the way in which a person lives his life. This
phrase is also found in:
2 Cor 1:12 For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity
and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had
our conversation (behaviour) in the world, and more abundantly toward you.
Your Conversations is more than words, it is your actions and how you conduct yourself. We
all know the saying; Actions speak louder than words. Peter calls this VAIN
CONVERSATIONS implying that these actions that comes from the traditions and teachings of
the fathers cause you to be vain.
Q - What does vanity mean from a Biblical perspective?
We read in a modern Dictionary; vanity is the act of being excessively proud of or concerned
about one's own appearance, qualities, etc. The word VANITY comes from the word VEIN
that is first found in Scripture in Ex 20 that we all know as the Ten Commandments.

So, vanity from a Biblical perspective in context to what Peter is saying, means to behave in a
way (have conversations) that is taught by the Spiritual leaders (traditions of the Fathers) that
will cause you to do things that is either USELESS or FALSE when compared to what YHVH
asks us to do according to the Scripture / His Word.
35

Vain Conversation is the real definition of Legalism; Obeying man instead of YHVH following the teachings and traditions of the Fathers (men), not following the Word and Spirit of
YHVH.
Matt 15:9 BUT IN VAIN DO THEY WORSHIP ME, TEACHING AS DOCTRINES THE
PRECEPTS OF MEN.'"
Colossians 2:22 These rules (elementary principles of this world), which have to
do with things that are all destined to perish with use, are based on merely human
commands and teachings.
Isaiah 29:13 The Lord says: "These people come near to me with their mouth and
honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is
based on merely human rules they have been taught.
Q Name a few elementary human rules / principles.
Any action that is dreamt up by a man in order to worship God. There are many Jewish
traditions that Peter is referring to here and we can think of a few that exist in church today that
are similar in function and nature.
Jewish Example: Washing

the order of service is absolutely unbendable. Pray before we eat and blessing the food. The
fact that there are over 30 000 different denominations - that means different traditions
and teachings. Is YHVH happy with the Church today? No Read Revelation Chapter 3
especially regarding the last Church of Laodicea.
Q - How to get free form these Vein Conversation / acts of false worship?
Do not accept anything when someone teach you something TEST EVERYTHING AGAINST
THE WORD.
1 John 4:1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether
they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world
Acts 17:11 Now these (Bereans) were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica,
for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to
see whether these things were so.
James 3:1 Let not many of you become teachers, my brethren, knowing that as
such we will incur a stricter judgment
This was not only a problem in Yshuas time, but also a problem in the time of Isaiah the
prophet where Israel followed man made traditions instead of following what YHVH instructed.
Putting it all together
We have looked at Redemption and the story of the OX. We have also looked at the Vain
Traditions of the fathers and the basis of all religion that is not form YHVH. Now we will look
form a bigger perspective in relation to what Peter was saying in 1 Pet 1:18-25.
36

The OX represents STRENGTH and godlikeness and is

the symbol for the first letter of the Hebrew Alphabet
the Aleph. This is the reason why many cultures use the
ox, cow or calf as their symbol representing their gods.
The vein conversations according to the traditions of the fathers are the traditions we have today
that gives every different denomination or faith movement our identity but form YHVHs point
of view have we created golden calves (oxen) that are dangerous.
The Ox that killed the second time is an example of what happens if you break all the
commandments. In Ex 20 we find the Ten Commandments with two main headings, Loving
YHVH (first 5) and loving your neighbour (second 5). This is also one of Yshuas teachings:
Matt 22:40 On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets
Allowing your ox to run free after killing your neighbour is a violation of the intent of the 1st
set of Commandments regarding loving YHVH, not respecting His wishes to stone the ox after
the event, but rather keep your valuable ox. This causes all your neighbours to be at risk and it is
just a manner of time before you break the intent of the 2nd set of Commandments regarding
loving your neighbour.
Religion and traditions of man is similar in nature and cause us to break the intent
of these two sets of Commandments. Religion and traditions of man are dangerous
and will expose your fellow believers to the consequences of your selfish acts
(vein conversation), just like a wild OX running free, ready to kill and destroy
believers. It will not kill you spiritually and not allow you to be free to do what
the Word asks of you. This OX represents Religion and is found in the time of
Moses when Aaron build a Golden Calf to please man. He constructed the Golden
Calf (OX) and told the people, this is YHVH, lets have a feast and celebrate.
The Golden Calf was an image that originated in Egypt, that they sanctified through calling
it YHVH. Is their actions backed up in the Scripture or is this contrary with His Word? YHVH
explicitly instructed them in the 2nd Commandment NOT to create IMAGES. (Ex 20:4)
Q - What did YHVH do with the Golden Calf?
He instructed that the OX to be stoned and in Moses time instructed the Calf to be grind to
dust and give it to the people to drink in their water. (Ex 32:20) YHVH also instructed the
owner of the OX to be killed just as Moses instructed the people to be killed who led the false
worship ceremony.
Q What does the golden dust represent?
The Gold dust represents the essence of what YHVHs Word is that man took and transformed
into an image of who they think He is and what He is all about. This dust is the building
blocks that are good for us to take in in its smallest purest form without man changing or altering
it via doctrines, denominations and interpretations.
Psalm 19:10 The judgments of the LORD are true; they are righteous altogether.
They are more desirable than gold, yes, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than
honey and the drippings of the honeycomb

37

Psalm 12:6 And the Words of the LORD are flawless, like silver purified in a
crucible, like gold refined seven times.

Corruptible and Incorruptible Seed

1 Pet 1:2125 Who by Him do believe in God, that raised Him up from the dead, and
gave Him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God. 22 Seeing you have
purified your souls in Obeying the Truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of
the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: 23 Being born
again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the Word of God, which
lives and abides for ever. 24 For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the
flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower thereof falls away: 25 But the Word
of the Lord endures for ever. And this is the Word which by the gospel is preached
unto you.
Peter explains to the assemblies the importance of the Word of YHVH. Within the first chapter
we see the following regarding YHVHs Word:
Held prophetic knowledge about the Messiah and His sufferings (as discussed
previously).
Help us in the process of purifying our souls through obedience to the Word and the
help of His Spirit. The Truth is a synonym for the Word.
The word is called the Incorruptible Seed that transformed us through the born again
process (as discussed previously).
The Word of YHVH endures forever.
The Gospel is preached by using the Word of YHVH as a basis referring back to
prophecies regarding the Good news of Messiah and His coming Kingdom.
The Word of God can be seen as many things and sometimes misused in a way to prove a point
by taking scriptures out of context or by saying that the Holy Spirit revealed something, but
this revelation may be contrary to the Word. Some say that you can prove anything form the
Bible and others use it for direction playing Bible roulette, opening up a random verse and say
that God spoke to them. This proves that the Word of YHVH can be misused and mistreated that
can cause many Golden Calves within the Christian world.
Q How should we use the Word and how am I protected by random words preached that
contradict and confuse?
Guidelines for using and understanding and interpreting the Word:
The Word of YHVH is holy and True and can never change. It is the Words of a King
and a King cannot go back on His word, let alone God.
The Word is the Bread of Life that feeds your soul and keeps your spirit man alive.
Without consuming the Word daily you will lose weight and die spiritually.
Truth is always established by two or more witnesses.
Its all about context, context, context.
One passage in Scripture cannot ever contradict another passage in Scripture, one of the
two is wrongly translated or interpreted.
Everything a prophet say must line up and be tested against the Word.
Every teaching or word that is preached must be tested against the Word.
Every word received from the Holy Spirit will never contradict the Scripture.
38

Know and understand that the translations are done by man and the latter translations are
translated with their doctrinal views and sometimes contain commentaries. Test those
against the full context of Scripture to validate their accuracy.
It is always a good thing to see where a word is used first in Scripture in understanding
the full meaning their off we have lost the true meaning of phrases, idioms and words
through our modern culture. The OT is the Dictionary to the NT and a word picture
always tells the truth.
You need to know the true meaning of terms like Faith, Love, Grace, Truth, Light, Love,
Fear, etc. in order to interpret the Scripture accurately.
It is a good thing to use the Hebrew meaning of words and where they are yused first to
understand the Scripture better, especially the NT.
Incorruptible seed is the Word or Words of YHVH.
Q - What is Corruptible seed?
Corruptible seed is any word or words that are about YHVH or His things, words that are
twisted by Satan or man through religion or legalism. You bring a curse upon yourself is you
follow man made traditions (of the Fathers) .
Jer 17:5-8 Thus says the Lord: Cursed [arur] be the man who trusts in man, and
makes flesh his arm, and whose heart departs from the Lord. 6For he shall be like the
juniper tree [arar] in the desert, and shall not see when good comes; but shall
inhabit the parched places [charar] in the wilderness, a
salt land not inhabited.
People feeding on Corruptible Words of man are cursed and they
are like Arar Trees planted in the desert. People that feed on the
Incorruptible Word of YHVH are like Trees planted by springs of
living water and bears good fruit. Psalm 1.
The Arar tree is a tree that survives the harshest conditions in the
desert and its got a 20 ft root-system that reaches water way down
below within a desert environment. When you are in the desert
experiencing hunger or thirst, you can be misled by these trees because of their fruit that looks
nutritious, but if you open up the fruit it is like dust, full of poisonous fibres that will kill you.
These poisonous fibres inside their fruit will kill you and this is what YHVH compares the
corruptible seed man produces.
Psalm 1:1-3 Blessed is the man that walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor
stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful. 2 But his delight is in
the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. 3 And he shall
be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth his fruit in his
season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
The Word of YHVH gives life to those who consume the Incorruptible Seed and they are
Blessed people who bear fruit that brings Life.

Things we are going to discuss in this study:

Tasting the Word Newborn Babes
Chief Corner Stone of Stumbling
Holy Priesthood & Spiritual House
$Qm: Will we be stones in the wall making up the City of the New Jerusalem?

