The Born
Legacy

The continuous excellence of the

Bachelor of Science in Electronics
Engineering program of Batangas
State University thus proves that the
quality of engineering education
of the university still rings a bell.
The
BatStateU
teaching
committee always looks for new
strategies of effective engineering
education instruction. One of these new
strategies is the Output-Based Education
system, otherwise known as OBE, which was
first implemented in the early part of 2012.
Through OBE, BatStateU engineering alumni will
be very competitive in their chosen field and will have
outstanding engineering and technical skills which they can
use in competing with the ever demanding global paradigm.
The OBE is far different than the conventional educational
system which was then implemented in the university. Before, the
system was more focused on what the instructors teach and share with the students. But now,
through OBE, classroom instructions will have emphasis on what students will learn and how
will they be able to apply those learning in real life situations. Moreover, hands on learning like
laboratory works, industry exposure, design and researches will be given utmost importance
through this new scheme of instruction.
The Interface commends all the people behind the University administration for the
overwhelming efforts they are exerting to upgrade the quality and standard of engineering
education in BatStateU. The university is indeed in sharp run in continuing the Pablo Borbon legacy
of uplifting outstanding and excellent engineering education capable of being recognized in
and out of the country.

As an academician, I

As much as possible, I
always want to pursue
classroom instructions and
activities that will make my

want them to be legendary

This is one of the reasons
why I was in deep joy
when I was informed that
the Bachelor of Science in

start the full implementation
of the Outcomes-based

academic year 2012 2013.

In
OBE,
curriculum
courses were mapped to the
student outcomes. This is one
of the recommendations

of the Phil. Technological

Council (PTC). With this, it
is understood that student
outcomes are aligned to
the program educational
objectives which in turn are
adherent to the university
vision and mission.
Likewise, syllabi were

their field.
But
throughout
this
preparation, I made sure
that the students were
deeply involved so they
may grasp what good this
may do to them. I have
invited them not just once
or twice in orientations to
emphasize the importance
of this accreditation in their
scholastic and professional
years.
And while we are
waiting for what the PTC
would grant to us, may
the students realize the
hardships of the department
for their welfare and reflect
through the process we
undertook.
In
the
aim
for
achievement, the grounds
to be strengthened must not
only lie within the borders of
the department but must
also extend beyond the hold
of the University. Likewise,
this must be related to how
the students must attain for
whatever they aim.
This continuous adjustment
will help students cope-up
with the new trends of the
global industry.
Moreover,
faculty
committees were created
to
manage
different
assessments and evaluations
of OBE elements like student
outcomes,
program
educational
objectives,
continuous
quality
improvements, curriculum
and syllabi review, and
examination/student
assessment review. These
reviews will make faculty
members aware of what
they must teach and to
which part of an instruction
they must most attend
to. This is necessary since
students and their outputs
will be the bases of this new
educational format.
I believe that the
implementation of OBE is
necessary for the university. Its
execution in the department
can help in realizing my goals
of producing outstanding
and legendary ECEs.

The end justifies the
means. I remember my high
school Social Studies teacher
dwelling on this statement.
She was asking the class
regarding our views on this
assertionwhether we agree
or disagree. During that point,
I at least had to compose
some agreeable arguments in
my mind. Those were the days
when class recitation means
a high school students life or
dignity, at least. I know that this
statement is from a well-known
man of history. That piece of
information gave me the only
ground for deciding that the
statement is acceptable.
Today, I dare say: the end
does not always justify the
means. Even if it implies that
I am against this great man
from that golden era, Ill firmly
stand for my conviction. It isnt
always true.

we all want are improvement

Though it might sound
as
an
overstatement,
development, as I see it,
especially when pertaining
to individual growth and
well-being, is the total
improvement of mans every
aspect.
When I said total, I
meant it as it is. A man,

distinguishes a learned from

We should strive to

Lets use the benefit of

Let us just not stick to what
we already have. Always

Perfection, though uneasy, is
still possible (even the closest

We know that college is

Revolutionary Technology
That May Change the World

Weve seen them in movies before; and during that time, these marvels were still imaginary and deemed impossible.
But thanks to the continuously improving intelligence and collective efforts of engineers, programmers, IT experts and
the like (even the common enthusiasts)! These technologies and gadgets which were once a dream have now come
into full throttle to change the world.
1. Google Glass

6. SmartThings

Google is taking steps

higher with the Augmented
Reality technology with
Google Glass. With Google
Glass, you can view social
media feeds, text, Google
Maps, as well as navigate
with GPS and take photos.
Also, you can get the latest
updates while you are on the ground.

