Obituary

Clara Price Hamilton, affectionately called Sister Babe by her brothers Nathan
and Samuel, was born February 15, 1922 to the late Nathaniel and Louise Price
in Laurens, South Carolina. Clara died peacefully in her sleep on September 5,
2009 at Crescent Cities Center, Riverdale Park, MD.

Clara grew up in Washington, DC where she attended DC public schools,

graduating from Dunbar High School in June 1941. In September 1942 she
married George Mason Hamilton, Sr. Their union was blessed with three
children, George Jr., Sharon and Brian, all of whom were born on the 14 th of
their respective birth months. Clara was preceded in death by her brother
(Samuel), son (George, Jr.) and granddaughter (Sarita Quionones).

After working for 30 years for the Federal Government, Clara retired from the
Department of the Army in 1979. She was a faithful, dedicated and loving
member of St. Philip the Evangelist Episcopal Church for over 50 years. Clara
remained active until her health failed. She especially enjoyed singing in the
choir; members of the choir affectionately called her “Mother Superior”. In
addition to singing she enjoyed rendering volunteer services at the Washington
Episcopal Center for Children; serving as an active member of the Washington
DC Chapter Union of Black Episcopalians where she served as the Amenity
Secretary; being active with the Episcopal Church Women; and was an active
member of the St. Philip’s Alter Guild.

Clara enjoyed playing card games, especially Bid Whist and Tonk, at family
members’ gatherings. She became a member of MRS (a club of married ladies)
in August 1944 where she enjoyed different social activities, including overnight
trips at Long View Beach and Columbia Beach on the Chesapeake Bay. She
loved to travel and did so until her health prevented her from traveling.

Clara leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Sharon Harris (Stanley), one
son, Brian Hamilton (Gloria), one brother Nathan Price (Helen), sister-in-law,
Josephine Price, ten grandchildren – Angela Akinpelu (David), Sheryl Harris
(Derek), Kevin Hamilton (Carla), Karla Richardson (Rick), Sharla Hamilton,
Arthur Davidson, Jr. (Demetria), Tara Williams (Cedric), Arianne Hamilton; 14
great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews,
extended relatives and many, many friends.

Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free.

I’m following the path God laid for me;
I took his hand when I heard him call,