Tasting the Word

1 Pet 2:19 Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and
envies, and all evil speakings, 2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the
word, that ye may grow thereby: 3 If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is
gracious.
There is a place in Scripture in Psalm 38 where David wrote; ...taste and see that YHVH is
good...
Taste is the Hebrew word ta-am that means; to taste and to perceive. This word is first found
in Scripture in 1 Sam 14:24 where Saul made an oath, releasing a curse over everyone who eat
any food until evening that day during the battle with the Philistines.
Jonathan Sauls son, and his Armour Bearer went up to the camp of the Philistines and asked
YHVH to confirm with a sign whether to attack or run. They received the sign and attacked and
that caused an earthquake followed by confusion within the camp with Philistines that resulted
them killing one another, making Israel victorious in battle that day. Jonathan did not hear the
oath of his father and ate honey he found and his eyes were enlightened.
1Sa 14:27 But Jonathan did not hear when his father made the people swear. And he
put forth the end of the rod in his hand and dipped it in a honeycomb, and put his
hand to his mouth. And his eyes were lightened.
Honey is a symbol of YHVHs Word:
Psalm 119:103 How sweet are Your Words to my taste! Yes, sweeter than honey
to my mouth!
Q - What does this mean in context of 1 Peter 2?
Peter encourages the young newly born believers to desire the Word of YHVH like a baby
desiring milk so that they may grow strong and TASTE YHVHs goodness.
Jonathan is an example of such a new born Believer, son of a king with zeal and passion.
This is a great example of New Believers who have a First Love and passion for God.
Q- Do you remember when you were newly born on how you just wanted to do things for God,
see miracles and learn as much as you can?
Jonathan, through his faith, went out to face the Enemy with God and his Arms Bearer, made up
a sign and asked YHVH to confirm the outcome. That is pretty radical in my books. Having a
First Love for YHVH is to go out and concur, not worrying about the older believers who
are limited by their experience, good or bad. We tend to copy good experiences and expect
things to happen the same way again and we are caught out because YHVH can do as He
pleases. Secondly we avoid bad experiences and stop trying to avoid failure that makes us
stagnant. YHVH wants us to get back our FIRST LOVE (Rev 2:4) to TASTE and SEE that He
41

is GOOD and gracious. Peter was not down playing these new born believers calling them
foolish Babes, he was encouraging them to have the desire and zeal for God in the midst of
persecution, in similar circumstances Jonathan faced, to be fearless knowing that God is on their
side.
Enlightened Eyes: Jonathan TASTED the Honey / Word and his EYES were
ENLIGHTENED. The word enlightened means; to be glorious and to be
set on fire or have fire in his eyes
Q - Where have we read this in the Bible?
Rev 1:14 His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow.
And His eyes were like a flame of fire.
Yshua is described in Revelation as having eyes that are as flames of fire that means that He is the Enlightened One, the WORD that enlightens. Yshua
will come just like Jonathan, bringing an earthquake that will shake and confuse everyone when
He is coming. Secondly, it shows that He has the zeal and the fire in His eyes to face His
enemies to destroy them. He is the Word of God and we must desire and taste His Word so
that the same fire and zeal may burn in our eyes when we fight with Him to destroy the enemy.
That is the calling to the Babes or New-Born Believer.
The first battle is an Internal One. When Israel left Egypt they faced Amalec
first. Amalec is a symbol of the flesh and it states after the battle that Amalec
was not destroyed completely. During this battle YHVH told Moses to hold up
his staff above his head and while his arm was raised, Israel won, but when he
got tired and lowered his arms, Amalec won. Later Aaron and Hur supported
Moses arms and they won the battle that day. This is wisdom for us to
overcome malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil
speakings as Peter explained. What we need to overcome the internal battle
against the flesh is with the support and help of the Word and the Spirit, symbolised by Aaron
and Hur. The word for support is the Hebrew equivalent of FAITH. So your faith is to
overcome the flesh and keep that enemy defeated in your life with the zeal and first love for
YHVH and Yshua.

Precious Living Stone, Chief Corner Stone, Stone of Stumbling,

Rock of Offence
1 Pet 2:68 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture,
Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he
that believes on him shall not be confounded. 7 Unto you therefore
which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient,
the stone which the builders rejected, the same is made the
head of the corner, 8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of

42

offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also
they were appointed.
Stone is the Hebrew word Aven and is the combination of the two words, Ab (Father) and Ben
(Son). There are another combination of the Father and Son namely Ab (Father) and Bar (Son)
that forms the word Aber that means feather. Stone is firs found in Scripture in the Garden of
Eden describing a precious stone and secondly describes bricks for building the Tower of Babel.
Feather was first used in Scripture in Ps 55:6 describing the wings of a Dove (Holy Spirit) and
second place in Isa 40:31 describing wings of eagles for those who wait upon the Lord in an
environment of Judgement. The Precious Stone is linked to the Dove - Eden and Peace but the
brick is linked to Judgement. Very interesting.
Elohim: The first combination of Father and Son has to do with the Name of God that we
pronounce as Elohim, the name that represents YHVHs Kingship, Righteousness and
Judgement. (Messenger, Judge, King) This is the Stone that will be used to crush the earthly
kingdoms (Towers) as depicted in the image that Nebuchadnezzar saw in his dream that Daniel
interpreted.
YHVH: The second combination of Father and Son that forms the word Avar or feather has to
do with the Name of God that is pronounced as Yahweh the name that depicts His Grace and
Mercy as found in Psalm 91 where He said that we will be covered and under His Wings,
protected by His feathers.
Psa 91:1-5 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall rest under the
shadow of the Almighty. (2) I will say of Jehovah, my refuge and my fortress; my God;
in Him I will trust. (3) Surely He will deliver you from the fowler's trap and from the
destroying plague. (4) He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings
you shall trust. His truth shall be your shield, and buckler. (5) You shall not fear
the terror by night; nor because of the arrow that flies by day;
YHVHs protection is described here as His feathers as well as His wings. We further
read that His Truth shall be your shield and buckler. This is a good example of Hebrew
poetry where thoughts rhyme; feathers and wings and shield and buckler are two
sets of the same meanings but also mean or imply the same, feather means the same
as shield and wings means the same as buckler.
Buckler also means shield but comes from the root word that means merchant,
someone who goes round and buy / sell stuff. The context of butler if found in Gen
23:16 where Abraham went to the Sons of Heth to buy land to bury Sarah for 400
shekels of silver. This was the legal contract for buying the land where Joshua will
lead Gods people into, namely the Land of Israel.
Heth means terror or fear and this perfectly link to the reason why we need protection for
the time of fear and terror. Another interesting thing is that we saw from the previous study that
Sarahs name means princess and is related to the meaning power of the Prince that is found
in the meaning of the word Government in context of the story of Jacob meeting Esau called
Jacobs Trouble referring to the Great Tribulation.
Everything links up perfectly; we need to be under the protection of YHVHs feathers and
wings in the time of the Great Tribulation where YHVH will set up His Kingdom and
Government through the Prince of Peace. This will be a time of terror to those who will not
experience YHVH feathers through the Prince of Peace. We further see from Psalm 91 that this
shield and buckler protection is through His Truth, the Word of YHVH. This is confirmed
in Rev 1:3 Blessed is the one who reads and hears the Words of this prophecy,
43

and the ones keeping the things written in it, for the time is near. This is why it is important
to study and know His Word as well as doing it because it will protect you in the time of trouble.
Stone of Stumbling: People in the world will experience Him as Elohim, the Stone and
Wrath, the Righteous Judge that will come and destroy the earthly kingdoms set up by Satan that
will cause their Images and Towers to Stumble and fall. They will be crushed by this Stone as
part of His Wrath and Judgement.

Spiritual House & Holy Royal Priesthood Chosen

Peculiar people

Q Is there still a High Priest, Priesthood, Temple & Sacrifices?

1 Pet 2:5,9 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy
priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.. 9 But
ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people;
that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness
into his marvellous light;
Everything YHVH set up in the OT is a shadow of things real that is to come.
Who serve the example and shadow of heavenly things (Heb 8:5). And we
read further in Heb 10:1 For the Law (Torah first 5 Books of the Scripture)
which has a shadow of good things to come, not the very image of the
things. What is real in the Spiritual realm, casts a shadow in the

Physical realm, so that we can understand of what the Spiritual is

like. This does not mean that the shadow is wrong or bad and will be replaced
with the Real or Spiritual. No, the Shadow is good and is our Schoolmaster
or Teacher and Guardian (Gal 3:24) that guards and protects us as well as
showing us spiritual things that we cannot comprehend physically. YHVH set
up a Tabernacle and later a Temple, a Priesthood and the Sacrificial
System to show us what exists in the Spiritual and how Spiritual
things work where He exists.

Spiritual House
Peter talks about a Spiritual House that are build up with lively
stones referring to us as believers. This is the exact picture of the
Temple or House of YHVH that was built with blocks of stone by
Solomon, the son of David.
Solomons name is pronounced Shelomho that is related to
Shalom that means Peace. This fits in perfectly with our previous
discussion regarding the Prince of Peace which links to Solomons
name and function.

44

Shalom not only means Peace, it also means completion of the

building process as in building a house. This peace is a satisfaction that
is described when the Builder has just finished the House he built and
stands back to appreciate his handiwork, comparing it with his plan. In
the same way will Yshua, the Wise Builder, Prince of Peace, stand back
and look at the completion of His handiwork, which is us that are shaped
and formed to fit perfectly in with one another, forming the structure of
the House that He will dwell in with His Father.

