Thank Mr. Arokia for giving us advice to go about this project and also for
having lessons that are fun filled and meaningful. Your advice has certainly
made it easier for us achieve certain goals.
Thank you to everyone in the group for providing your time and effort throughout
the entire project. None of us can ask each other for more. Working together was
certainly a fun experience especially during the carnival and the activities done in the
hospital. Everyone did great and their best to make this project a great success.
We would also like to thank the officials of Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah
for giving us permission to repaint and refurbish the mini library and as well for
allowing us to draw and sing along with some of the children in the pediatric ward.
Among the officials we would like to give thanks to is Puan Akmar Irdawaty Bt Zulkifli
for responding to our emails and keeping constant contact with us throughout the project.
To the ward sisters thank you for providing extra information concerning the ward and
providing extra cleaning materials we needed during the repainting, you guys were
particularly helpful.
Finally a very big thank you to all who donated to the project. Without the funds you
have provided we would not have been able to provide the things requested for the
hospitals. Your support has also been a morale booster for us.

Introduction
The function of this report is to provide information concerning the actions taken
during the project. This is in conjunction with the requirements of General Studies
and at the request of our lecturer Mr. Arokia. In the project we have chosen to aid
the pediatric ward of Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah. We did so by changing
the ambience of the mini library by repainting and providing new furniture. Activities
were done with the children in the ward to get to know the children and further better the
overall mood in the ward.
To achieve the goals of the project we were asked to think of methods to raise funds
and then implement them. Our goals also serve as the measure of our success in the
project.

Individual Report

1. Melvin Cheah
First of all, I would like to thank all the committees that helped throughout this project.
The purpose of this project is to help the sick children that felt neglected or sad in the hospital.
The destination of this project is Hospital Tunku Ampuan Rahimah. Our first visit to the hospital
is to listento a short briefing about the dos and donts by the person in charge.
After that, we are clear about the objectives and started raising funds for The Day. One
of the ways of raising funds is to ask donations around the housing area in Damansara Jaya on
27/5/2013. I went there with Chloe, Vanessa and Young Wen. The responds was quite
encouraging as we manage to collect some donations by some of the residence there. Besides
that, our class had also organized a charity carnival on 5/6/2013. I tried to help as much as I
could and turn out it wasnt a waste of energy. The carnival was a great success because we
manage to sell off all of our homemade spaghetti. Furthermore, we had also held another
carnival on 19/5/2013 to sell off our remaining stocks.
After class on 12/6/2013, we went to Mydin to buy the items required by the hospital. We
manage to get most of the items that are stated in the report. Because we couldnt find all the
items in Mydin, we also went to NSK to get the remaining items.
It was our first visit on 22/6/2013 at 2 p.m., we get ready our paint and the painting
equipments to refurbish the play room. We painted the walls lime green because the colour is
looks really bright and cheerful. We work together really well and finished our job earlier than
we expected. After that, we cleaned the room and move in the new furniture when the paint had
already dried. The furniture looks really good as the colour blend well with the colours of the
wall.
Its the big day for us 29/6/2013. The event starts at 11 a.m.. We were put into a small
room with a few kids. It was awkward at first because the children were too shy. Without any
delay, we gave them a paper and a set of colour pencils for the drawing and colouring contest.
The kids were too shy to draw but the problem was solved when Vanessa suggested all of us to
draw with them. After that, we had chosen a few winners and the prizes was presented. I really
enjoy spending time with the children because it was really fun to be with my group mates and
the kids.
In conclusion, it was a great success and I am proud of my group mates for organizing
such an amazing event ourselves. We gained a lot of experience throughout this project and also

manage to strengthen our bond among our group. Ive also learned about teamwork as we
overcome all the difficulties by working together throughout this whole project.

2. Ng Lee Sian
First of all, I would like to thank all the committees for helping in this project. The purpose of
this project is to raise fund to support and help the sick children in Hospital. It is focuses on the
pediatric ward of Hospital Tengku Ampuan Ramah that located in Klang. In order to reach our
group target that is RM5000, the whole class had work together to organize a carnival which is
called Kids Hope. We set up our personal booth for 3 different days together with the others
two groups which in the 15 of May, 22 of May and 5 of June.

13 of May, I went to NSK with some of the committees to do a grocery shopping. I went there
together with Chloe, Vanessa, Witnee, Youngwen, Steve and Melvin. Its my very first time go to
NSK surprisingly the things selling there are cheaper compare to other supermarket. After a few
hours, we finally got all the stuff we need.

