1- Flow Source Types

1

Open Automation Studio v5.6.

Right click on the Project1 icon under

Project Explorer, choose Save Project
as, enter File Name as Lab2, click
Save.

Right click on the Diagram1 icon,

choose Rename form the list and
change the Diagram1 name to Lab2-1

(Intentionally Blank)

Click on the Hydraulic branch;

Drag and drop components to insert them

onto the diagram and place them
approximately in their final location to
create the circuit A;

10 Connect components to each other to

complete the circuit;

11 Double-click on the pressure relief valve

and go to the Technical Data branch;

12 Input 450 in Bar as the Cracking

Pressure then click on the Apply and

Close buttons;

13 Start the simulation and notice that the

pressure gauge does not indicate more

than
400 Bar even if the pressure relief valve is
set to 450 Bar. Also, look at the flow
meter that should indicate 0 l/min;

14 Stop the simulation;

15 Double-click on the pump and go to the
Characteristic Curves branch;

16 Look carefully at these four curves. These

curves are corresponding to the volumetric

efficiency of the pump. Inside Automation
StudioTM, there are four different curves to
cover a greater range of nominal flow and
to easily interpret the volumetric efficiency.
All of these curves are suddenly dropping
to 400 Bar, this is the reason why the
maximum pressure that can be seen on the
6

gauge is 400 Bar. Into the reality, if the

pump is not pressure compensated, the
pump pressure will never stop increasing
until a mechanical failure occurred such as
a broken seal, a cracked case, etc, Inside
Automation StudioTM
this cannot be
reproduce for now and this is the solution
that has been found to stop the increasing
pressure on the pump;
Select all the components into the circuit
A and hold down CTRL to copy the circuit
on the right as circuit B;

Click on the pump of circuit B and hit

DELETE to replace the pump with one
with a shaft;

17 Open the Library Explorer then click on

the + sign beside Hydraulic branch

then on the + sign beside Pumps and
Power Units then on Unidirectional fixed
displacement.

18) Drag and drop the first pump called Fixed

Displacement Pump with Shaft and the first
component inside Engines folder called
Engine onto the diagram to complete circuit
B

The pressure gage may show the different

value based on your pump and relief valve
parameters.

The displacement of pump should

be 100 cm3/rev.
The Motor should be 1200RPM

10

11

The pump is under Unidirectional

Pressure Compensated branch.
Right click the connection line between
drain port of pump and reservoir to
change it as Drain Line

29) This pump is pressure compensated and includes

its own pressure setting (pressure relief value). When
the outlet pressure has reached the pressure setting,
the pump destrokes;

50.17

12

33) Start the simulation. The pressure should be

around 40 Bar on the gage.