Role of the Priesthood

"For the Lord your God has chosen him out of all your tribes, to stand to serve in
the name of the Lord, him and his sons forever." (Deut. 18:5)
Peter describes us to be part of the Priesthood and to understand what that
means we will go back and have a look at the Levitical Priesthood first. The
Priesthood comes from Levi, Jacobs third son from his mother Leah, First
wife of Jacob (Israel).
Levi means to interweave. When you weave you have horizontal threads
and vertical threads, interweaving the horizontal (man physical) with the
vertical (God - spiritual), facilitating the process of connecting man with
YHVH. This weaving process created the fabric that were used in building
of the Tabernacle, the House of YHVH where He lived among His people.
The Levites or Priests were servants that served the people in
order that the people can connect with YHVH as well as partake in the System
of Grace through the sacrifices.
Priest or Kohen: YHVH chose the Priests to be in a position of spiritual leadership. In the
days of the Temple, they were responsible for the sacred service. The Hebrew word kohen
actually means "to serve," and related with the words ken, that means "yes," and kivvun
that means, "to direct." Thus a Kohen or Priest is called upon to direct himself, and others,
in the proper service of God:

Ex. 28:1 "And you, separate your brother Aaron and his sons from among the
Israelites, and bring them close to you... so they can serve me."

The main functions of the Priests were:

They are to be Holy - primary definition of "holy" is "set apart to the service of God."
Served as the mediators between YHVH and the people.
Offered Sacrifices on behalf of the people interceded.
Minister in the Temple and perform Temple duties.
Took care of and maintaining the Temple, making repairs when needed.
Served as musicians & singers.
Doorkeepers welcoming people into the Temple.
They were the Scribes who protected, preserved and copied the Scrolls - Scripture.
Teachers of the Scripture to the people.
They were Government servants acting as Judges and rulers over Israel.
45

They were accountable for accurate weights and measures, calibrating the scales ensuring
fairness of dealings and trade amongst the people.
Be a witness to the people - set an example

Neither the priests nor the Levites spent all their time of service at the temple. Most of the year
they had their own homes, farms, and business of which to take care. According to a fixed
schedule they took turns performing the duties assigned to them.

Why a new Priesthood?

Peter made it clear that we are now the new Royal Priesthood, why a new
Priesthood?
Heb 8:7 For if that first covenant priesthood had been faultless, then
should no place have been sought for the second (priesthood).

We have discussed this briefly before by showing what is Real in the Spiritual
you need to have a Shadow in the physical.
Heb 8:7 is normally miss-interpreted because of miss-translation. You will see the word
covenant is in italics that means that it is not in the original text and is inserted by the
translators to make it read more fluently. The context of Hebrews 8 is about the Tabernacle, the
High Priest and the Priesthood and not the Covenant. This is confirmed in v8 mentioning;
finding fault with THEM, (plural) not singular if referring to the Covenant.
The Old Priesthood was a Physical Priesthood making them part of the SHADOW. They
consisted of people without the indwelling Holy Spirit, making them having faults.
The New Priesthood is made up with people who are under the Blood of the Lamb and have
received the indwelling Spirit of YHVH that equips them to be irreproachable or perfect. This is
from the Spiritual, making them a Spiritual Priesthood, part of the REAL. This means that
YHVH raised the Standard regarding His new Priesthood, making the better and more Holy or
useful within His Kingdom. The fact is that the Priesthood Still exist, just as the Temple and
High Priest and System of Grace.
The Levitical Priesthood has been replaced by the new Melchizedek Priesthood. The High Priest
was changed from the order of Aaron to the order of Melchizedek, from a physical High Priest to
a spiritual High Priest Who is Y'shua the Messiah.
Melchizedek is formed by 2 words Melech that means King and Tzadik that means
Righteous, the King of Righteousness. This High Priest was from Salem that is derived from
Shalom meaning Peace that fits Messiahs description perfectly as the Prince of Peace. This
gives Yshua His full Title:
Elohim - YHVH is Salvation Lamb of God - Anointed One High Priest Righteous
Judge King of Righteousness King of kings Prince of Peace.
It is not only the High Priest and the Priesthood that changed, the Temple changed as well. It
changed form a physical Temple to a Spiritual Temple. The absence of the physical Temple
no longer required the presence of a physical Levitical priesthood that means they could no
longer perform their service in the Temple according to the Law. All the services changed from
physical to spiritual, Temple, Priesthood and Sacrifices. (1Pe_2:5).
Q Does the Sacrificial System still exist and is it still valid?

46

Yes, without a Sacrificial System that is still active, no one would be able to receive its benefits.
Another word for Sacrificial System is the System of Grace. Without Grace there would have
been no Sacrifices and ultimately no Sacrifice of the Lamb of God without the cleaning Blood of
Yshua.
Sacrifice is the word karbon that means to draw near. Draw near to who? To draw near to
YHVH. In the absence of a physical temple, drawing near to YHVH is done by Spiritual
Sacrifices as mentioned by Peter in v5.
Q What can we class as Spiritual Sacrifices today?
Spiritual Sacrifices is the SIGN that show that you are His Royal Priesthood.
Q - What is the sign of the Priesthood today?
When you look at the Tabernacle Pattern that is a model
to show us how to draw near to YHVH it takes us to
different processes preparing us to enter into the
presence of YHVH. Everything on the outside of the
Holy Place is what prepares and allows you into the
Holy Place. The Holy place is the place where only the
Priest could enter as part of their service to YHVH. The
Priests fulfilled the following tasks:

Golden Altar: This Inner Altar stood inside, in the Holy Place "before the Veil that is
by the Ark of the Covenant. The incense service which was the most
beloved part of the Temple service to YHVH. The nominated Priest had to
get up early to be ready for the tasks at hand. Most of the tasks were
assigned by the means of 4 Lotteries that will assign different Priests for
different tasks. This is a beautiful example how YHVH CHOOSES us and gives us
DIFFERENT GIFTS to fulfil our duties in His TEMPLE as His Priests.
The Priest on duty had to take coals form the Brazen Altar on the outside and brought it
into the Holy Place and lit the Golden Altar of Incense. The Altar of Incense is
symbolizes PRAYER and the smoke that fills the Holy Place is our prayers that go up to
YHVH. The sweet smell of our sacrifices make Him rest from His anger towards man.
The Inner Altar is located right in front of the Holy of Holies symbolizing that this is the
way to enter into an intimate relationship with the Father. PRAYER is the sign that you
are part of the New Priesthood accessing the Holy of Holies in a relationship with the
Father.

Showbread Bread of the Presence: They tend to the showbread making sure there
were new breads on the Table of Shewbread every week, changing it
with new ones each Sabbath. The Priests were entitled to eat the cakes
that had been removed, as long as they did so in a holy place, as it
considered the bread to be holy. What is this a picture of?
Taking in your daily/ weekly portion of spiritual bread / YHVHs Word eating it in the
Holy place / personal time and relationship with Yshua, the Word of God.

Menorah The lamps of the Menorah was lit daily, from evening till morning,
starting with the central lamp (shamash) and then moving form Right to
Left. Shamash means Servant and is the symbol of the Messiah Who
came as a Servant to die for us fulfilling the prophecy of Messiah ben
47

Yoseph the Servant. When He comes again He will fulfil the prophecy of Messiah ben
David the King.
The High Priest trimmed and replaced the wicks as well as topping up the oil in the
Menorah making sure it is equipped to burn for the next day without going out. Yshua is
our High Priest and the Menorah is the Symbol of the Holy Spirit.
Everything regarding the Menorah is done either by the Messiah or by His Spirit.
The function of the Menorah is to create Light and Reveal what is on the Showbread
(Word). To have access to the Messiah and the Spirit you need to be INSIDE the Holy
Place implying daily intimacy with Him through studying His Word and Prayer.
We are the Temple, Messiah is our High Priest, we are His Priesthood and our prayers,
testimonies, praises and actions are sacrifices unto Him. We stand in for the nations and do
service so that they may enter into the Kingdom. This is the sign and duties for us being part of
the Priesthood according to the order of Melchizedek.
We find ourselves between the Two Comings of Messiah and what we experience now is a
shadow of what is to come, just like the current is REAL to the shadow that preceded it prior to
His First Coming. Show that implies that there are TWO SHADOWS, one closer to the REAL
than the REAL-REAL that is coming after the Second Coming.
Q What would the REAL-REAL look like?
Will there be a Temple, a High Priest, a Priesthood and a System of Grace and service within the
Temple to draw people closer to YHVH?

1Pe 2:10-12 You who then were not a people, but now the people of God, those not
pitied then, but now pitied. (11) Dearly beloved, I exhort you as temporary
residents and pilgrims to abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the
soul, (12) having your conduct honest among the nations, in that which they
speak against you as evildoers, they may glorify God in a day of His visitation, seeing
your good works.
Fleshly lusts rage war against your soul.
Q - Where did fleshly lusts came from? Where did lust originate from?
Lust is the word nephesh that is first found in Scripture in Ex 15:9 in the Song of Moses that
they sang just after they left Egypt.
Exo 15:9 The enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my lust
shall be satisfied upon them, I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them.
Nephesh - From H5314; properly a breathing creature, that is, animal or (abstractly)
vitality; used very widely in a literal, accommodated or figurative sense (bodily or
mental): - any, appetite, beast, body, breath, creature, X
dead (-ly), desire, X [dis-] contented, X fish, ghost, +
greedy, he, heart (-y), (hath, X jeopardy of) life (X in
jeopardy), lust, man, me, mind, mortality, one, own,
person, pleasure, (her-, him-, my-, thy-) self, them (your) selves, + slay, soul,
You have all heard of the Animal Instinct or Animal inside that is exactly what this word implies. This word is also found
when YHVH created animals and man as found in Gen 2.

