Product description
The RELAZZO decking boards (and substructure) are made of high
quality polypropylene and at least 50% wood fibres from sustainable,
European forestry. This material combination of wood and polymer is
known as wood-polymer composite, or WPC for short. The WPC

Surface finish and colour
To increase the anti-slip properties of the surface, the RELAZZO
decking boards are roughened using a special brushing process.
Unlike solid wood or unbrushed decking boards, WPC decking boards
achieve an anti-slip classification of R11 (approval for public areas).
Above all, this process minimises the risk of an accident on wet
profiles. It is however to be borne in mind that the anti-slip properties
are reduced in wet or icy conditions.
The special surface finish also enhances the wood characteristic of
the profiles. Brushing is carried out uniformly in one direction, raising
the wood particles evenly. In order to avoid an irregular look, you
should ensure that all boards are laid in the direction of brushing. The
direction of brushing is indicated by the marking or arrow on the side.
On the opposite side in the hollow chamber or, in a solid profile, on the
outside you will find two ridges (see pictures).
However, you can also use the brushing to purposely achieve desired
visual effects.
2.4
Colour development
The RELAZZO decking board colours are UV-resistant. The colour
characteristics are therefore retained even in the case of intensive
weathering.
However, wood is a natural product and is subject to colour variations.
In the first few weeks there is a reaction of the substance contained in
wood, lignin, with the UV part of light. This causes a yellowing of the
wood fibres in the surface layers of the decking boards. This effect
may be visible prior to installation under certain circumstances.
However, discolouration that occurs in this way is washed out again by
the effect of water (e.g. rain) within the first few months. Discolouration resulting from the movement of objects (for example flower pots)
also goes through this natural process. You can accelerate this
process by spraying the surface with water within the first 8 to 10
weeks after installation (e.g. with a high pressure cleaner, see 3.2
Care tips, Basic cleaning).
The wood fibres then proceed through the natural process of greying.
Subsequent removal of the greyed fibres by means of high pressure
cleaning with a high nozzle pressure or by sanding the surface only
leads to a brief lightening of the wood particles. The process of
yellowing and greying then starts all over again.
The basic colour of the decking, which is derived from the dyed
polymer component, is nevertheless retained in the long term and
reflects the products colour character at any given time. However, the
discolouration described does not impair the mechanical properties of
the RELAZZO decking system in any way and therefore does not
represent a defect.
The raw material wood also means possible colour variations and
shadowing that enhance the natural wood appearance. When using
different batches, it is recommended that you mix up the batches, so
that this effect is used to its full potential. Due to the colour variations
described, samples provided can only be used as a guide for colour
selection. The individual batches are subject to the natural colour
variations of wood.

The brackets and screws are made from stainless steel V4A and the
existing test results confirm that the RELAZZO decking system is
suitable for use around the pool (in chlorinated air) and on the coast
(in salty air).

2.7
Physical properties
Certain materials rubbing against each other (e.g. rubber sole on
plastic flooring, this includes WPC decking boards among others) can
cause an electrostatic charge under certain circumstances (e.g. low
air humidity and dry profile) and cause sparks from static electric
discharge.
In order to avoid or discharge the static charge, the earthing of the
floor covering, the use of conductive and earthed jointing profiles,
antistatic mats or appropriate shoes and the shielding of electronic
components is recommended.
National standards, specifications, legislation, operating instructions
(e.g. electronic devices) or similar are to be observed.
2.8
Accident prevention
In order to rule out any risk of physical injury, the following advice
must be observed and followed.
In the case of point loads that exceed 300 kg, the components of the
substructure are to be laid closer together than specified (depending
on the laying direction).
The products do not have building authority approval and for this
reason are not to be used for self-supporting, structural
purposes. The local building regulations are to be observed accordingly (see 1.2 Area of application). The substructure must be
sufficiently load-bearing for the load.
In the case of wet, icy or other slippery conditions, beware of the
reduced slip resistance.
Due to the grooved effect on the boards, as well as the installation
joints (expansion joints), there is an increased risk of tripping when
wearing shoes with thin, pointed heels. This risk can be minimised
using various jointing solutions.
Lighting installation:
The installation and fitting of lighting elements (LED spots, etc.), fitting
electrical auxiliary devices, the connection and commissioning of the
whole system for low voltage is to be carried out by a certified
electrician.
2.9
Fire behaviour
The fire behaviour of the RELAZZO decking boards was tested to the
testing process DIN EN ISO 11925-2 and classified as follows
according to DIN EN 13501-1:2007:
Class Efl (construction products with normal flame-resistance)
Use for escape routes is therefore not permitted.
Practical information
3.1 Care/Maintenance
Due to their properties, RELAZZO decking boards do not require
subsequent protective coating treatment (oil, varnish) to protect the
wood as with solid wood products. There is also no need to treat the
boards with wood protection substances for mould or discolouration.

