Introduction

Do you believe that dreams will come true?

Dreams that I am talking about is not about the daydream but dreams that occur in sleep.
I do I believe that dream can come true.
In fact, my own sister dreams that our own house is made of brick, no longer wood and the main
door is located in the left side instead of the right.
Guess what? It comes true.
There was another time where I dream that I had to run nonstop in order to save my life from
monster, it so frightening.
I keep on running, and running but that thing keep coming after me.
Suddenly, I wake up.
My breathing is hard as if I have really been running nonstop and my body is sweating.
Furthermore, just this morning I dream that our lecturer said that there is no QMT test.
I fell like, ahhhhhhh, such a relief.
But then I woke up, could you imagine how frustrating I am?
My mom said that in Islam we can classify dreams into several types and each dream has their
meaning.
Thus, this entire situation led me to search for more information and making it my topic for
today.
Hence, here I am today to share with all of you about the three types of dream in Islam which
are the Ru’yaa, Hulum, and lastly the dream of one’s self.

Transition: Well, let me first start with the first type of dreams in Islam

Body

I. In Sunnah it is called as Ru’yaa or good vision while some Islamic philosopher referred to it
as the true or good dream
A. Ru’yaa is dreams which come true in real life as they were seen in the dream.

B. According to some Islamic philosopher such as the famous Sahih Al-Bukhari, these
dream come from Allah.

C. This dream is usually given to only His Prophets or the righteous people whom
follows His Prophets.

D. Furthermore, it is truer for the dreams of the Prophets as the dreams are the
revelation given by Allah and they are protected from the devil.

E. Do you still remember the story of the prophet Ibrahim who was ordered by Allah
through dream to sacrifice his own son?

1. This is an example to show that the prophets’ dreams are sacred and true.

F. Well, I know you must be wondering what about us who are just simple and not so
righteous people?

1. Not to worry, there are ways to experience the ru’yaa dream.

2. First, you should strive to speak honestly, eat ‘halal’ food, sleep in complete
purity facing the Qiblah and remember Allah until the eyelids drooping.

3. In Hadith, it is stated the most truthful dream are those that are seen at the
time of suhoor or the dream just before dawn, and some “Ulama” said it is
around 2 to 3 am.

4. The reason was that this is the time when Allah descends and when mercy
and forgiveness are close, and it is also the time when the devils are quiet.

II. Hulum or bad dream as stated in Sunnah is also referred as the evil dream. These dreams
is the second type of dream in Islam

A. Hulum is the result of the devils whispering or inspiration such that it is the game of
the devils to make a person distress

B. A person will most certainly having bad dream if they were, for instance, to eat so
much in the evening that tiredness and sleep overpowered and thus resulting going
to sleep without performing the evening prayer.

C. Another example of hulum is when a person is dreaming that the angels are telling
him to do something forbidden.

D. Worrying of having this kind of dream? there are ways to avoid from having this type
of dream
1. In Muslim verse, the Prophets advised that if you are having bad dreams, you
should spit to your left three times and prays for Allah protection from the
devils.

2. You should then turn over from the side which you are sleeping.

III. Finally, the last type of dream in Islam is dream of one’s self

A. True to its name these dreams come from one’s thoughts and are neither from Allah
nor the devil.

B. It usually happen due to the impact of unpalatable foods, over-exercise of one’s

imagination, or life experiences that might be reflected in one dream.

C. So, the third dream are of great importance since they constitute a very valuable yet
private picture of the state of health of our inner being

D. Such dreams function as windows to the soul, and in fact this was recognized by the
Swiss Psychologist, Carl Jung.

E. According to him, unfulfilled desires can lead to mental distress and can result to
inner disequilibrium.

F. As such the dream can reveal the nature of the distress.

Conclusion

I. I am sure that everyone wants their dreams to be the good dream, but have you do
what is necessary for it to be the good dream?

II. So, if you are having a dream, remember that that dream can be classify into 3
types.

III. And whether those dreams are ru’yaa, hulum or the dream of one’s self, you decide
it by yourself.