49

Gen_2:7 And YHVH Elohim formed the man out of dust from the ground, and
breathed (nashamah) into his nostrils breath of life. And the man became a
living soul (nephesh).
Animals are called nephesh as well as humans. This implies that mans
soul and animals souls are similar and the only difference between them
is the breath of life or nashamah man received at Creation. The word
nashamah is word that also means soul. The nashamah differentiate
man from animals giving man a spiritual soul as well as a fleshly
soul. This means that mans soul consists of two parts, a physical
(nephesh) and a spiritual (nashamah). After the fall of man, sin came into
the world, and man lost his nashamah and the ability to be in contact
with YHVH constantly. This caused man to fall to a lower state of life,
similar to that of animals, having only a fleshly physical soul.
It is through the work of the Messiah that YHVH had restored mans
nashamah by receiving YHVHs Spirit (Ruach or Breath of Life) again. We call this process
to be BORN AGAIN. Being in this new state of life, having His Spirit, and restored nashamah
(spiritual soul), YHVH gave you a NEW NATURE that gives you the ability to be without sin,
but within you members there is the other part of you, the nephesh (physical soul), that is in
conflict with your new nature, trapped in the fallen OLD
NATURE, battling against one another.
It is within these two souls that the Battle rage for dominance,
just like two dogs, a white dog representing good and a black
dog representing evil. The dog you feed will be the strongest and
overcome the other and that nature will be dominant in your life.
The nephesh or physical soul also known as LUST and is
responsible for the Lust of the Flesh that is the cause for us to
sin and it battles against our spiritual soul as Peter describes in
v11 as well as what Paul describes in Romans 7.
Rom 7:19-23 For I do not do the good that I desire; but the evil which I do not
will, that I do. (20) But if I do what I do not desire, it is no more I working it out, but
sin dwelling in me. (21) I find then a law (of the flesh): when I will to do the right,
evil is present with me. (22) For I delight in the Law (of the Spirit) of God according
to the inward man; (23) but I see another law in my members (flesh), warring
against the law of my mind (spirit), and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin
being in my members (flesh).
Paul describes this battle at the hand of two laws that he obeys; the LAW of the FLESH or the
LAW of SIN vs. the LAW of the SPIRIT or the LAW of the MIND. The tern law is used
because it is something you submit under and obey and you serve the Authority whos law it is.
The Law of the Flesh comes from Satan and resulted in our fallen nature. If you obey the Law of
the Flesh / Sin, you are actually under the authority of Satan obeying Him.
Eph 2:2- 3 In which you formerly walked according to the course of this world,
according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working
in the sons of disobedience. 3 Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of
our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature
children of wrath, even as the rest.

50

If you choose to walk according to the Law of the Spirit obeying YHVHs Word, you are
seen as His children obeying and serving Him. Care should be taken that you do not defile your
nashamah or spiritual soul through the desires and lusts of the flesh, nephesh or physical
soul. This is an ongoing battle that will only stop when your body will also be restored to a
higher state. We saw this battle in the previous study when we looked at the battle between Israel
and Amalec.

Submit to Authority
1Pe 2:13, 14, 17 Then be in obedience to every ordinance of men, because of the
Lord, whether to a king as supreme, (14) or to governors as sent by Him for
vengeance on evildoers, but for praise on well-doers. (17) Honor all. Love the
brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.
We have discussed in the previous study the importance of the
government and the function thereof maintaining peace and
safety for the people living in that land. God set up and
allowed governments all over the World to function in the
purpose of governing and protecting the people. That is not to
say that the governments of the world are 100% kosher, but
we still have to submit under them. The intent of these laws
are there to protect the good people and punish bad people.
Q - Do you need to obey all the laws of the land or only some
of the laws?
Daniel and his friends were in captivity in Babylon and king Nebuchadnezzar expected them to
worship and bow down to him. They refused and ended up in the fiery furnace. This is an
example of when NOT to obey authorities; if the law of the land
requires you to do something that is contrary to God's Word, you can
refuse and not obey.
Dan 3: 3-6 Then the princes, the governors, and captains, the
judges, the treasurers, the counsellors, the sheriffs, and all the
rulers of the provinces, were gathered together unto the
dedication of the image that Nebuchadnezzar the king
had set up; and they stood before the image that
Nebuchadnezzar had set up. Then an herald cried aloud, To
you it is commanded, O people, nations, and languages,
That at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery,
dulcimer, and all kinds of music, ye fall down and worship the golden image
that Nebuchadnezzar the king hath set up: And whoso falleth not down and
worshipps shall the same hour be cast into the midst of a burning
fiery furnace
Another example we find in Scripture is in the Book of Revelation where
the Beast, representing the government of the land, demands people to
bow down and worship them.
Rev 13:15 And it was given unto him to give breath to it, even
to the image to the breast, that the image of the beast should

51

both speak, and cause that as many as should not worship the image of the beast
should be killed.
And he causes all, the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free and
the bond, that there be given them a mark on their right hand, or upon their forehead.
If any Law of the land opposes God's Word then you should not obey that law. For example, if
they ask you to take a mark or implant of some sort in your hand so that you can buy or sell, do
not do it because YHVH warns us in His Word against this and the scary part is, that it will
happen and is prophesied.
YHVH's PROTECTION for us lies within KNOWING & OBEYING His Word and it is the
ignorant Christian that will be led astray.
Rev 1:3 Blessed is the one who reads and hears the Words of this prophecy, and
the ones keeping the things written in it, for the time is near.

Hos 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected
knowledge,

Pro 29:18 Where there is no vision, the people perish

Conclusion: It is good to submit to rulers and governors and people in authority because it is
YHVHs order that He set as example, but if these bodies of authority demands you rejecting
your faith in YHVH or forcing you to bow down to other gods or them, then you stand firm and
die for your faith if you have to.

What is True Freedom?

1Pe 2:16 As free, and not having freedom as a cover of evil, but as
servants of God.
Q What does freedom mean to you in a spiritual sense?
To be free is to be able to make your own choices and to live your life
the way you think it must be lived. Total freedom means to make any
choice you want, without any limitations. Peter refer to freedom as
someone who are free but still under authority of YHVH calling these
people servants of God. (Bondservants)
Lets look at one extreme to show what true freedom is. The person that is in the position to
exercise the highest form of freedom is a king, someone who can create, change or take away
rules / laws. The King makes the rules and He is above the law because He is the author. He
can change it whenever he likes and His choices are above his restrictions
he imposes. The only thing to remember is that every choice has a
consequence.
We find a perfect example in Scripture of such a king who made his own
rules, the king who saw himself as a god. His name was Pharaoh and he,
being a self-made god created rules and laws as he wished according to
his liking and satisfaction. That made him the freest man alive and this
allowed him to make choices from his position of liberty.
52

When Pharaoh was confronted by YHVH, (through Moses), to let Gods people go, resulted in
serious consequences, even death to his first born son. His FREEDOM did not stop the
CONSEQUINCE but the CONSEQUINCE proved his BONDAGE as a result of his CHOICES.
The word Egypt means BONDAGE and the king Pharaoh, was the FREE MAN ruling over
the Kingdom of Bondage.
Q- Are you the king and authority over your life? Are you so free to make whatever decisions
you want because of your liberty, grace and freedom?
The reality is that you may be free to make the decisions you like or think is right, but you WILL
reap the consequences of every decision you make and bear the consequences of each one of
them. Freedom and liberty does not lie within the decision process, it is within the
Consequences. It is these consequences that will either set you free or bind you - real freedom is
within knowing the Truth and making the right decisions based on the truth so that the TRUTH
can set you FREE.
The highest law in Satanism do thy own will. Satanism rejects authority and promotes
freedom to do whatever you want or what you feel to do in your heart. This is opposing to
YHVHs Word where He instructs us to follow Him implying His Word and His
Commandments showing that we love Him and are subject to Him and His will.
YHVHs Quality of Life Chai Olam is a life lived within His Safety, His Safe Boundaries He
set in His Word (Truth) and if you follow and stay witin these guidelines, you will have a life
full of Blessings and Freedom. Make Him the King of your life and climb off your selfish
throne, accept His authority and make life changing decisions under the guidance of His Word /
Truth.

Mans Will vs. Gods Will

1Pe 2:13-17 Then be in obedience to every ordinance of men, because of the Lord,
whether to a king as supreme, (14) or to governors as sent by Him for vengeance on
evildoers, but for praise on well-doers. (15) For such is the will of God, doing good
to silence the ignorance of foolish men; (16) as free, and not having freedom as a
cover of evil, but as servants of God. (17) Honor all. Love the brotherhood. Fear
God. Honor the king.
Peter says: For such is the will of God We have looked at obeying Authorities and that
surely is the will of God, but the Will of God is greater than this one topic and the question
always arises:
Q What is the Will of God?
Will is the Hebrew word raw-tsone', raw-tsone' - From H7521; delight: - (be) acceptable
(-ance, -ed), delight, desire, favour, (good) pleasure, (own, self, voluntary) will, as . . .
(what) would.
It is first used in Scripture where Jacob spoke a blessing over each one of his 12 sons. This
particular verse is for Simeon and Levi who killed the men who defiled their sister:
Gen 49:6 O my soul, come not thou into their secret; unto their assembly, mine
honour, be not thou united: for in their anger they slew a man, and in their self-will
they digged down a wall.

53

This is a good example when you follow your own will instead of YHVHs will. It ends up in
disaster just like the Freedom to Choose ends up in Consequence of bondage.
1. Restoring Creation: When Yshua taught His Disciples to pray He said let your will be
done, on earth as it is in Heaven This gives us an indication of the broader Will of the
Father which is about establishing Spiritual things into the Physical Realm or in other words,
to revamp the Earthly things so that it can be good enough for Him to come to and live with
His people together on the Earth. This restoration process takes place through His First and
Second Comings as discussed in previous studies. Restoration will take place in the
following areas:

Remove mans old nature and give him a new nature First Coming
Restore His Breath of Life - His Spirit First Coming
Restore Health First Coming
Remove Satan, fallen angels and wicked people form among us Second. Coming.
Restore the Garden of Eden state Second Coming
Restore Jerusalem and the Tempe Second Coming
Restore His Kingdom Second Coming

We are part of that plan but what stands in the way is our Self-will that is rooted in selfishness.
This proves that YHVH is the opposite of that and that He is Selfless and His Will is for the
benefit of others, not for Himself.
2. General Will of God: This deals with There is a generic or COMMON Will of God that
has to do with us doing the right thing obeying His Word and living good moral lives, loving
YHVH and loving your neighbour with everything you do, submitting to authorities and
people in leadership positions.
3. Specific Will of God: Then there is the SPECIFIC Will of God that has to do with the
PLAN of YHVH and the path that you are on and where YHVH wants you to be and
become. YHVH Will is founded on His Plan for your life and what He wants you to do. This
is where you need His guidance through a relationship with Him so that you can learn to hear
His voice regarding your future.
The key to find out what the Will of God is for your life is through prayer and relationship with
Him there is no other way.

