After getting involved in Drexel SWE my freshman year, I cant believe Im finally a senior.
SWE has made such a positive impact in my
life. I hope that many other SWE members can
experience how SWE can help them obtain
their personal and professional goals. Over the
past four years, Ive worked with over 55
Drexel SWE officers and met even more members. Im so proud of everything that the officer

membership committee
Fall term was a great success for membership!
We started the term with our first General
Body Meeting, hosting over 80 members, new
and old. We shared dinner, learned about
SWE, and played a word guessing game. At
GBM 2, members had the chance to suggest
ideas to SWE and to tell us what were doing
right so far. Sophomore electrical engineering
student, Amy Shapiro, recommended that we
try harder to learn each others names because,
well, thats important! At GBM 3, we personalized name tags and played a successful name
game. Amy explained, As hokey as name
games can be, I appreciated the chance to learn

In November, they showed their creativity
through our Craft Night, where they painted
and decorated frames. There was also pizza
and salad for dinner. We would like to thank all
the mentors and mentees who were able to
attend these events and make them successful.
outreach committee
The Outreach committee hosted two events
this past Fall term to promote STEM for
middle school aged girls. The first event,
Programming in Python, was hosted by SWE
volunteers; it introduced six girls from diverse
academic backgrounds to simple programming
basics, including: data types, loops, strings,
and if statements. The second event, the

Welness committee
During the fall term, Wellness kept busy with
continuing old events and also trying new
events. We continued the Saved Me dog
shelter visits! We take a group of girls to a dog
shelter for an hour or two hours and help walk
the dogs, play with the dogs, and take care of
them in whatever way is needed. This helps
girls get their minds off of school for a little and
also involve them in community service. We
also continued our Finals SWEek Massages
event. This event brings three professional
masseuses to Drexel and allows for women
engineers to get a free massage before they
have to start studying for finals! A new event
was hosted by Drexel called Meditation in
Challenging Times. We encouraged our SWE
members to attend this lecture by Amy Edelstein. She trained at the Dalai Lamas monastery in India and teaches that mindfulness
practices are foundational inner strength
training techniques. A new idea the Wellness
Committee tried was getting a group of members to go to a Drexel Group Exercise Class that
was out of the ordinary. Lexi, Wellness Director, was a first-timer going to these classes and
encouraged ten first-timer girls to join her in

Drexel sweet summit
Drexel University hosted the Region E SWEet
Collegiate Leadership Summit, which was an
enriching, valuable, and fun experience! The
SWEet Summit is an event where collegiate
sections learn various professional development and leadership skills. It is a fantastic
networking opportunity! Attendees from
Drexel University, Rowan University, Widener
University, and Temple University were present and got to network with one another and
learn more about how their individual collegiate sections work. Tips and tricks were
shared with one another in order to improve
section organization. One of the objectives of
SWEet summits is to increase engagement of
collegiate sections & leaders. Claire Dvorak, a
Collegiate Leadership Coach, shared many
valuable lessons and engaged us with interesting activities including personality tests. We

The one session that stood out a lot to me was the "milk
and methane" lightning talk.. This was particularly
interesting to me for a number of reasons...
1) The woman who spoke worked for caterpillar, and
their technology that breaks down cow poop into fuel is a
large-scale version of the same thing a farmer in costa
rica used during a trip I took to Costa Rica my freshman
year. It was awesome to see this applied in totally different situations and parts of the world.
2) Methane/meat industry pollution is something I am
particularly interested in and was inspired to continue to
look into this not just as a personal concern but as an
engineering dilemma that i could possibly help solve.
3) My 1st co-op worked with a similar technology to the
cow-poop-to-fuel-machine... Except the machine I
worked on used woodchips and produced oil. Again, very
cool to see that what I am doing now can and will be
relevant in my future.

Career fair
The annual WE Career Fair is one of the largest
in the world, drawing together more than 300+
employers, recruiters, and program directors to
hire the next generation of engineers. This
year, names such as Northrop Grumman, IBM,
Intel, and ExxonMobil for two days of intensive
recruitment, though the process began long
anyone arrived at Nashville, TN. Months before
the conference, Drexel SWE attendees prepared with resume critiques and company
research, utilizing the online SWE career portal
and resume upload tool. By doing so, their
resumes directly reached employers, driving a
few to set up on-site interviews with Drexel
attendees at the conference. Many other
attendees secured interviews for both full-time
and co-op positions while at the career fair,
resulting in two job offers within the group!
Aside from employment, the WE Career Fair
benefits attendees by immersing them in professional networking. In seeing the thousands
of other competent candidates at the Fair,
attendees are motivated to define their employee excellence and compete for highly valuable
The career fair was amazing! I spoke to a lot of representatives that were interested in me and I am following through with them for possible co-op positions.
I also learned a lot about companies that I never heard of, and companies that I
never considered to be an engineering opportunities.

SWEFL & Collegiate leadership institute
The SWE Future Leaders (SWEFL) program
started in 2006 to improve the pipeline of
collegiate leaders. Individuals are nominated
for participation in the SWEFL program and,
when selected, attend the annual Collegiate
Leadership Institute (CLI). At CLI, SWEFLs
receive training on both SWE and leadership
topics, such as business etiquette, personal
brand, and communication. SWEFLs also have
the opportunity to network with collegiate and
professional members from across the country.
Maissoun Ksara, Public Relations Director of
Drexel SWE, was 1 of the 22 girls selected from
across the country for this honor of SWEFL
FY16. Danielle Schroeder, Vice President of
Drexel SWE and also the FY16 Region E RCCE
also had the opportunity to attend CLI.

Celebrate SWE! & closing keynote
On Saturday night, conference attendees
donned their best, some wearing ball gowns,
most sticking to semi formal attire. Over
dinner, attendees celebrated SWE achievements including winners of collegiate competitions, professional section awards, collegiate
section awards, the hosting section for next
years conference, society updates, and a closing keynote. The closing keynote was given by
Maria Fernanda Mejia, a recognized global
leader who was named one of the 50 most
powerful women in Mexico. Mrs. Mejia shared
her perspective and experiences on her professional career path to become a global leader.
Drexel SWE attendees bit their nails, hoping
that their hardwork and dedication would
result in winning one of the prestigious collegiate awards. Their efforts were not for
nought as the section was recognized as a Gold
Level- Outstanding section for the third year in
a row. Samantha Schneider, accepted the
award from President Colleen Layman on
behalf of the Drexel section.
