The Road to Damascus

(Acts 9:16)
The disciples continued to be a witness for Jesus throughout Jerusalem,
and many believed what they taught and joined them in their beliefs. Some
religious leaders, who had not believed in and followed Jesus, became
jealous and had the apostles1 arrested and thrown in prison.
However, God sent His angels to free the apostles. You can read that
story here: Miracles in the Bible: An Angel Opens Prison Doors for the
Apostles.
One of the religious leaders, a Pharisee named Saul, was very angry
with the disciples and received permission from the high priest to go to
Damascus to capture any who followed Jesus teachings.
When he neared Damascus, a light from heaven suddenly shone around
Saul, causing him to fall off his horse. Saul heard a voice saying, Saul,
Saul, why do you persecute Me?
Saul answered, Who are you, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus
whom you persecute.
Trembling, Saul asked, Lord, what should I do?
And the Lord said, Arise, and go into Damascus, where you will be told
what to do.
Apostles is the name Jesus gave to a select group of His disciples (Luke
6:13).
