preseason,I'mreallylookingforwardtothestrengthofUdyrthisseason.

Overall,

Udyrisoneofthestrongestmidlategamechampionsthereis.Hisspeed,damageandtankiness

combinedmakehimadeadlythreattoalmostanyteamcomp.Let'sstartbylookingathisstrengths.
Greatclear,veryhardtobecounterjungled.MaxingPhoenixStancecontributestoUdyr'sincrediblejungle
clear.
Incredibleatsplitpushing.Udyr'ssplitpushingpowersareunparalleled.Oncehe'ssatedwiththisbuild,he
caneasily1v1andsometimes1v2ormoredependentonhowaheadheis,sotheenemyteamhasto

fewseconds.UsingBearStanceonanenemyputsa5seconddebuffonthemwheretheycan'tbestunned
again.Inteamfightsthiscanbeveryusefulasyoucanhelppeelbystunningtheirfrontline,andthendive
thebacklineandstuntheircarriesbeforeyouroastthemwithyourphoenix.
Oneofthehighestdamagechampslategame.Asyou'llfindoutveryquickly,thisbuildgivesyouoneof
thehighestdamageoutputsinthegameonceyou'resatedwithrageblade.Afterthatyoucangotanky,
butonceyouhityourpowerspikearound1520minutesdon'tbackdownfromfights,don'tbeafraid.
Prettymuchnoonecan1v1youtherestofthegameunlessthey'reinsanelyfed.
However,Udyrhashisdownsidesaswell,specificallyonemajorone:crowdcontrol.
Canbekitedbychampswithhighmobility/cc.Unfortunately,eventhoughUdyrhasmanystrengths,this
onethingcanbeamassiveproblemandisthemainreasonheisnotplayedmuchinLCS.Hereliesonface
tofacecombat,pummelingenemiesdownwithhisfists,butbecauseofthat,hecanbelockeddown/kited
fairlyeasily.Stuns,slows,fears,binds,silences,etcprettymuchallremoveUdyrfromafight.Thisiswhat
wehaveitemsforthough.Thereasonyoualmostalwayspurchase

Mercury'sTreadsisbecauseit

reducesthedurationofallcrowdcontrolby20%,whichisincrediblystrongforyou.Forteamswithalotof
crowdcontrol( Morgana, Leona,etc)orchampionsthathavedisableultssuchas Warwickor
Malzahar,buya

QuicksilverSashearly.Thatisonepurchasethatyouwillneverregretasitmakesyou

muchmoredangerousinteamfightsor1v1s.
Verymanadependent.Allofyourskillscostmana,andtoplayUdyrtohismaximumpotential,everyfight
requiresyoutorotatequicklythroughyourabilities.ThiscanrunUdyroomveryquickly,soyouneedto
keepaneyeonyourmanabarbeforeenteringafightandknowabouthowmanystancesyoushift
throughbeforeyoujustbecomeanautoattackingbear.Also,alwaystakethefirst2bluebuffsunlessmid
lanedesperatelyneedsthesecondoneasitwillhelpyourjungleclearandabilitytoganklanesimmensely.
Notastrongtowerdefender.Aspowerfulasyouare1v1,inorderforyoutowaveclearyouhavetobein
meleerangeofthecreepsforafewhits,thisleavesyouveryvulnerableincomparisontootherchampions
thatcanwaveclearfromfurtherback.Thismeansdefendingatoweragainstastrongeropponent(s)alone
willbeverydifficultforyou.

Masteries

Ifyou'regoingdevoureryouwanttotaketheFerocitytreeasitwillgiveyouincredibleamountsofburstdamage
midlategame.Fortunatelywiththenewmasterysystemyoudon'thavetosacrificetoomuchtankinesssinceyou
canstillput12pointsinresolve.

FerocityTree

Udyr also has more trouble ganking lanes compared to

other junglers like lee sin. His lack of dashes makes it
difficult for him to sneak around vision.

