Research Methodology
Hypothesis: The present study has been undertaken with the following hypothesis.
H1: The work environment related factors have no significant influence on the occupational
stress related factors.
H2: There is significant correlation between work environments related factors and occupational
stress related factors.

3.5.3 Correlation Analysis between Variables
The coefficient of correlation expresses the degree of linear relationship between the variables.
The closer to zero (0) the coefficient, the less the relationship; the closer to one (1), the greater
the relationship. A negative (-) sign indicates that the variables are inversely related. Table-4
highlights the correlations between Variables.

The surveyed data was tested for correlation between variables with a sample of 60 railway
drivers respondents. Pearson correlation was performed to identify the relationship between
variables. The Pearson correlation value shown in above table-4 reveals a strong negative

(inverse) correlation between work environment and occupational stress with coefficient value of
r= -.745,
Regression Analysis:
Table-5 shows the simple linear regression analysis of occupational stress on work environment.
That is work environment is being used to predict occupational stress.

It is found from the model summary R (0.745), and R 2 (0.555) value of independent variable
(work environment) explains that there is strong causal relationship between independent
variable (work environment) and dependent variable (occupational stress). It indicates that the
correlation of variables work environment and occupational stress is significant and the linear
regression of occupational stress on work environment is also significant. It means occupational
stress is cause-and-effect of work environment. The value of R (0.745) and R 2 (0.555) obtained
from regression analysis indicates that the occupational stress depends mostly on work
environment in the case of Indian railway drivers. The Standardized Coefficients Beta value
(-.745) indicates that, there is strong negative (inverse) correlation between work environment

and occupational stress. The obtained higher t value (25.972) from coefficient table indicates
that the relationship between independent (work environment) variable and dependent
(occupational stress) variable is statistically significant. The obtained higher F value (72.48)
from ANOVA table showing that the proposed model is more significant.