Suffering under Evil Rulers Grace of God

1Pe 2:18-21 Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear, not only to those
good and forbearing, but also to the perverse ones. (19) For this is a grace, if for
conscience toward God anyone endures grief, suffering wrongfully. (20) For what
glory is it if you patiently endure while being buffeted for your mistakes? But if
you suffer while doing good, and patiently endure, this is a grace from God.
Again, do not forget the purpose of this letter; Peter encouraged those who were persecuted for
their faith by Nero to the extreme of being killed. The main theme of the Book of 1 Peter is
GRACE and Peter repeated the phrase for this is a grace twice to underline its
importance. We have touched on Grace before in this very same context and this is to recap:
Grace is needed in a time of Judgement and explained thorough the story of Noah when YHVH
judged the earth. Noah and his family were perfect that caused them to be eligible for
YHVHs GRACE. We become perfect when we pursue Holiness after Repentance. That gets
you in the BOAT to experience His Grace.
Peter talks about servants who are mistreated by their perverse masters. Perverse is the Greek
word skolios that means warped and comes from the root word skelos that means leg or
lean. This word is found in Gen 32:25 where Jacob wrestled with YHVH and got his thigh
(leg) dislocated. This word is also found later on in Exo 29:22 where Aaron and his sons were
initiated and set apart (made holy) for their Priestly office, making mention of the right thigh
(leg) of the ordained sacrificial ram.
Q What does all of this have to do with perverse or warped masters?
The thigh is the pillar of a man's strength that YHVH dislocated to make Jacob powerless and
dependent. This is where YHVH changed Jacobs WALK (actions) and this event also records
the changing of Jacobs Name to Israel (changing his destiny).
This is also where YHVH ordained the High Priest and the Priesthood through the anointing &
sacrificial ceremony.

55

This is what it means: The Perverse Masters Strength or Authority will be taken away giving
them powerless legs in the same way as YHVH touched Jacob making him powerless. He will
also change their WALK after establishing His Kingdom on the Earth through Anointing new
Authorities, His Priestly Office that will be His Government ruling under Him.
Revelation 20:6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such
the second death hath no power, but they shall be Priests of God and of Christ, and
shall reign with him a thousand years.
Q How should we deal with evil warped Authorities - is it wise to take matters into your own
hands?
Deut 32:35-36 Vengeance is Mine, and retribution, In due
time their foot will slip; For the day of their calamity is near,
And the impending things are hastening upon them.' 36"For
YHVH will vindicate His people, And will have compassion
on His servants, When He sees that their strength is gone, And
there is none remaining, bond or free.
It is not wise to try and stand up against these evil rulers and authorities, rather submit to
Authority and give the situation into YHVHs hands and let Him deal with it. Let YHVH turn
His wrath on these perverse leaders and let Him make them powerless. Do not try to avenge the
things that are done to you wrongly, YHVH will act according to His righteousness and they will
pay accordingly. What He warns us not to do is to take matters in our own hands or take joy in
the calamity of the evil ones after He dealt with them, if you do, then He will lift His hand and
turn His punishment away from them.
Pro 24:1-18 Do not be jealous of evil men, nor desire to be with them. (2) For their
heart studies ruin, and their lips talk of mischief. (17) Do not rejoice when your
enemy falls, and do not let your heart be glad when he stumbles; (18) lest
Jehovah see, and it displease Him, and He turn away His wrath from him.
Through prayer, hand these people over to YHVH so that He can sort them out on your behalf.
Your job is to forgive for all the evil they have done and YHVH will take care of the rest.
YHVHs Grace will keep you and guard you in the time of your suffering. It is only a question
of time before YHVH will vindicate you so that the wicked
masters who caused you harm, will be destroyed.
The good news is that He will not only vindicate you , but elevate
you as well. He will elevate you above their authority and rule and
appoint you above them to rule the Nations with Him. Just hold on
and be patient.
Deut 28:13 YHVH will make you the head and not the
tail, and you only will be above, and you will not be
underneath, if you listen to the commandments of YHVH your Elohim, which I charge
you today, to observe them carefully.

Messiah suffering because of us

1Pe 2:21-25 For you were not called to this? For Christ also suffered on our behalf,
leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps, (22) He who did no sin, nor
was guile found in His mouth, (23) who when He was reviled did not revile in return.
56

When He suffered, He did not threaten, but gave Himself up to Him who judges
righteously. (24) He Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that dying to
sins, we might live to righteousness; by whose stripes you were healed. (25) For you
were as sheep going astray, but now you are turned to the Shepherd and Overseer of
your souls.
In relation and context of the previous topic Peter mentioned that Yshua suffered on our
behalf. This can also be read as; He suffered because of us. He suffered because of OUR
PERVERSE AUTHORITY, being the masters of our own lives, making the Servant of God
suffer, Who is Yshua.
Q Ever thought of being the Master of your life can cause Him to suffer?
Mistreating someone is unthinkable and you cannot see yourself doing that to any one else. That
might be true but you following your will in stead of submitting to His Authority makes you
the wicked Master and makes Him the Suffering Servant, and all the suffering He went
through is by your hand. This thought lines up with the most debated passage in Scripture:
Heb 6:4-8 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted
of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Spirit, (5) and have tasted
the good Word of God and the powers of the world to come, (6) and who have fallen
away; it is impossible, I say, to renew them again to repentance, since they
crucify the Son of God afresh to themselves and put Him to an open shame. (7)
(For the earth which drinks in the rain that comes often upon it, and brings forth
plants fit for those by whom it is dressed, receives blessing from God. (8) But that
which bears thorns and briers is rejected and is a curse, whose end is to be burned.)
We see that it is possible to crucify Yshua over and over again, putting Him to an open shame
making Him suffer again and again.
Q How do I crucify Yshua over and over again?
We do this when we wilfully sin against YHVH, doing something that we know is wrong, over
and over again. Think twice when you sin wilfully because you make Him a public spectacle,
crucifying Him afresh every time you commit that sin.
John 15:1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener.
Falling back into sin is called backsliding and that means that you have moved away under the
Authority of the One who tends your branches, keeping the wild branches under control as
well as removing thorns and thistles from your heart. To backslide means that you have moved
out under the Fathers Authority, back under your own authority (the flesh Satans authority)
that causes wild branches and thorns to grow and manifest in your life, making your garden a
mess.
Allowing this to continue over time in your life can push it into the extreme that can cause you
your salvation, making it IMPOSSIBLE to repent. Not only that, you have crucified Yshua over
and over again, making Him to suffer and putting His Name to shame in public.
Q - Why is it IMPOSSIBEL to renew them to repentance?
Repentance is something that comes from the person who admits to sin saying he/she is sorry,
making a 180 degree turn in his life. Repentance means a change in Authority meaning a
change of Masters, stop serving Satan through the flesh and start serving God through His
Spirit. Repentance is not made impossible from YHVHs side, it is made impossible from
the backsliders side since he/she allows bondage to overtake them and that BONDAGE will
restrict them to repent.
57

The stronger the bondage the more difficult it will be to turn back to YHVH and can make it
impossible. It all depends on the person, on what they have done to allow the bondage back into
their lives and the type of bondage they allowed. The writer of Hebrews starts this passage
explaining to believers to stop allowing dead works into their lives, laying the foundation every
time:
Heb 6:1 Therefore, having left the discourse of the beginning of Christ, let us go on to
full growth, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and
of faith toward God,
It seems like the writer is frustrated with the people defaulting to
their OLD NATURE allowing dead works / sin / fleshliness to
keep them in bondage ON THE FOUNDATION LEVEL. They
are not growing, building on this foundation but keep on breaking
down the layers that were built before through the act of dead
works and sin.
Yshua uses the analogy of a house build on a rock, the house that
will house Himself and His Father to come and live with you. The
thing is that this House needs to be built first. The House you
build is the first step starting your faith walk and if you build this
House keeping His Word, Yshua and the Father will move in
with you.
John 14:23 If a man loves me, he will keep my word. My Father will love him, and
we will come to him, and make our home with him.
The writer of Hebrews explains that these backsliders have partaken in heavenly things and
were enlightened by YHVHs Word but they have not executed that truth practically,
BUILDING every LAYER OF TRUTH onto that Initial foundation of Repentance, but stayed on
the foundation, taking one step forward and two steps back, breaking down everything that was
built. This makes them foolish gamblers playing with sin and fleshliness and to soothe their
conscious, they keep on repenting staying on the bare foundation of Repentance.
Repentance activates forgiveness through the Blood of Messiah and they have to go back every
time to the Cross and deal with the Blood and cleansing of their sin. This act normally happens
in public where many people come to rededicate their lives over and over again without real
spiritual growth. This is what the writer is talking about where he said crucify the Son of God
afresh to themselves and put Him to an open shame.
They fall into this habit and downward cycle of sin and repentance that will spiral down
into the final state of impossibility where repentance become impossible and sin becomes
natural. This is where they have fallen away from grace (by their choice) and will be lost
forever.
People normally fall into this trap because of their mentality and belief regarding grace and their
tolerance for sin. Some people believe that it is ok to sin because there is grace as long as you
ask for forgiveness after you have done that sin. They want the best of both worlds but the
problem with this is that your conscience will become inactive and you will allow that sin as part
of your nature and convince yourself that it is ok because you are only human. Paul had a huge
problem with this view:

58

Rom 6:4-6 Therefore we were buried with Him by baptism into death, so that as Christ
was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father; even so we also should WALK IN
NEWNESS OF LIFE. (5) For if we have been joined together in the likeness of His death,
we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection; (6) knowing this, that our old man is
crucified with Him in order that the body of sin might be destroyed, that from now
on we SHOULD NOT SERVE SIN.
Dont go there, build on the foundation of Repentance but keep on adding layers of building
blocks of truth you have gathered throughout your walk with YHVH until your House is
complete and fully furnished for good works and holiness. This is when you will experience His
Peace (completion of the building process). Warning: This building process will take a lifetime
and is a ongoing process till YHVH is finished with you.
The Shepherd of Souls
1Pe 2:25 For you were as sheep GOING ASTRAY, but now you are turned to the
Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
One thing that may be confusing for others outside looking in regarding our faith, is that the
Messiah fulfils so many functions as the Anointed One.
Q What different functions does Yshua fulfil?