With SmartThings, you can

get your smoke, humidity,
pressure and vibration sensors to
detect changes in your house,
track whos been inside your
house, turn on the lights while
youre entering a room and shut windows and doors when you
leave the house through your smartphone.
7. Firefox OS
Due to the limitations of iOS
and Android, Mozilla decided
to build a new mobile OS that
will focus on true openness,
freedom and user choice.
Here, developers can create
and debut web apps without
the app store requirements and
users could even customize the
OS based on their needs

2. Form 1
Form 1 is a personal 3D printer that
could forge your digital design into a
solid real-life product. Everybody can
create their own physical product
and prototypes based on their custom
design, and no approval needed
from any giant manufacturer.
3. Oculus Rift
The Oculus Rift is a 3D
headset that lets you mentally
feel that you are actually
inside a video game. In the
Rifts virtual world, you could
turn your head around with
ultra-low latency to view the
world in high resolution display.
4. Leap Motion
With Leap Motion
technology, you control
your desktop with fingers,
but without touching the
screen. More than this,
Leap Motion allows you to
scroll the web page, zoom
in the map and photos,
sign documents and even play a first person shooter game with
only hand and finger movements.
5. Eye Tribe
If you enjoyed playing Fruit
Ninja before, you can now enjoy
it even better as you slice fruits
using your eyes with Eye Tribe.
This technology uses eye tracking
technology that allow you to
control your tablet and play flight
simulator only with your eye movements.

8. Project Fiona
This is a serious gaming tablet
built for hardcore gaming that
features next generation Intel
Razers Project Fiona Core i7
processor geared to render all
your favorite PC games, all at
the palm of your hands.
9. Parallella
Parallella is a super and
energy-efficient computer built
for processing complex software
simultaneously and effectively like
smarter real-time object tracking,
holographic heads-up display
and speech recognition.
10. Google Driverless Car
The Google driverless
car powered by artificial
intelligence utilizes the input
from video cameras inside the
car, a sensor on the vehicles
top, and some radar and
position sensors attached to
different positions of the car.
So far the car has successfully driven 1609 kilometers without
human commands!

Haytek

11

(Sean Dominic Alegre)

Jeepney Thoughts
(Erick Espeleta, BS Mechatronics Engineering, Contributor)

To the poor man, continuance is an inevitable act; to the lucky man,

continuance is only an option. At a young age, Ive come to realize the concept
of continuance and what it is to me.
Fate has given me no other choice but to keep on walking without knowing
what lies ahead everything will be worth it at the end. With each step, I remind
myself not to leave any regret even if fate gives me the blurriest of all situations.
Ive learned to accept the fact that doubt will always be a foe and that what
I only have is what I could only use. No one would lift me up nor pull me to
make things easier. Nothing will be handed to me. With all that being said, I am
reminded everyday that life will always be a constant struggle.
Embracing all the struggles had been and is still the only way I know to get
by. Through these struggles, I have learned that an individuals true character
can be clearly defined when he is at his lowest point. Yes, life can be a real biter
sometimes, and Ive been beaten lots of times. To be forced to grow up faster
than everybody else, to always bend without breaking, to commit little evil to
benefit the greater goodthese things will never change and will always occur
and be a part of who I am. I am the poor man who is lucky enough to not live
a mediocre life.
My life will never be based on a song nor a book. My life will never be based
on twisted metaphors. My life will not be sufficed by the things that make others
happy. Ive treaded the rougher side of the concrete so no one could ever tell
me that my journey is pointless. It is a hard-knock life, and for me, realizing that
and knowing you can still continue is the most satisfying thing now. Arrogant as I
may sound, but this is the advantage of seeing life through my eyes.

Verilog HDL
(Dharwin M. Alvarez)

Designing a very large system is hard,

If you do not do it by heart,

AY 2012-2013

Coded
World
(Mary Emergieline D. Dela Cruz)

But if you choose to use Verilog for that;

Ease of design will be offered to you for
grant.
Verilog is a type of HDL,
With different description levels,
Switch, Gate, RTL and Behavioral levels,
Levels that make up the Verilog HDL.
If you want to describe a system in a
textual format,
Dont worry because you can now do that,

Unfathomable streams of lines

Alphanumeric, signs and symbols
Entered by the hands of the
creator.
Undistinguishable word mishmash
Combined together in a
program
And as when ran, creates a
world anew.

With just Verilog in your mind,

Your opportunity comes in choices so wide.

Android Drama
(Aileen M. Ereo)

I know that I look like a robot of no sense,

A robot you can play with,
A robot you can only see,
A robot that is maybe for display only.
I may be nonsense without the internet,
But I can give you Google for searching,
Facebook for social networking,
and YouTube for entertaining.
