HEALTH IS WEALTH

Health is the complete state of physical, mental and social well being.

INTRODUCTION

The world we live in today is full of stress and tension with cut throat competition all
around. The winning strategy does not just revolve around the intellectual genius. A
firm and healthy body is equally important to support and sustain the functioning of
the mind. A fit body goes a long way in enhancing our performance.

Fitness of the body depends upon three major factors

PHYSICAL NUTRIENTS

What should a balanced human diet contain? Basically macronutrients

(carbohydrates, fats, proteins) and micronutrients (vitamins, minerals, fibre)

Carbohydrates: - carbohydrates are the principal energy sources in the body. 1

mole of glucose can release 686Kcal of energy.

Fats: - it is an important storage form of food which also produces energy. it

provides insulation made. 1 mole of fat produces 9.45 Kcal of energy.

Proteins: - proteins provide chemical materials for the growth and repair of the
body cells and tissues. In time of emergency they may also be oxidized to release
energy.

Vitamins and Minerals: - Vitamins and minerals are required for various biochemical
reactions to derive energy from food, transport oxygen etc.

Fibre: - Increase solidification and softening of faeces, reduces level of cholesterol

and glucose in blood.

All three macronutrients and micronutrients in proper quantity according to the

requirement of a person is called balanced diet.

ENERGETICS

Many health problems are carried on from parents to the offsprings through the
genes like anaemia, sickcell, colour blindness, haemophilia etc.

EMOTIONAL NUTRIENTS

EMOTION- our mental state of mind has a direct link with our health. Emotion like
fear, anger, hatred etc influences our health like increase in blood pressure, cardiac
problem.
Where positive thoughts and moods have a positive effect on our health. For
example laughter triggers the release of endomorphins , the body’s natural pain
killer and produces a sense of wellbeing. It also activates body’s immune system.

Environment: - A good hygienic environment keeps us away from cholera, malaria,

dengue and fever, jaundice and other water and air borne diseases.

Due to rapid increase in air pollution number of cases of asthma, bronchitis,

pulmonary disorders has touched the peak.

FOOD EATING HABITS

DON’T LIVE TO EAT, EAT TO LIVE

Healthy eating and an active lifestyle should be a way of life.

Dos

1. Start your day with a good nutritious breakfast.

2. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables and drink lots of water

3. Eat slowly and chew food properly

4. Take drinks like buttermilk, fruit juices, jal jeera, curd etc

5. Choose low calorie dishes as far as possible

DONTs

1. Avoid junk foods like samosa, chilps, pizzas, burgers etc.

2. Avoid nibbling between meals

3. Avoid combining eating with any other activities.

4. Do not stock your refrigerator with goodies like chocolate, chips, ice creams
etc.

5. Avoid cokes, soft drinks, cocktails and mocktails.

If these minute factors are not taken care of then it leads to severe health problems
like obesity, diabetes mellitus, cancer, cardiovascular diseases, skin disorders,
chronic degenerative diseases.

STAY FOCUSED ON BEING HEALTHY AND NOT THIN

Physical Activities: - body fitness is not just the domain of athletes and sports
persons. Whether you are a school student or teacher, an office worker or a
housewife, fit body goes a long way in enhancing the performance.
BENEFITS

1. It detoxifies our body

2. Doubles our heart beat and helps in blood purification.

3. Burn calories

4. makes us more enthusiastic and energetic

Moderate amount of exercise can produce substantial health benefits. These are
basically of three types.

1. Endurance (swimming, bicycling, walking, jogging, etc.

2. Flexibility-(gentle body use, stretching, yoga postures.

3. Strength exercises, activities against resistances to have strong muscles and

bones

Here many of you can be seen sitting with your slouch postures. Many working
young mass sit with their laptops and computers with slouch postures. Have you
ever guessed its dire consequences? Research has shown that bad postures can not
only cause back pain but also Carpel Tunnel syndrome (which is a form of inactivity
of brain)

IMPORTANCE OF SLEEP- TIRED NATURES SWEET RESTORES

Sleep is a natural state of rest characterized by reduced body movements and

decreased awareness of surroundings. Proper sleep is extremely essential to
maintain a good health.

Due to a hectic life schedule, people tend to deprive themselves of required amount
of sleep which leads to serious effects on thermoregulatory, hormonal, cardio
vascular and neurological systems.

Lack of sleep leads to grogginess, irritability, loss in concentration, decreased

perception, etc.

USE OF HITECH GADGETS

Today life without a television, mobile, computer, etc. seems impossible. but are we
aware of the negative consequences?

Scientists have discovered that exposing human endothelial cells (which line the
minute blood vessels in the brain) to mobile radiations can damage the blood brain
barrier. Children may be more vulnerable due to their developing nervous system.
They absorb micro-waves upto 3.3 times the rate of adults. In extreme cases it may
lead to ventricular fibrillation, muscular tantrums, respiratory failures, etc. though
such consequences are not yet confirmed, yet many researches are going on in this
regard.

Besides these, indirectly many elements are used in wireless technology like lead,
beryllium, arsenic, mercury, antimony prove to be toxic to our biosystems.

INFLUENCE OF DRUGS

MENTAL STATE

DISCIPLINED LIFE

With the increasing pace of the world we need to maintain a disciplined schedule to
remain healthy and fit. Following a few age old proverbs can prove to be highly
beneficiary:

1. Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise

2. Fix timings of breakfast lunch, dinner

Proper diet, health checkups, regular exercises, yoga, pranayam, other therapies
like acupuncture. Acupressure, etc can increase the longevity of a man.

SOME RECENT SCIENTIFIC DISCOVERIES/RESEARCHES/AMAZING FACTS

 Aircraft noise can boost blood pressure when you are asleep. A finding
suggests people who live near airports may have a greater risk of health
problems.

 It is a well known fact that Ultraviolet rays can damage our eyes. But
researchers say that blue light might also be harmful leading to age related
muscular degeneration.

 Office goers who spend long hours at their desks may be prone to fatal blood
clots.

 Black soyabeans could be a key weapon to fight obesity.

 You can reduce your ageing process by restricting your calories.

 Studies on rats have shown that sleep deprivation leads to death within
weeks.

PROGRESS OF SCIENCE AND MANKIND

The pursuit for luxurious yet healthy lifestyle by mankind has still a long way to go.
Scientists are planning “green cities” having all kinds of modern facilities along with
proper health care systems.
Researches in other upcoming fields like Nanotechnology, Microbiology,
biotechnology, Agricultural Engineering, Vaccinology, etc are bringing out newer
solutions to the existing health problems related to technologies.

However any new technology carries an ethical responsibility for wise application
and recognition that there are potential unforeseen risks that may come with the
tremendous positive potential.