Creator - through Whom everything was created

Word - that became flesh and walked among us
Lamb of YHVH - that was slain
High Priest - performing the Sacrifice
Righteous Judge - Who will come to judge the world
King - Who will rule over His people

Now we are going to look at Him form His attribute namely the
Shepherd. Most people see the Shepherds function as looking
after the sheep, making sure they have nice green grass to eat and protecting the sheep against
wolves and dangers in the field. But the most important function of the Shepherd is to bring back
those who have gone astray.
Q What is your understanding of the people who have gone astray as Peter referred?
We all understand this concept on a personal level where GOING ASTRAY implies that you
once belonged to Him and He is the Shepherd that will gather back the lost, those who were
once part of His flock. You return back to the Flock through Repentance; turning back from the
wrong path and return to His ways.
Q - How can you go astray when you were in the world as a sinner in the first place?
Q What have you done to go astray as an unbeliever before coming to faith in Yshua or
were you astray or lost initially?
The answer lies and is locked up in Prophecy and this is from where Peter coming from,
addressing the people in these 4 regions, people who most likely form part of the people that
were part of the nations serving sin that are gathered back by Yshua, the Great Shepherd. These
people form part of the His original FLOCK (Israel) that were SCATTERED.

59

These people have GONE ASTRAY because of sin but YHVH is gathering them back, reuniting
them ALL to serve under one Head and King, Yshua the Messiah. Paul uses the analogy of the
OLIVE TREE and the WILD OLIVE TREE to explain this.
Rom 11:16-24 For if the firstfruit is holy, the lump is also holy; and if the root is holy,
so are the branches. 17 And if some of the branches were broken off, and you,
being a wild olive tree, were grafted in among them, and with them became a
partaker of the root and fatness of the olive tree, 18 do not boast against the
branches. But if you do boast, remember that you do not support the root, but the root
supports you. 19 You will say then, Branches were broken off that I might be grafted
in. 20 Well said. Because of unbelief they were broken off, and you stand by faith.
Do not be haughty, but fear. 21 For if God did not spare the natural branches, He may
not spare you either. 22 Therefore consider the goodness and severity of God: on those
who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness,[f] if you continue in His goodness.
Otherwise you also will be cut off. 23 And they also, if they do not continue in unbelief,
will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again. 24 For if you were cut out of
the olive tree which is wild by nature, and were grafted contrary to nature into a
cultivated olive tree, how much more will these, who are natural branches, be grafted
into their own olive tree?
There are three groups mentioned here; the Olive Tree Branches, the Olive Tree Branches that
were broken off and the Wild Olive Tree Branches. We will first look at why there have gone
astray and why they were scattered in the first place before we look at Who the three groups
represent as each one of these branches.
The Consequence of Disobedience Scattering of the Flock
Q Why did YHVH scatter His people in the first place?
We have to go back in history in the time of two kings, King Jeroboam and King Rehoboam,
Solomons son.
Back to why Israel was Scattered and how is that extending grace to the Nations.
The Nation of Israel was divided in the time of two kings; King Jeroboam and King Rehoboam.
(1Ki_11:26-43) YHVH sent His prophet Ahiyah to a young man named Jeroboam. The prophet
tore his new cloak into twelve pieces to represent the twelve tribes of Israel. To show Jeroboam
what YHVH intended to do to the nation of Israel, Ahiyah gave Jeroboam 10 pieces of the torn
cloak to represent 10 TRIBES of the nation of Israel. Ahiyah then related that Solomon's son,
Rehoboam would have only one tribe given to him for the sake of David and the City of
Jerusalem.
The ONE TRIBE given to Solomon's son would be the merger of the Tribe of Judah with the
Tribe of Benjamin and the Levites. These tribes are still in Jerusalem today and are known as the
Jews. Jeroboam would become King over the ten tribes in the north, and Rehoboam would be
King over the one-tribe merger of the south (House of Judah). The Kingdom of Israel (House of
Israel) would be two distinct Kingdoms.
The reason for the initial division took place due to taxation issues where the 10 tribes refused to
live in Jerusalem due to heavy taxes demanded by Rehoboam this resulted them moving to the
Northern regions. Then being in the Northern parts made it impractical for them to go down
three times a year to celebrate the Feasts and they decided to build their own temples to celebrate
were they resided. They did not have the Ark of the Covenant and brought in idols from the
nations they lived among and did nit repent of that sin that caused a curse to be evoked upon
60

them by YHVH. This sin cause a curse that resulted in them being scattered amongst all nations
until this day.
Jer 3:12-15 Go and cry these words toward the north (Ten Tribes), and say, Return,
O backsliding Israel, says YHVH; and I will not cause My anger to fall on you; for I am
merciful, says YHVH , and I will not keep anger forever. (13) Only acknowledge your
iniquity, that you have sinned against YHVH your God and have scattered your
ways to the strangers under every green tree, and you have not obeyed My voice,
says YHVH. (14) Turn, O backsliding sons, says YHVH; for I am married to you;
and I will take you one from a city, and two from a family, and I will bring you to Zion.
(15) And I will give you shepherds according to My heart, who shall feed you with
knowledge and understanding.
Hos 9:17 My God will cast them aside, because they wouldnt listen to Him, and they
will become wanderers among the Goyim.
Turning a Curse into a Blessing
Q How is this Curse of Scattering Israel turned into a Blessing for the Nations?
The sin Israel committed caused a curse to come upon then that resulted in them being scattered
among the Nations. YHVH used this consequence and curse and turned it into a blessing for the
Nations, extending His Grace to all Nations.
The reason for this is because of the Covenant YHVH made with Israel through Abraham and
Jacob and that Covenant can NEVER be broken.
The only way to change His Word is to ADD WORDS OF
GRACE and those words are known as the New Covenant. This
ADDING OF GRACE is explained in the Book of Ester and the
story of Hadassah who became queen, hiding her true nature as a
Jew to find favour in the eyes of the King.
In the end when she revealed herself as a Jew and had to die
with all the Jews because of the Word / decree the King that
went out against all Jews; they all had to be killed on a certain
day. He could not retract his Word because the word of a King
stands forever but he resolved the issue by adding another Word
/ Decree that allowed the Jews to defend themselves thus adding a Word of Grace that will allow
them to a chance of life. This story reveals to us how the New Covenant adds grace to the
Original Covenant that is still hanging over humanity and cannot be superseded or annulled, not
even by the King. The Word of a King is standing forever and YHVH honours His Word above
His Name and Himself.
Ps 138:2 I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy Name for Your
lovingkindness and for Your truth: for You has magnified Your Word above all Your
Name.
YHVH extended grace by adding another decree / Word to His original Covenant to include the
Gentile Nations. He did all of this within the boundaries of His original Covenant without
making a change to or breaking His Word. YHVH is a Righteous God of detail and just like a
good Lawyer He sticks within the letter of His Word / Law / Covenant and do not breach any
part while working around our weaknesses in order to include us into His Kingdom.

61

Q How did He do it?

The curse on Israel caused them to be scattered among the nations, throughout all the people in
the world. This means that the 10 Tribes got mixed into the Gentile Nations, lost their identity
and forgot who they were, but YHVH did not. The people in the Nations blood has been mixed
in with the blood of the scattered people of Israel and they became eligible to be included in the
original covenant promises He made with Abraham, thus extending grace to them. He used these
10 Tribes of Israel to be as a NET cast into the Ocean or Nations that will be pulled back in
again bringing many people in these Nations to Him.
Satan thought he was winning causing the breakup and scattering in the first place but YHVH
used the BAD and turned it into GOOD through Grace. This is why YHVH extended Grace to
all people and sent His Son to die for all the nations because His people are interweaved with
ALL the people n the world.
One Shepherd vs. Many Shepherds
When Yshua walked the earth He could only reach a limited amount of people within a certain
physical location. He also stated that He came to the Jews (1 Tribe) first and will then reach the
nations after. In order to reach more people more effectively He decided to split Himself up
and scatter Himself among the Nations. This is done through His Spirit, the Spirit of Messiah
which He anoints many people across the world, in different timeframes with. This anointing is
the anointing of the Shepherd, the same anointing Yshua had that will equip believers to gather
back the lost sheep back to His FLOCK called Israel.
Q What is your thoughts about being part of Israel?
Israel consists of two words; Yisra El that means Straight ones of Elohim also translated
Righteous people of Elohim. YHVH is in the business to restore His people back unto Him,
including the 10 Tribes intermingled with the Nations.

