Information Governance
1 - 2 July 2010, Novotel Melbourne on Collins, Melbourne

workshops - Friday, 2 July 2010

Workshop A: Gaining the support and funding you need

Registration: 8.00 am
Workshop starts: 8.30 am
Workshop ends: 11.30 am

Facilitated by: Ken Standfield, Chairman, International Intangible Management Standards Institute

About the workshop:

Information and knowledge are the life-blood of modern day organisations.

When information is inaccessible, reworked, duplicated, made obsolete, recreated or unshared significant amounts of time are wasted, employees
become disengaged, customer satisfaction drops, costs are wasted and revenue is lost.

In October 2008, the Economist Intelligence Unit published the results of an international survey of 192 senior executives on the benefits, challenges
and risks associated with developing an enterprise-wide information governance strategy. The report stated that the biggest global challenge is
identifying the cost/risk/return tradeoffs of managing information company-wide to gain support from department heads and line-of business
managers.

This workshop will introduce you to breakthrough techniques and methods to help you gain the support of department heads and line of business
managers by proving the financial value of what you do. You will look at:

óó Equipping employees with essential methods for controlling and reducing information and knowledge costs
óó Successfully implementing information governance initiatives through workplace sustainability and culture
óó Elevating your pitch for support to senior and line of business managers

About your workshop leader:

Ken Standfield is an author, international keynote speaker, consultant and acknowledged international thought-leader who develops interactive
web-based models that financially value the strategic impacts of information, knowledge, collaboration, culture, engagement and processes on costs,
revenue, retention and productivity. His models are used to prove the value of projects that enhance productivity, effectiveness and efficiency within
organisations.

Workshop B: Creating an information governance system within your organisation

Registration: 12.00 pm
Workshop starts: 12.30 pm
Workshop ends: 3.30 pm

Facilitated by: Joe Otway, Principal, Megaprime

About the workshop:

What and who needs to be included in the process of designing and implementing an information governance system? It’s one thing to hear about the
benefits of implementing something as important as an information governance system, but how do you do it?
This workshop will provide a scenario-based approach to creating an information governance system within a hypothetical organisation.

You will have the opportunity to:

óó Work in small groups to design and develop an information governance system for a hypothetical organisation
óó Explore the information governance requirements and concerns of the CEO, CIO and other key stakeholders
óó Develop the information governance system design
óó Develop an implementation strategy for the information governance system, including a balanced scorecard for measuring
strategy performance
óó Present your group’s solution and discuss it in an open forum context

About your workshop leader:

Joe Otway specialises in governance and management systems for information and ICT, including strategy and security. Joe has extensive inter-
national management and technical experience in system design, development, implementation, audit and information management. Joe applies
international standards and the recommendations of best practice authorities to help government and private sector organisations that are critically
dependent on information and ICT.