15 of May, Its the day we set up our very first booth. This carnival was organized by class E1.
Our class join them together along with C1. In the morning, we face some problem as there are
not enough tables for us. So we go around to ask extra tables from inti stuff and finally we
managed to get some to set up our booth. This event was start at 12pm to 5pm. Each of us did
our own job, Im in charge of the drinks and the money.

22 of May, its Kids hope carnival organized by our class and joining together with C1. The
whole D1 was wearing red, I think reds really attract the attention from other people. This event
started from 12pm to 5pm. Before that, I started decorate the booth and walked around the
college to give out the delivery flyers together with Sin Yee, Brenda and Andrew. More and
more customer coming and we are really satisfied. Suddenly, its raining like cats and dogs. We
had to stop all the business. After it stop raining, we actually lose all the customers, less people
coming. This force us to stop all the business before 5.

5 of June, this is our last time setting up a booth. As usual, we do all our jobs and enjoy this
moment.

Through all these events, we faced some problems but we solved it together. We gained a lo of
experience in organizing an event and also learn how to co-operate with each other. In a nutshell,
thanks to all the committees and everyone involves.

Through this project, I have learnt that teamwork is very important to accomplish a task. We will
likely have to use teamwork to collaborate with other members on this project. In a team, we can
do things better as it brings in the strengths of many people. Everytime, we spilt the jobs into
small, separate pieces then each of us will finish it as fast as we can.

I also learnt that we have to enjoy while working. While working on selling food, giving out
flyers, cleaning together with other people, it is really fun. Although it is tired, it is very
enjoyable. The moment when all the hard work really paid off, I just felt so happy. I think this is
a really good experience.

Besides that, I learnt that helping is a simple action yet it brings so much happiness and joy to
many people. Helping the kids in the hospital make me happy, playing with the kids we share the
joy. Seeing the kids suffer from the illness, It makes me to feel appreciate of what I have.

Lastly, Im grateful that I have the opportunity to help the sick children. And I feel precious
because the help itself is valuable. This is really an unforgettable experience for me.
Throughout the project, Ive learnt so mush of things.

First of all, I would like to thank all of my friends and very helpful group members for doing
their best to make this GNS/COMM project a success. The theme for our group is Helping The
Sick Children Project. We decided to help out the pediatrics section in Hospital Tengku Ampuan
Rahimah, a hospital in Klang. But we had to raise funds first, so we collaborated with the other 2
groups in our class and set up Personal Booths on 22/5/2013 whereas the real Carnival was held
on 5/6/2013.
A lot of preparation had to be done before the 2 dates, such as job delegation, preparation
of food, accounting and other things. We also made a trip to check out the hospital on 8/5/2013
to discuss with the hospital staff about our project and to schedule the dates for our visits to the
hospital. We go to the hospital on 22/6/2013 and 29/6/2013
22/5/2013 The day of the personal booths. We hoped for the best results on that day, but
for a handful of us, (especially me) were inexperienced with this sort of affairs, so it didnt go
very smoothly as at the end of the day, we didnt reach our expected target. The next day, there
was a group discussion held after GNS class, with the atmosphere which made everyone feel
uneasy. We had to buck up and stay focused for the real thing on 5/6/2013.
28/5/2013 The group leader, Jim and I went to Summit to collect some donations. I
came up with an idea and put it to use, but during the time in Summit, not much was collected.
5/6/2013 The big day, the real Fundraising Carnival. We were better prepared this time.
Everything went better than I expected until, heavy rain hit our area. The tents where we were
holding our carnival could have fell over if it wasnt for a few people holding the tent legs in
place. The rain stopped shortly after, but quite a few things got wet. Nevertheless, we still
continued sales until the evening.
19/6/2013 The class had another sale, to finish off the stock, but I was not present
because of driving exam. So, I dont really know what was going on.
22/6/2013 We had our first real visit to the hospital. The staff gave us nametags to
identify us. The mini library was not in good condition. We did our best, removing drawings and
stickers from the wall, in order to paint the walls, and removing floor mats to be replaced with
new ones. 3 of us lifted a very large cupboard out of there to put in a new one which is not
unsightly.
This is the first time I experienced how to organize an event. We faced problems but we
still overcame it. This whole project was a good experience, Im sure, for all of us. In conclusion,
I would like to thank the whole group, our lecturers Ms. Malini and Mr. Arokia, and everybody
else who participated.

