The Way the World Looks: That's what J.J. Abrams said
he wanted his cast for The Force Awakens to resemble.
Rey was conceived as a female protagonist from the getgo, but both she and Finn were written without any
specifications to race.
So I'm still on the Rey is a Skywalker/Solo train, but I find it
interesting they would say her race didn't matter.

Yep. We'd talked about that pretty extensively here when that
was announced during the Comic Con this summer. In the end I
kinda feel that either...
1. They see race as unimportant with regard to genealogy

Option 4: It's a half truth. Finn could've been any race,

but they knew Rey had to have some resemblance to
her mother and father, if they're who we think they are.

If you did a Morph (anyone remember that

program?) between Natalie Portman and young
Carrie Fisher, halfway in between you'd end up with
Daisy Ridley. If her mother or father is not a
Skywalker I'll be very surprised.

Ah. I wasn't part of this sub during the summer, so I

missed those discussions. This was the first I had seen
about Rey's race not mattering, but I knew Finn's didn't.
The Luke thing makes sense, but she'd have to be at least
1/2 white or at least look mixed, provided point 1 isn't true.