Furyistheonlyviableoptionwiththisbuild.The4%attackspeedis
allaroundfarbetterthanmagicdamagewhenyou'regoingsated

What percentage of the time do you get >5 kills in a

game? The point is that by the time the damage bonus
comes into effect, you're probably already ahead enough
so that the etra % damage doesn't matter. the 2.5%
increased damage however is applicable at all stages of
the game

upfordebate.The15%reducedcooldownofyourflashandsmiteis

Thereisalotofdebatewith Udyrastowhichsummonerspellsyoushouldtake.Inactuality,thereareveryfew
scenariosinwhichghostismorebeneficialthanflashonUdyr.Firstoff,youhavenoabilitytogooverawallsoany
timeyouneedafastescapetopreventdeath,orajumpoverbaron/dragpittostealobjectives,you'llbescrewed
withoutflash.Second,inteamfightsthereisnobetterwaytodisruptacombo/takeouttheenemycarriesthan
flash.Let'ssayforexamplethatateamfightstartsandtheenemyteamhasanMFwhostartstochannelherult.
Insteadofghostingandpossiblybeingcc'dalongthewaytoherandbeingdeadbythetimeyoureachher,you
justinstantlyflashontoher,stunher,andsaveyourwholeteamfromtheultwhile2shottingherwhileshe's
stunned.Orforanotherexample,let'ssaytheirteamhasakillerwombocombo(malph/ori/yasuo)forexample.If

with RefillablePotionsoupgradingitbarelycostsyouanythingandthesustainitgivesyouis
unparalleled.Keepinmind,thisitemisboughtAFTERyourdevourer,alwayspurchasedevourer
beforebuyinganythingelse.ManypeoplewillarguethatbecauseUdyralreadyhassuchgreat
junglesustain,it'sanunnecessarybuy.However,therearemanyreasonswhythatiscompletely
false,themainreasonbeingHunter'sPotionallowsyoutoprettymuchneverbackifyoudon't
wantto.Youstartwith5stacks,andeverytimeyoukillajunglecreature,itrefills1stack(if
you'reatmaxstacksitwilluseachargeonyouandthenrefillthatcharge).Andthebestpartis,
itrefillsyourmana.Soyoucanclearyourwholejungleextremelyfastandcomeoutwithfull
manaandhealthwith5stacksstillonyourpotion.Ithasatonofotherusesaswell:soloingrift
/dragonis10timeseasiersinceyoucanjustuseall5stackswhenyoustarttheobjectiveand
endupatfullhealthandmanaafterwards.Oryoucouldgankalane,losesomehealthfromthe
fight,butuseupyour5stacksandthengostraightbacktofarmingwithouthavingtoback.And
thebestpartiswiththisitem,youcanstartyourjunglefarmingat20%health/manaand
comeoutontheothersidewith100%healthandmanabecauseitbuildsstacksasyougo.
Withoutthisitem,ifyouwanttogainhealthinyourjungleusingturtlestance,it'llcomeatthe
costofallyourmana.Switchingbetweenphoenixandturtleisacostlywaytoclearyourjungle
withoutbluebuff,andwhatHunter'sPotionallowsyoutodoisusephoenixtoclearyourjungle
soyoucancomeoutwithfullhealthANDmana,allowingyoutocontinueontootherobjectives/

championswithhighmobility/escapeandlotsofcc:thisiswhereChillingSmitecomesin.Not

you( Rammus, Warwick,etc),orchampionsthatcansticktoanenemynomatterhow

DefensiveItems
IcebornGauntletisyourgotofirstarmoritemforafewreasons.Whatyou'relookingforin
yourfirstitemafterdevourer/ragebladeiscooldownreduction,mana,andtypicallyarmorunless
theenemyteamdoesn'thaveanythreateningADchamps.Thisiswhyalotofpeopleadvise
gettinga FrozenHeartasyourfirstitem.However,mostofthetimeyoursupport,oreven
sometimestoplaner,willendupgettingoneandyouwon'tneedtobuythisitem.Iceborn
Gauntletprovidesthesamemana/cdrandplentyofarmorbutgivesyouoneofthestrongest
passivesinthegameforUdyr.It'sthesheenpassive(bonusdamageonhitafterusingaspell)
butitalsocreatesanicyzonethatslowsenemies,thaticyzoneiswhatmakesthisitemso
powerfulonUdyr.Younowslowenemiesanytimeyouattackthem(sinceyou'reconstantly
changingstances),whichmakesit10timesharderforenemiestoescapeyourclaws.Because
yourelysoheavilyonclosecombat,thisitemhelpspreventyourbiggestdownfall:beingkited.
Andthatiswhythisisanessentialiteminthisbuild.
SpiritVisageisyourmainmagicresistitem.Itgivesyoualittlemorecdr,tonsofmagicresist
andhealth,PLUSapassivethatincreasesallhealingby20%.Becausewealsotook Runic
Armoryourturtlestanceisnowincrediblydeadly.Notonlydoesitgiveyouamassiveshield