4. Teh Shi Yung

After we had informed by lecturer that we need to complete a service-learning project, my group
had having a discussion and finally decided to do a charity work to help a government hospital
which needs our helps. We had decided to choose Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah which
located in Klang as our choice. After getting permission from the hospital, we were gone there
for our first visit on 5th of May. After we arrived in the hospital, they brought us to sixth floor
which is the children wad. My group and I were having a discussion on our project in a mini
library with the people in charge for the hospital. We had decided to refurnish the mini library
which originally looks dull into a brighter place for the sick children to stay in there.
Besides, my group members and I also were having a lot of discussion on the preparation
for Carnival and Personal Booth. On 22nd of May, my group was having our first personal
booth. We had decided to sell Popcorn Chicken, Chicken Finger, Mushroom Soup, and Root
Beer Float on that day. Unfortunately, the weather condition on that day was not satisfactory. It
was a windy day and it had caused our personal booth failed to progress smoothly. The sale on
that day was unsatisfactory as we did not make any profit.
5th of June was our carnival day. We had combined it with the students from Section C1.
Before the carnival start, some of my group members and I had promoted our carnival by giving
out the flyer. It was quite hard for me on the beginning as I was not well in communicating and
promoting. But, after promote it few times later; I begin to familiar with it. After the carnival
start, my group and I start to sell the food. The food that we sell on that day was Spaghetti,
Cheesy Fries, Sandwiches and also Root Beer Float. I was in charge to prepare the sandwiches
and the respond was quite well and I fell so happy. 19th of June was our second Personal Booth
day and we had sell spaghetti and Root Beer Float only. Besides organized personal booth and
carnival to collect money, we also try to get donation from other peoples.
On 22nd of June, we visited the hospital to refurnish the mini library. We painted the wall
with light green paint and replaced all the carpet and curtain. When we try to take out the carpet
of the mini library, we saw urine on the floor. I was amazed of the teamwork of my group
members because although we felt disgusting, we still managed to replace all the carpet with the
new ones successfully. We also had visited the hospital for the second times on 29th of June. On
that day, we were having activities with the sick children in Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah.
We had a drawing competition and we also gave the present to all the children that involved after
the competition ended. We also sang few songs with the children to break the ice and get rid of
the awkward atmosphere. After involved myself in this event, I feel like I was enjoy to join with
the children and play with them happily.

Through this project, I have gained a lot of experience and learn a lot of things. All of this
was unable to study through text book. Firstly, I have learnt about the importance of teamwork

between group members. In order to do well, teamwork is very important and I think my group
members have done well and all of us can discuss things and done all the work together.
Secondly, I had learnt about the important of communication. During this project, effective
communication was helping us to done all the work and solved the entire problem well.
Moreover, I also learn to play and communicate with the children as I didnt get used to stay with
the children before that.
Lastly, I would like to say thank you to all my group members, General Studies lecturer,
Mr. Arokia and all the people that had involved in this project. Without the cooperation,
encouragement and involvement from all the peoples, I believe this project will be very difficult
and hard to accomplish our group's goal. I was very happy and feel appreciate that I have the
chance to involve myself in this beneficial service-learning project. I also feel glad that we had
success in making changes on someones life.

