From the Pastor’s Desk
My Dear People:
Today begins the holiest week of the year.
The reading of the Passion of Jesus reminds
us of the Lord’s willingness to reach beyond
our imagination in the process of making an
offering to the Father for our sins.
The Tridiuum starts on Holy Thursday when
we celebrate the Lord’s Supper. There will
be a Mass at 5:00 p.m. for the elderly and
anyone else who cannot come at 7:00 p.m.
The full ceremony of the washing of the feet,
procession and adoration will occur at the
7:00 p.m. Mass. This liturgy commemorates
the institution of the Sacrament of the
Eucharist and the institution of the
priesthood. The Eucharist continues the
offering of Jesus on Calvary until the end of
time. St. Paul said, “As often as you do this,
you proclaim His death until He comes.”
Good Friday is literally called “good,” even
with the brutal and violent suffering of Jesus,
because it was “good” for us. By Jesus’ act
on this day our sins can be forgiven. We
strongly encourage church attendance, but if
that is not possible, there should be the
realization all day that this is a solemn day of
penance and devotion of the sufferings of
Jesus.
On Holy Saturday, the Easter Vigil is the
traditional time, anticipating the Feast of the
Resurrection, when converts are brought into
the Church. The baptism of converts reflects
the scriptural reference to “rising with Christ”
through baptism.
The Feast of the Resurrection is a
celebration of victory and a celebration with
joy. His enemies thought they had won
because Jesus appeared defeated by the
most humiliating death on the cross. So,
when our Lord came back to life, it was sheer
victory for Him…and joy for Him and for us,
since we are positioned to follow in His wake.
May we live this week, with the rest of the
Church contemplating the final days of Jesus
from His Last Supper to His glorious
resurrection and reap the great spiritual
benefits from this union with Him.
Our union with God is based on His love for
us. The language of love is SACRIFICE. He
proved His love for us by His sacrificial death
on the cross. We gave up things for Lent
and we make a special effort during this
coming Holy Week to make the sacrifice of
coming to church for the various church
functions to show our love for Him. He once
said to St. Margaret Mary, pointing to His
human heart:
Behold the heart that has
so loved men and is loved so
little in return.
May we return much love to Him during this
coming Holy week.
Thanks to the Sodality for sponsoring and
attending a great Day of Recollection this
past Friday. Many came, including several
from other parishes.
We see the great artistry of Steve Ardovino in
the repainting of our statues of Mary and St.
Joseph which are usually found on both
sides of the church near the front.

Holy Saturday: Easter Vigil, Saturday, April

Our Parish St. Joseph Feast was a huge
success thanks to so many of you. The altar
was beautifully decorated and adorned with a
bounty of religious candles and flowers,
delicious foods and specially made breads,
and wonderful desserts. The Knights of
Columbus 4th Degree Assembly added
dramatic devotion to our celebration of the
life of St. Joseph by their presentation of
arms at the Mass and their procession
downstairs to the altar for a special prayer
service, followed by the blessing of the food.
Councils #635 and #4304 and their Ladies
Auxiliary helped to gather needed items for
the altar and helped prepare delicious foods.
Special thanks go to Claudia Tombrello, Fran
Robertson, Anthony Timpa, Sr., and Anthony
Timpa, Jr., for their extraordinary efforts to
make everything beautiful and enjoyable for
all. Thank you all for your help in building the
altar, for your expert cooking, for help with
clean up and, of course, for your generosity
with donations. Over $1,712.14 was
collected and will be donated to the Catholic
Center of Concern and to the Dominican
Sisters of St. Jude in Marbury.

High School PSR
class and youth
group will not
meet next
Sunday, April 4.
We will resume
meeting on Sunday, April 11.
There will be an interest meeting for any high
school students who want to attend summer
camp. The meeting will be Tuesday, April 6,
in the youth room from 6:45 p.m. until 7:45
p.m.
Middle School youth group will not be
meeting Monday, April 5. They will meet
Monday, April 19.
The Middle School Youth Group will have a
lock-in on Friday, April 30, from 6:00 p.m.
until 1:00 a.m. Forms will be available soon.

Magnificat. The Service Team of Magnificat
invites all the women of the Diocese to the Spring
Magnificat Prayer Breakfast to be held on
Saturday, April 24, from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30
p.m. at St. Elias Maronite Rite Catholic Church.
Our speaker will be Kathy Tortorice, parishioner
at St. Aloysius Church.
In 2002, an event occurred that drew Kathy
closer to the Holy Spirit and toward a new
relationship with the Lord. Come to Magnificat
and bring a friend to find out what happened to
change Kathy’s life and how the Holy Spirit can
change your life too.
Tickets for the Prayer Breakfast are $10.00 and
may be obtained from our ticket chairwoman,
