INTRODUCTION

The objective of this lab, investigate the surface static pressure

on a NACA- 0015. Conduct the investigation at various flight speed
and angle of attack. The surface pressure found from the lift, drag and
pitching moment define the NACA-0015s performance.
THEORY
The figure below contains all the convention used in this lab. The
airfoil, aligned with the x,y coordinate as shown. Here, the normal force
(N), A the axial force, R the resultant force, L and D the lift and drag
respectively. The airfoil surface, defined as the normal (N) and the
tangent (t) vector.

n =sin ( )i+cos ( ) j and t =cos ( )isin ( ) j

Eq 1
The , the angle between a line tangent to the airfoil surface
and the positive x-axis or the angle between a normal line and the
positive y-axis. The clockwise direction consider positive. The angle
must be with -1800 and 1800 to obtain proper orientation.

The sum of the normal pressure(P) and tangential shear force ( ),

the total resultant force of small region ds.

n ds+ t d s
d R=p
Eq 2
In this case shear stress consider small, so it can be take as zero. The
total force of the pressure can be found using integrating around the
entire surface of the airfoil
= p n ds= p (i sin ( )+ jcos ( ) ) ds

The axial and normal force component
R A = pdy and RN = pdx
Eq 4
The integration above, conducted in a close loop in the clockwise
direction about the airfoil. The perimeter of the integration, from

Procedure
The experiment was performed with an adjustable angle of attack
NACA 0015 airfoil mounted inside the test section of a small subsonic
wind tunnel. Twenty one pressure taps affixed to various locations on
the airfoil were connected to an inclined manometer. The experimental
procedure used is listed below:

The given symmetric was held in the wind tunnel and the trailing
edge was adjusted to an angle of attack of 00

The baffle setting was adjusted to 5/5 position and the wind
tunnel was then started.

The corresponding inclined manometer readings were recorded

for all the pressure taps and also the inlet velocity was calculated

using the static pressure manometer reading at test section

inlet.

The trailing edge was then adjusted to angles of 10, 12,

14, 16 and 18 and Step 3 was repeated for each angle.

The atmospheric pressure and temperature were recorded from

the scale in the room.