Eze 34:11-16 For here is what YHVH Elohim says: I am taking over! I will
search for my sheep and look after them, myself. 12 Just as a shepherd looks after
his flock when he finds himself among his scattered sheep, so I will look after my sheep.
I will rescue them from all the places where they were scattered when it was
cloudy and dark. 13 I will bring them back from those peoples, gather them from
those countries and return them to their own land. Then I will let them feed on
the mountains of Israel, by the streams and in all the livable places of the land.
14 I will have them feed in good pastures; their grazing ground will be on the high
mountains of Israel. They will rest in good grazing grounds and feed in rich pastures
on Israels mountains. 15 Yes, I will pasture my sheep; and I will let them rest, says
YHVH Elohim. 16 I will seek the lost, bring back the outcasts, bandage the broken,
and strengthen the sick. But the fat and the strong I will destroy I will feed them
with judgment.
You are part of the Regathered where you are being gathered back and you have to know
where you fit into the Kingdom and know what YHVH expects of you being part of the
Regathering Work which you play and important part.

62

Olive Tree Branches Where do you fit in?

Back to Pauls Olive Tree analogy, where do you fit into the tree? Which
of the three Branches do you think you are part of?

Original Olive Tree Branch never removed

Original Olive Tree Branch that were grafted in
Wild Olive Tree Branch newly grafted in

From Scripture we saw the reason for the branches being removed but
there was one branch that stayed in tact the Jews also known as the three
Tribes represented by Judah, Benjamin and Levi.
There were some of them broken off and they returned to the Land after 1948 the Olive
Branches grafted back in.
Lastly we find the 10 Tribes that were scattered among the Nations who lost their identity and
memory that they were part of Israel. They mixed and intermarried with other Nations making
them the Wild Olive Tree Branch that are in the process of being grafted into the Olive Tree
known as the Nation of Israel, the Nation YHVH made and Covenant with and promised to
Abraham.
In the end after the Second Coming of Messiah, the Father, as confirmed in the Book of
Revelation, will divide us all back into our original Tribes and we will each one enter through
the gate with your Tribes name on.
Rev 21:10-12 And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain,
and showed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,
11 Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like
a jasper stone, clear as crystal; 12 And had a wall great and high, and had twelve
gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the
names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel:
Please note there is no mention of any Denominations name on these gates where the Catholics,
the Baptists, the Dutch Reformed or the Charismatics will enter into the City. Everything is
according to the original Plan and Purpose of what YHVH intended and it will be established
according to His Will and His Word.

Commentary on 1 Peter 3

Topics we discussed previously:
Suffering under Evil Rulers
Suffering of Messiah
The Shepherd of Souls
Things we are going to discuss in this study:
Submitting to Marriage
Married to a lost soul
$Qm: What does it mean to submit?

Submitting to Marriage
1 Pet 2: Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear (respect), not only to
those good and forbearing, but also to the perverse ones.

1Pe 3:1-2 Wives, likewise, be submissive to your own husbands, that even if
some do not obey the word, they, without a word, may be won by the conduct of
their wives, 2 when they observe your chaste conduct accompanied by fear
(respect).
Anything in life that is out of balance is made perverse by the dominant
side that cause it to tip over and loose its effectiveness or function.
Marriage is the same; it is a delicate balancing act between two very
intimate and involved personalities that must be keep that perfect
balance, avoiding perverting something so beautiful.
Submission is one of the off-limit words that can be classed as a
swear word by some due to its misuse and misunderstanding and can
ignite a lot of conflict in the relationship. Peter, talking within the
context of servants submitting to their Masters, weather they are good or evil, addressing the
married women to submit to their own husbands, weather they are saved or unsaved, on how the
unsaved husband can be won over by her conduct and submission. We will discuss this sensitive
topic of submission in more detail later on, but first, we need to look at the foundation of
marriage so that we can understand the balanced view on submission.

The Basis of Marriage

To look at the basis of marriage we need to go back right to the beginning and see where it all
stated. Marriage is first mentioned in Scripture in Gen 2:18-24 after the creation of Adam, where
YHVH fashioned the woman from the man to be his helper.
Gen_2:18,21-24 And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be
alone. I will make a helper suitable for him. (21) And YHVH God caused a deep
sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept. And He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh
underneath. (22) And God made the rib (which He had taken from the man) into a
64

woman. And He brought her to the man. (23) And Adam said, This is now bone of my
bones and flesh of my flesh. She shall be called Woman because she was taken out
of man. (24) Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave
to his wife and they shall be one flesh.
We will look at a few meanings of words used here to help us grasp the
true meaning and basis of the relationship between man and woman.
First of all, God let man fall into a deep sleep and took a rib from him
and made (build) it into a woman.
Rib: The Hebrew word for rib is tselah that actually means side.
The first two letters tsadik lamed, form the word tsale means
shadow or shade.
The more accurate word to use for translating tselah in this the
passage describing the creation of the woman is side rather than rib. YHVH might have
used a part of Adams flesh (the rib) to make a woman, but He took a side, or half from Adam,
(soul), to make the woman. YHVH the aspects of the human soul and split it in half and
moved half of the attributes to the woman leaving the other half of the attributes in the man.
YHVH uses the method of Creation and Separation in His handiwork when He created
everything and it is no different to when He created the man and the woman. Marriage is the
reuniting of the separated parts of the original Adam to become one flesh, forming the perfect
Human that is not alone.
Just like a woman is created form the side of the man, so is the Bride of Messiah created over
time form the rib or side of Yshua, the Groom. We came from the Messiah and are formed
from His flesh and His Spirit.

Differences between Men and Women

Men and women are different! You may
consider this rather self-evident fact, but
the differences are really important to
consider, since the trend of our day is to
minimize the differences, magnify the
likenesses, all in the name of equality. We
hear that women can do anything men can
do, and some women are fighting for mens
jobs to prove it. Clothing styles tend to
obscure the differences between the sexes.
The Biblical order of authority in the home is mocked by modern societies. Modern brides want
the word obey taken out of their wedding ceremonies because they think it reduces them to the
status of a slave.
Q - What do you think about equality between men and woman?
I think we should find out what God thinks and follow His advice on how He intended man and
woman to function in a marriage relationship. The prove is in the pudding, see how many
marriages ends up in divorce today because they have ignored Gods principle and plan for
marriage.

65

We will now go back to Scripture to look at a few differences between men and women so that
we can understand the differences and different roles each has to play in order to have a
successful marriage:

16 = 2 x 8, 8 = New beginnings & Life

26 Words describing the making of the

woman. 26 = YHVH (God)

Man got better deal to be married to the

better part.

Women are superior to men in their

functionality.

Generally speaking, men are physically stronger than women. They are guided more by logic
than are women, who seem to rely a great deal on intuition and emotion. Men are usually more
objective, women more subjective. Men are often realistic, women idealistic. Many men are selfassured, while women frequently need reassurance. Men seem to be more rigid in their thinking,
while women are often more adaptable and thus more susceptible to the influence of others. At
the same time, women are generally more sympathetic than men. They seem to be especially
interested in people, while men are more interested in things. The reason for this is because
Adam was made from the ground (things) and Eve or Chavah (life giver) was made from
Adam (people).
66

The man is the hunter in the relationship and the woman is the hunted. He is the one who takes
the first step and she plays hard to get. Adam was made outside the garden and Eve inside the
Garden; this is why the man goes out to work and the woman (normally) works inside the home,
raising the children.
Adam was the worker and guardian while Eve was the helper and completer; men (generally)
earns the living and protects his family, while woman helps and supports him in this, create a
home and raise the children.
The man is known to be the gender that has seed and the woman is the gender that cultivates that
seed and bring it to life through patience. A man has millions of seed more than once a month
while a woman only have one egg every month, and without that egg, there cannot be life. In the
same way we know that a man have a lot of plans, but it is that one plan that his wife help him
with that will come to life.

Woman has 10 more complexities than men

There are 16 words describing the creation of Adam and 26 words describing the woman. In
Hebrew thought this is telling us about the complexity of a woman appose to a man. The
number 16 is made up of two times 8 and the number 8 means life. It is the man that has seed
that gives life and he is the life giver or provider of the family. The number 26 is the same
number of Gods Name, the Yod Hey Vav Hey - Most commonly pronounced as
Yahweh . Each letter has a number and counts up to 26, that is (10+5+6+5). This does not say
that the woman is God over her husband, but is teaches us that the woman is more spiritually
open than men, where he is more physically orientated. Women are more complex and actually
superiorly made to men based on this aspect. Women have sexuality while a guy is just a guy.
This does not make the man a lesser gender but more fortunate, because he married the
better half.

Men are more Physical and Woman are more Spiritual

We have already discussed the two different souls within a human that
comes form two different Hebrew words that mean soul; the Spiritual
Soul, named nashamah, and the Fleshly Soul named nephesh.
Gen 2:7 And YHVH (LORD) God formed man of the dust of the
ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath (nashamah) of
life; and man became a living soul (nephesh).
When YHVH created Adam, He created him with a dual nature and he
consisted of both male and female personality attributes. Adams Flesh
was made from the Dust (nephesh) and his Soul was made from YHVHs
Image (neshamah). Then YHVH divided Adam into two parts in order to form Eve. These two
parts are known as man and woman and are similar to the two parts of your soul; the woman is
associated with the spiritual side of the soul (nashamah) which makes her spiritually more open
and the man is associated with the fleshly part of the soul, the nephesh, making men more
physically orientated.
Marriage is the process where YHVH combines and put these two distinct
parts back together again in order to form a perfect HUMAN again.
Mark 10:7-9 FOR THIS REASON A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS FATHER
AND MOTHER, 8AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH; so
67

they are no longer two, but one flesh. 9"What therefore God has joined together, let
no man separate.
Marriage is a boat and the woman is the sail and the man is the anchor. She is sensitive to the
Wind (Ruach Spirit of YHVH) and she motivates and gives the momentum in the marriage
relationship. The man is the rudder which gives stability and direction as well as the anchor to
put on the breaks if things go to fast. In order to know where to go, the husband must read and
know the map (Word) and the course to navigate them through their married life.

