R.J. OBrien & Associates, LLC is the oldest futures brokerage firms in Chicago. Headquartered in
Chicago (400+ employees), the company has international entities in Canada, Hong Kong and the
United Kingdom (approximately100 employees), all of which are managed by the US Human
Resources Department. As a Human Resources Generalist, for a team of four, the daily responsibilities
can fluctuate from recruiting/on-boarding to reporting analysis. Seventy-five percent of the position is
spent on benefits administration for all entities; including but not limited to annual renewals, required
testing and filing, and employee inquires. The other 25% is spent training team members, employee
relations, HRIS maintenance.
Accomplishments:
Created compensation & recruiting template spreadsheet (2012), that assisted in proper tracking and
accurate input of annual merit changes and recruitment projection. By working with senior
leadership, this process has streamlined the annual process to reduce time spent on maintenance by
one weeks time. The template has been used year over year by the Senior HR Analyst as a base for
process improvement as the company grows.
Development and implementation of process improvements for the following areas that have led to
division of labor, reduction in time, and compliance with HIPPA and other employment laws (20112015): On-boarding (all entities), monthly benefits reconciliation, online performance reviews, and
annual benefits testing 401(k), FSA, and P11D.
Worked directly with HRIS provider (ADP) to develop and create a customized performance and
talent online tool for employees as well as collaborated with senior management in developing
performance evaluation standards (2014).
Spearheaded wellness initiatives for the US entity. The wellness initiatives began in 2012 with the
incorporation of the health risk assessments and grown year over year to education sessions,
activities, health fairs and employee interactions with all RJO benefit vendors. Through data analysis
and survey results employees are becoming more involved and wiser consumers.
