Automotive Vehicles
KIRAN D. MALI

Course Description:
Automotive Chassis Layout, Frame and body Construction, I.C. Engine Construction
and Components. Engine Cooling and Lubrication System, Fuel Supply System for petrol
and diesel Engine, Ignition System, Clutches, Transmission System, Drive Line System,
Steering System, Suspension and Shock Absorber System, Braking System, Automotive
Electrical System.
Scope and Objective:
This is an introductory course, covers fundamental in automotive engineering. It
emphasize on the major and important aspects of automobile engineering, including its
history, development, and current state. This course will cover study of main
components/systems of an automobile, such as an engine, transmission, drive-axle system,
suspension system, brake system, etc. The focus of the course will be on teaching the
fundamental working principles of above systems, there will be little calculation involved
in the teaching of this course. Students will also learn the performance along with working,
analysis and important aspects of various components of automotive vehicles. Overall this
course will help students to understand the basics.
The students will have an opportunity to get acquainted with advanced concepts
through projects, assignments, and lab/industry visits which will be conducted during
the semester.
