    KOLKATA:Thecountry'smajorreservoirsareat38%oftotalcapacity,latestgovernment
    datashows.At59.335BCM,theavailablewaterinthesereservoirs,asrecordedon
    February4,wasabouthalftheaveragecapacityayearago(78%)andthe10yearaverage
    of76%.
    Thetotalcapacityofthecountry's91majorreservoirsis157.799BCM,whichisabout62%
    ofthetotalstoragecapacityestimatedtohavebeencreatedinthecountry.Ofthese91
    reservoirs,37havehydropowerplantswhichcantogethergeneratemorethan60MWof
    power.
    Datashowsthatthewaterlevelsinreservoirsinthenorthernregion,whichincludesthe
    statesofHimachalPradesh,PunjabandRajasthan,arehigherthanayearago,butstill
    belowthelast10yearaverage.
    TherearesixreservoirsunderCentralWaterCommissionmonitoringwhichcurrentlyhold
    7.42BCMor41%oftheircombinedcapacity.Thecorrespondingfigureforlastyearwas
    38%whilethe10yearaveragewas44%.

    Thecountrysmajorreservoirsareat38%oftotalcapacity,
    latestgovernmentdatashows.At59.335BCM,theavailable
    waterinthesereservoirs.

    Intheeasternregion,whichincludesstatesofJharkhand,Odisha,WestBengalandTripura,thereare15reservoirsunderCWC
    monitoringwhichcurrentlyhold9.77BCMofwater,or52%oftheircombinedcapacity.Thestorageduringthecorrespondingperiodof
    lastyearwas64%whilethe10yearaveragewas59%.
    Inthewesternregion,the27reservoirsunderCWCmonitoringtogetherhold9.14BCM,or34%oftheircombinedcapacity.Thestorage
    duringthecorrespondingperiodoflastyearwas54%whilethe10yearaveragewas60%.
    Inthesouth,whichincludesAndhraPradesh,Telangana,Karnataka,KeralaandTamilNadu,thereare31reservoirsunderCWC
    monitoringwhichtogetherhold13.51BCM,or26%oftheircombinedcapacity.Thestorageduringthecorrespondingperiodoflastyear
    was37%whilethe10yearaveragewas49%.
    StateswherereservoirsholdmorewaterthanlastyearareHimachalPradesh,AndhraPradeshandTripura.Stateswherethelevelsare
    similartolastyearareAndhraPradeshTelangana(twocombinedprojectinbothstates).
