BELL selects Glenn Starnes to lead summer learning partnerships


in Montgomery County
Programs aim to increase the academic achievement
of 1,000 2nd and 3rd graders at local schools
BALTIMORE, March 2, 2016 BELL (Building
Educated Leaders for Life) today announced the
hiring of Glenn Starnes as its Director of Program
Operations in Montgomery County, Maryland. In
his new role, he will lead BELLs collaboration with
Montgomery County Schools and expand summer
learning opportunities for at-risk students.
Montgomery County and BELL share common
values and goals for serving scholars and families
with excellence and that sets the partnership up
for success, said Glenn. Im excited to
collaborate with schools and create innovative
summer learning opportunities for students who need them most.
Glenn brings deep experience in educational leadership and collaboration. Most
recently, he served as the Coordinator for Extended Learning Programs in
Baltimore City Public Schools, where he helped create the City Schools Learning
Express program that served 641 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders at 11 schools. He also has
served as an Assistant Principal in Duval County Public Schools; Vice Principal and
Interim Principal at Options Public Charter School in Washington, D.C., and in
numerous roles at Richmond City Public Schools. He has led Career & Technical
Education & Junior ROTC departments, facilitated a 21st Century Community
Learning Centers grant and served his alma mater, Virginia Union University, as
Director of Student Activities and Leadership.
In addition to his new role at BELL, Glenn serves as an Adjunct Professor at
Northern Virginia Community College Alexandria Campus.
To his colleagues and students, Glenn is a mover and shaker. He has been
recognized as a Cambridge Whos Who Among Executives, Professionals and
Entrepreneurs and the 2011 Virginia Outstanding Business Teacher of the Year. A
member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., he has served on numerous boards and
committees including the Board of Directors for the Virginia Future Business
Leaders of America, Phi Beta Lambda Foundation and the New Generations Federal
Credit Union and as the State Treasurer for Learning Forward Virginia.

Glenn holds a Bachelors degree in Business Administration and Secondary


Education and a Masters degree in Educational Leadership from Regent University.
He is a native of Winston-Salem, N.C., and is the eldest of three to Shawn Pauling
Starnes.