Women reflecting and opposing men

Gen 2:22 And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman,
and brought her unto the man.
The phrase and brought her unto the man is better translated as and brought her opposite
or opposing man. This implies that the woman is means opposer or resistor like a mirror
sitting opposite him, reflecting everything he directs and give to her.
It is the mans responsibility to fashion his wife and everything she is comes from him just
like in the beginning at creation. When she receives attention and love, she will reflect that back
to him and he will get attention and love from her. Woman are normally known to be colder than
men (if you know what I mean) and this is because the man expect cold sex when he has a
need without showing affection first. Remember that the man is the giver and she can only give
back what she has received.
She is also the oppose, the one who resists him, but in a good
way. Men have many ideas and want to change the world, but the
woman will support one idea and oppose the rest so that she can
cultivate that one idea with patience until it is born into reality. She
is the more sensitive one that has the internal wiring to know
intuitively when to support and when to oppose. Men are normally
blunt in this area and will run into various directions achieving
nothing.
This opposition needs to be understood and managed carefully
because it can cause conflicts that can even end up in divorce if
misunderstood or misused. Balance is the key to success with everything. Men listen to your
wives; YHVH gave them to you to help you succeed in life. Woman, support your husbands and
fill the gaps you see in Him covering them with love and patience.

Submission & Inner Beauty

1Pe 3:3-6 Do not let your adornment be merely outwardarranging the hair,
wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel 4 rather let it be the hidden person of the
heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very
precious in the sight of God. 5 For in this manner, in former times, the holy women
who trusted in God also adorned themselves, being submissive to their own
husbands, 6 as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, whose daughters you are if
you do good and are not afraid with any terror.

Q Why does a woman have to submit under her husband?
68

Peter talks about the inner beauty and how the womans perfection comes from the inside and
this is true since women are more spiritual than physical beings. When a woman only focuses on
her outward appeal then she becomes plastic and unattractive to most men. With this inner
beauty Peter explains on how she must adorn herself with submission to their husbands, is like
putting on beautiful priceless jewellery and fine apparel.
Q What is the real meaning of Submission, what do you see as submitting?
Q What is the correlation between Submission and Love?
Submission is related to obedience: Heb 13:17 Obey them that have the rule over you,
and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls.
Love is related to obedience: 2 John 1:6 And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his
commands.
Obedience is what brings Submission and Love to the same level, giving it equal weight.
The Scripture tells us that a woman needs to submit under her own husband and it also tells the
husband needs to love his wife.
Eph 5:22 Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23For the
husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church.

Eph 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and
gave Himself up for her
As we said, submission and love weigh the same as in their relationship to obedience. This
means that the principle of loving your wife is similar to the principle of submitting to your
husband, both having the same importance but each one comes from a different perspective.
Submission needs to come from the womans side and love needs to come from the husbands
side.
Submission determines who leads and who follows in whatever relationship arrangement, it can
be work, business, family or marriage, there will always be a natural leader and those who
follow.
Example: To explain this we will look at the family unit and the relationship between a mother
and her child. Parents are appointed by function to lead and teach their children and that implies
that the children should submit under their parents authority. In the same way should servants
submit under the authority of their masters just as we as believers should submit under the
authority of our Master Yshua. Yshua is known as the Greatest Leader that ever lived
because He served us unto death and gave Himself for us.
The person with the authority has the responsibility towards those whom he/she has authority
over because they are equipped to fulfil that authoritative function within the relationship. The
mother is equipped to have the leading role in her relationship with her child because of her
attributes, not because of her choice. The mother is equipped to do certain things within the
relationship with her children. This gives her the function to love and protect, to listen and to
know and fulfil their needs. The child, on the other hand, has needs and must be trained up to
become a responsible adult, giving them the function of submission. This puts the child in the
submission category within the relationship where he/she needs to obey their parent.
We see the two actions of obedience that flow, the mother listens and obey the needs of the
child and the child listens and obey the guidance of the mother. The first obedience is called
Love and the second obedience is called Submission.

69

The same holds true for the marriage relationship where the husband listens and obey the needs
of His wife and the wife listens and obeys the guidance of the husband. The husband LLOVES
his wife and the wife SUBMITS under her husband due to their created build-in functions and
attributes.
This is called the RELATIONSHIP CYCLE and is made up of these two actions, SUBMISSION
& LOVE, the one flowing from you while you receive the other. The key to a balanced marriage
relationship is to keep these two balanced and equal in weight, the one cannot outweigh the other
for example the man demanding submission from his wife without him loving her and tending to
her needs. If one or both do not exist in any relationship, then the relationship will not be healthy
and even destructive.

The Role of the Husband

We have looked at the differences between men and woman and why they differ and now we
will look at men and why the man is equipped to look after and protect his wife and
children. It is because of these attributes that he is appointed as the authority figure in the
Marriage Relationship. Paul gave us a good basis to work from comparing men to Yshua and
woman to the Bride of Messiah.
Eph 5:25 27 Husbands, love your wives, as Messiah loved the church and gave
himself up for her,26 that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing
of water with the word,27 so that he might present the church to himself in
splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and
without blemish.
The man has the role and function as the Priest of the home to lead and to teach his family,
including his wife, just like Messiah teaches His Bride, cleansing her with His Word. On the
other side of the coin we know that true leaders are servants, serving their people just like
Yshua served us even unto death.
The leadership authority men carries are embodied in their function as Priests and Leaders of
their families, giving direction being the one with the build in logic attribute, protecting their
families being equipped as the physically stronger one in the relationship. In order for that man
to take up his role as Priest and Leader of his family, his wife and children should understand
his function and submit under his priestly and leadership appointment made by YHVH.
When a man does not fulfil those two functions then there is nothing to submit under because
submission is to submit under the function, not the person (but there is an exception to this).
From this we conclude that the Man is the Authority Figure in function on how he is created and
equipped to love, listen and look after his wife in order to serve and protect her unto death, as a
servant to his own wife and family.

The Role of the Woman

Women are physically equipped to bare children and to nurture them but she is also spiritually
equipped to be more sensitive and intuitive. She has the ability to multitask and do lots of things
at the same time and is normally the one with more drive and momentum in the relationship
dealing with the husband and the children. As mentioned previously, she is the part of Adam
without the physical attributes or needs. She is more into relationships and has emotional
intelligence that the husband only have when she share that with him.
70

That does not make her superior but gives her a great responsibility towards her family.
With more your are blessed, more will be required of you. Care should be taken not to look
down on men because of these superior attributes but rather understand how she can fulfil her
half of the relationships responsibilities.
What she lacks is, logic, stability, direction, wisdom and physical strength. What she needs is
love, understanding, an ear to listen, provision, and protection.
From this we conclude that the Woman is the Submissive figure to serve her husband with
her superior attributes. Just like a Boss having people working for him, they collectively
know more and can do more than him but he gives the direction. She needs to listen to his
counsel, logic and wisdom based on YHVHs Word as well as to find comfort in his stability
where she receives his love and care so that she in return can create a place called home where
they can be one and function as a healthy family together, raising their children in safety. It is
easier to manage dirt than to manage people making the role of the woman more complex.

True Submission
To sum it up, true submission comes from both sides but in different forms and it is based on the
merging of these two diverse sets of attributes. This merging can only take place when we
serve one another in love and submission. To make this MERGING work each party has to
understand their function as well as the end goal or product and both has to give a 100% for the
Marriage to work. They both need to understand their differences and the reason for those
differences in order to avoid and manage conflict within their relationship. Let him be who he
needs to be and let her be who she needs to be and accept and support each of your
functions and roles within your relationship. These differences are complimentary to each
other because of the different functions and attributes that are build in each half, making a
complete fully functional unit (Perfect Collective Human Being).
True submission is to make yourself vulnerable to your spouse, realising that you truly trust
the other person knowing you spiritually, emotionally and physically. Knowing all your
strengths and weaknesses and has the ability to destroy you if he/she wants, that is key to a
successful marriage.

Married to a Lost Soul When to Divorce

There is one exception to the pervious statement of when the husband does not fulfil his priestly
and leadership role there is nothing to submit under because you submit to the function, not the
person. Peter explains this at the hand of servants submitting under their twisted masters relating
it to wives submitting under unbelieving husbands.

1Pe 3:1-2 that even if some (husbands) do not obey the word, they, without a
word, may be won by the conduct of their wives, 2 when they observe your chaste
conduct accompanied by fear (respect).

Q When can a husband and divorce his wife and a wife divorce her husband?
Divorce is the opposite of Marriage and is the act of dividing the two souls after YHVH joined
them together will damage each half permanently on one level or the other. Women can only
divorce their husbands if their husband has committed adultery, defiling their marriage.
71

If the guilty party remarries, then his/her new partner commits adultery as well. That is the only
reason for divorce according to scripture. (Matt 5:32, Matt 19:9). Scripture advise us not to
marry an unbeliever in the first place but you might have two unbelievers that are married and
one comes to faith, this is where this applies.
Scripture is clear around divorce and we should not break the marriage bond no matter
what. The reason for this is so that the other partner may come to faith due to the conduct of the
believing partner that will influence them positively, acting like Yshua would. This is what
Peter taught regrinding wives submitting under their unbelieving husbands in order to bring

Q- When can you divorce one another except for sexual sin against your partner?
1 Cor 7:15 But if the unbelieving partner separates, let it be so. In such cases the
brother or sister is not enslaved. God has called you to peace.
It is only the unbeliever that has the right to break the marriage between a believer and
unbeliever supporting what Peter is teaching, sticking with your unbelieving husband. Another
case where divorce is permitted is when the husband abuses his wife and / or children, then the
wife may divorce him on the ground of protecting herself and her children. These are the only
Biblical reasons to divorce your spouse.