3.2
Care tips
As a result of the fact that the wood fibres are embedded separately
and under high pressure as well as temperature in a polypropylene
matrix, dirt cannot, or finds it difficult to get deep into the profile. Dirt
usually remains on the surface or is drawn in by brushing or rubbing
the exposed wood fibres. Polypropylene stands out in addition to its
positive environmental properties (e.g. no release of hydrochloric acid
and hydrocyanic acid during burning) due to high lightfastness and
chemical resistance (e.g. in comparison to PVC and ABS). Care and
maintenance of the RELAZZO decking boards is the responsibility of
the user.
Regular cleaning removes various deposits (dirt, bits of food,....)

Mould:
Warm water with detergent or chlorine cleaner (bleaching agent) helps
to combat mould/algae and fungi. For well-established mould/algae
and fungi several treatments are often necessary; special anti-mould/
algae and fungi cleaners are available from specialist retailers. We
would advise against using bark mulch in the immediate vicinity, as
this generally contains mould spores. Under certain climatic conditions
and where installation is not compliant with REHAU standards, fungal
growth is also possible. However, this risk can be reduced by keeping
the decking clean and dry. It is therefore important to ensure that the
decking (with gap spacing) and the substructure are well ventilated in
accordance with the official installation instructions.
Rust:
To eliminate spots of rust we recommend an oxalic or phosphoric
acid-based cleaner.
The materials supplied (brackets, screws...) made of high quality,
coated stainless steel are to be used to secure the profiles. Otherwise,
rust may form and damage the fixing components.
Snow and ice:
In order to prevent scratches on the decking, we recommend using
plastic shovels to remove snow; never scrape or hack away at ice with
an ice pick. General gritting salt can also be used to remove snow and
ice. Stains could occur when doing this, but are easy to remove.
3.3
Processing/Assembly advice
Please note the current installation instructions.
Processing:
The RELAZZO decking boards can generally be processed using
common woodworking tools. Drilling, sawing, milling and planing are
also possible in principle. However, due to the polymer content, a
reduced service life of the tool blades is to be expected. When sawing
(with a circular saw) a hardened metal saw blade with alternating
teeth is recommended. Clean deburring is generally advisable.
Construction:
The construction is dependent first and foremost on the sub-base.
This can be ballast, concrete or a sealed surface (flat roof), see
installation instructions. It is always to be checked that the subsoil is
sufficiently load-bearing to withstand the future load.
Ballast sub-base: The coarse ballast must first of all be well
compacted into a frost-proof sub-base (consult local building
regulations), in order to then be able to form an approx. 5 cm high
gravel bed on top of it, which is simultaneously created with a gradient
of 1-2 %. The substructure profiles are then laid on paving stones
(stone, paving slabs) in order to avoid stagnant moisture and fixed in
place using the assembly brackets or screws on the adjusting feet.
Concrete sub-base: A gradient of 1-2 % is to be created in the case
of a concrete construction. The substructure profiles are then laid and
fixed in place using the assembly brackets.
Note! If the substructure profiles are laid across the gradient, rubber
layers, paving stones (stone, flagstone) or adjustable feet are to be laid
underneath to avoid stagnant moisture. Overlapping of rubber layers is
to be avoided.
Edge finish:
The hollow ends of the decking boards can be finished with the
RELAZZO end caps, the aluminium end strip or the flexible finisher.
The end caps are to be glued flush to the boards with the RELAZZO
adhesive (see image). To do this, dust should be removed from the
adhesive surfaces using acetone. It is to be ensured that the ventilation/drainage slots retain their function and are not sealed by the
adhesive. In order to increase the adhesion force, it is recommended
to sand and/or apply primer to the contact surfaces (see material data
sheet adhesive).
When fitting the aluminium end strip, it is helpful to fix the supplied
spacer blocks to the end strip using instant adhesive.
The flexible end trim can be used to seal the decking boards even on
non-straight edges. To do this a groove is routed into the end of the
board with a router, the RELAZZO decking adhesive applied to the
barbed spacer block and the soft trim pressed into the groove by hand
or with the help of a rubber mallet.
Sealing the hollow sections reduces the amount of dirt or water that
can ingress into the cavities.
Visually all system components form an attractive and high quality
edge finish.
Jointing profile:
The joint cover profile is only resistant to being sprayed with chlorinated water. Frequent contact with chlorinated water can lead to
bleaching of, and damage to the profile.
No tension is to be applied to the joint cover profiles during installation.
Please take into account possible shrinkage of the joint cover profile of
max. 1 %.
3.4
Storage suggestions and handling
The decking boards and the substructure are supplied in timber frame
crates; the profile package is wrapped in film. Nevertheless, we
recommend storage in a warehouse or at least indoors in order to
prevent discolouration due to moisture and sunlight. If covered
permanently, discolouration, so-called mildew stains, of the decking
may occur. Opened packaging units and unused profiles are always to
be stored flat in dry conditions. Generally it is important to ensure that
work areas are clean in order to avoid dirt and scratches, etc.
If individual parts are stacked it is to be ensured that any damage to
boards and substructures is avoided.
