This article is related to progeny in Vedic Astrology. To understand the strength of the child bearing factors in both male and female horoscope, there is
a method defined in Phaladeepika. It is a simple method and can be followed by anyone.
The purpose of the article is to explain the method in brief and then present some of the data that I have collected over a period of time in order to put the
method to test. I am not providing the birth details due to privacy concerns and it is almost impossible for anyone to construct the date of birth, time of
birth and place of birth data back from the calculations here. Hence the privacy of my clients is well preserved.
Some of the data is very very old, hence I am not sure of the current situation and if any of these clients indeed became parents through medical help or
even adoption.
The edition of Phaladeepika that I have is a Hindi version edited/translated by Dr. Suresh Chandra Mishra and published by Ranjan Publications. There
is a version available in English through Motilal Banarasidas too https://books.google.co.in/books?id=bxGQS_pDgvUC. I have looked at both of them
and at least for this chapter on Santaanbhaavaadhyaaya (
), the shlokas are the same. Hence, you can pick up any of the editions and will
be looking at the same base material.
Some of the material on the houses connected to children in these chapters is pretty common sense. The karaka for children in a horoscope is Jupiter
and hence is studied as the most important factors along with 5th house lord from Moon and Lagna.
The method of Kshetra and Beeja Sphuta is as follows. If you need details, pick up a copy of Phaladeepika from any of the leading bookstores.

Apart from this, one more value is computed for both male and female. This is called Santaan Tithi or Putra Tithi. This is computed as:
1. Take longitude of Sun and Moon. Multiply by 5 and take the difference. Difference = 5 * (Moon Lon Sun Lon)
2. Take the remainder while dividing by 360. Remainder = MOD(Difference,360)
3. Compute the Tithi as usual. Date = Remainder/12, Tithi = CEILING(MOD(Date,15),1)
4. If this Tithi is one of the chhidra tithis (4th, 6th, 8th, 9th, 12th, 14th) or Amavasya, then there is a problem.
However, both of the calculations must be looked at in conjunction with the rest of the effects on the 5th house. I present some of the data based on the charts that I have gathered over the years.
