LANGUAGE FUNCTIONS: - talking about past activities or telling stories by using past simple
-Asking and giving information about past activities
ASSUMED KNOWLEDGE: - Ss are familiar with most of the vocabulary presented in the lesson.
ANTICIPATED PROBLEMS: Ss might find some difficulties in using the second form of the verbs (
T will clarify pronunciation issues and hand them out a short list of the most commonly used
verbs);
AIDS / MATERIALS: student book; notebook, blackboard, CD player and class CD, pictures ?,
worksheets
EVALUATION oral and written
ACTIVITY 1: (warm-up)
Aims: - to check Ss homework ???
- to introduce the new topic of the lesson by means of questions
- to develop speaking skills
Timing: 10'
Interaction: T-S
Procedure:
- some Ss read out their homework and all students make any corrections that are
needed???
- T asks the Ss some questions (How are you today? / Did you sleep well last night? / Do
you usually dream at night? /What did you dream last night?)
ACTIVITY 2:
Aims:
Timing: 10
Interaction: T-S, S-S
Procedure: - Ss are told by the teacher that they are going to listen a story about a hare and a
tortoise, a race and winners and losers (on this occasion the teacher presents the vocabulary T
writes the words on the blackboard). T asks them to guess the winner of the race between the 2
characters. Ss give their answers.
- T plays the class CD with the story. While listening the story the teacher writes on the
blackboard the past activities mentioned there.
After listening the story the Ss are asked to say who won the race.
- Ss are asked to open the pupils book at page 64 where they can find the text of the
story they have listened. Based on the text they are asked to read quickly again the text
for specific information that they need in exercise 2 on page 65 where they need to say
who did what in the story (the hare or the tortoise) pair activity
ACTIVITY 3:
Aim: - to offer information on the way past simple is formed when taking about past activities and
regular and irregular verbs
- To allow Ss to practice the usage of the past tense simple
Timing: 15
Interaction: T-S, S-S
Procedure: - T gives the Ss a short list of verbs with all the 3 forms (explains the Ss that there
are 2 types of verbs regular and irregular, that all verbs have 3 forms, and the fact that the list
given includes the regular ones)
- T shows them the verbs written on the blackboard during listening (the ones expressing
past activities) and asks them to identify which form of the verb is written on the
blackboard (T asks them to check the verbs in the list given). The T elicits the fact that
those activities refer to past actions.
- T asks Ss to identify on the list the past form of the verbs given, then T asks them to
find a common element for the second form of the verbs in the list. Ss give their
answers.
- T elicits the fact that past tense for affirmative actions is formed by adding the - ed
ending to the short infinitive ( 1st form)
- Ss are asked to give examples of activities they performed yesterday. Pair work (each
pupil tells his/her colleague about their past activities 3 activities each)
ACTIVITY 4:
Aims:

Procedure:
- Ss are grouped in 4 and are given some cards. They need to put, at their own choice,
the cards in order of the story and then to make up the story (they need to write the
story on a piece of paper).
- Ss relate their stories.
Activity 5:
Aims: - to assign homework
Timing: 2
Interaction: T-S
Procedure: - T assigns the homework. Ss have to write the story of their funniest dream that they
had.
Extra activities:
If there is any time left the T plays the class CD with the story of Lulus dream and after they
need do exercise 5 on page 65 from Pupils book (based on the story they listened).
