The Shocking Changes of Teenagers Today

Have you ever noticed all the different changes of the teenagers of this generation? Adults had been
wondering happen to this generation. As if there is a huge gap with our generation and their generation
that adults were having a hard time coping with teenagers today. It is very clear that a lot of things have

changed in our surroundings today. Almost everywhere has changed, especially the material things like
the latest models of a different electronic devices like cellular phone and computers. Due to technological
advances, a lot of things have changed. These changes have several beneficial effects, however, there are
things that are going overboard and getting out of hand as teenagers today have a lot of negative changes
in terms of behavior, values and preferences compared to the older generation.
According to the Wordbook dictionary the word change comes from the old French word changier, from
late latin cambiare, from latin cambire to exchange barter, of Celtic origin from proto-Indo-European
base kamb, to bend. But the modern definition means an event that occurs when something passes from
one state or phase to another. My definition of change is the modifying of anything real or not real into
something new or different from the usual, temporarily or permanently losing one or more of its
characteristics or use. An example of my definition of change is: teenagers before are well mannered
unlike the todays teenagers today become spoiled and unruly.
One of the negative changes of the teenagers today is the change of behavior. One example of the
changes of behavior of teenagers, teenagers of today are more lenient in their studies compared to the
older generation. teenagers tend to copy and paste their assignments in the internet without even reading
the article or book unlike the older generation whenever they have assignment they will go to the library
and look at the card catalog and read every related book in the shelf .And instead of studying after school,
teenagers today will just either hang out at the mall or in the computer shop playing Dota. compare to the
older generation during recess time people read books in the library and the library is full unlike today the
library is always empty expect for the time when exams hits. In addition to that teenagers today commits
more crimes around them compare to the older generation, and the reasons to prove why teenagers of
today commits more crime than compare to older generation. According to the youth facts, an
organization that gives statistics about juvenile crime rates, teenagers in 2005 who got into group fights is
about 19% comparing to the teenagers of 1975 who got into group fights it is only about 17% which is
2% less than the teenagers of 2005. And the teenagers of 2005 who deface a school property is about 19%
comparing to the teenagers of 1975 who deface a school property it is only about 18%.which is 1% less
than the teenagers of 2005.
Another negative change of the teenagers today is the change of values. One example of negative change
of the teenagers today is the change of values. Teenagers today are now accepting same sex relationship
than the older generation. And according to the institute for global ethics, an organization that gives
information about different ethical stands , about 59% of the teenagers of today says it now ok or
acceptable to have same sex relationship which is a huge difference because only 31% of the teenagers in

1989 said it is okay to have same sex relationship. Another example of the teenagers today is the change
of values; Teenagers today are more likely to smoke than the older generation according to the news
article of the inquires.net. In 2011 about 50.8% teenagers ages 13-15 said that had tried smoking at least
once is while according to the Social Weather Station (SWS), an organization that provides different
research institution. In 1996 about 20% of the teenagers said ages 13-15 that tried smoking at least once.
And the final negative changes of the teenagers today are the change of preferences. One example of the
negative changes of the teenagers today are the change of preferences. Teenagers today are more
materialistic than the older generation and according to San Diego State University about 62 percent of
the teenagers in 2005 said that they are more materialistic along with they think its important to have a
lot of money, while 48 percent of teenagers in 1978 said that they are materialistic along with they think
its important to have a lot of money. Another example of the negative changes of the teenagers today is
the change of preferences; teenagers dont want to work hard. According to San Diego State University,
39% of the teenagers said that they dont want to work hard, compared to the teenagers of 1978 only 25%
said they dont want to work hard.
In conclusion a lot of negative things have changed especially in the behavior, values and preferences in
life compared to the older generation of teens. And, it is not too late to change that as early as now we
might fix or change the negative changes of behavior, values and preference, before the things get worse.
Since these youths are the next future leaders of the world.