5. Chay Lyi Ann

In week 2 of The Foundation in Business IT program, my class, Section D1, have been assigned
to serve in a community project. This project is a combined project for two subjects which are
General Studies and Human Communication. This project has to be completed before our final
exams. We were then split into three groups and started our project from then onwards.
My group had many discussions and various ideas regarding how to raise funds for this project.
We have decided to help a government hospital which needs our help. We then chose Hospital
Tengku Ampuan Rahimah in Klang. After our proposal had been accepted, we went for our first
visit on the 5th of May. We had problems in finding transport to get us there as it is quite a
distance. We had a few discussions and our fellow group mate, Vanessa, managed to get a van to
send all of us there. When we have arrived, we had to wait for quite some time because the
service was terrible! We were only attended by the person in charge half an hour later.
She brought us up the sixth floor to look around and brought us to the mini library to discuss our
project a little further. After all the hassle, the management of the hospital was glad that we are
lending a hand to help not only the hospital but also the children there. We also took a closer look
at the mini library and decided to make the room a brighter place. From then onwards, we
discussed on how we should have the room and what to buy for the children.
Not long after, we had our first combined carnival with the other sections as well. It took a lot of
planning and paperwork for the whole event. It was not easy. 22nd of May was the first carnival
and it was as windy as ever. We had to deal with the wind and also the competition all around us.
It was very challenging. On that day, we sold popcorn chicken, mushroom soup, chicken fingers
(nuggets) and also A&W floats. Our sales were not good that day because of the lack of
cooperation among members. Most of us were very frustrated and it was one of the factors that
affected the sales. We did not make any profit on that day.
On the consequent day, we had a meeting to voice out how we felt about the carnival we had the
day before. Some of them werent being helpful and most of us were not quite happy about that.
After the meeting, everything was made clear to everyone and we tried to work things out. Since
we did not make much money for the first fund raiser, the top management decided to collect
donations from housing areas to boost our funds. Only a few of them went and the results of the
donations were satisfying.
5th of June was or second carnival and we only joined with Section C1 this time. It was again
very competitive but we did not give up easily. My group mates and I set up the materials we
needed and start selling our food as fast as we can. We sold spaghetti, cheesy fries, sandwiches
and also A&W floats on that day. I started to hand out the flyers to promote the carnival held.
The response was good because there were finally people who started to get the delivery service.
It was a very busy day for us and I saw that our group was doing effectively and we earned more
than what we have expected.

A week later, all of us went to the Mydin shopping centre to buy items for the necessary items
that the hospital requires. We managed to get almost everything that they needed and we were
proud of what we were capable of. It then slowly lessens our burden as we had enough money to
buy the items. We also bought other things that we thought they needed.
The following week which was 19th of June, we had our last and final carnival. My group sold
spaghetti and root beer floats only. Everyone was much drained out and no one seemed to be
interested in our carnivals as we already had so many. Vanessa and Chloe went to get donations
whereas the rest of us stayed back to open the stall. We had customers without even promoting
much and managed to sell almost all of what we prepared! The money earned that day was again
satisfying.
With all these money in hand, we have decided to buy more items for the hospital to make it a
better place. On the 18th of June, our leader, Jim, and I went to buy furniture for the hospital.
The store owner even gave us free delivery because we are doing this for charity. It was really
very kind of him. On Saturday, 22nd of June, we visited the hospital to refurnish the mini library.
Before that, we waited for the furniture to arrive so that they could bring it up to the sixth floor.
While they were setting up the furniture, the rest of us started painting the room, cleaning the
walls, mopping the floor and taking out the old furniture. It was really a good time for us as it
helped us to bond as a group and get to know each other better. Looking at our end results, we
were very satisfied and left with smiles on our faces although we were totally worn out.
On the 29th of June, we visited the hospital again. This was going to be our last visit and we
wanted to leave something there to remember. On this day, we had activities with the children.
Not all were capable of doing activities but those who could manage to join us. We had a
drawing competition and gave prizes to the children to appreciate their hard work. I was there
playing the guitar as an entertainment for the kids. I believed they enjoyed the time they had with
us. We cleaned up the place and took a last look at the changes we made. We were very proud of
ourselves. We left with joyful hearts knowing that we have made a difference.
In this long term of project, I have learnt so many things that no one could ever teach me. This
experience taught me how to be independent and learn how to respect others as we all have
different opinions. It also taught me to be a more patient person because rushing can bring me
nowhere. I have also learned that we have to be responsible for our own actions and
responsibilities. Our actions can affect others and therefore I see the need to be careful of how I
speak and act. No words can explain how much I have learnt from this project and how much it
has benefited me in my life.
I would like to give special thanks to the lecturers, Mr. Arokia Raj and Ms. Malini for helping
and guiding us through this tough times and encouraging us to do our best to serve the less
fortunate. In addition, I would also like to say thank you to every single group member, Jim,
Vanessa, Steve, Melvin, Chloe, Wit Nee, Young Wen, Lee Sian, Abigail, Shi Yung and Ryan for

their hard work in making this a successful project, without the help of one person, we might not
even make it so far. I am proud that we have exceeded our target and are able to serve the
community in a way that is so beneficial to me. I am glad that we could make a change in
someone elses life and make the impossible, possible.

6. Abigail Lim
In general studies subject, we were required to complete a community project. The objective of
the project is to help the unfortunate children. We were divided to three groups and we will be
working together to achieve this objective. After divided into group, we started to contribute
ideas to raise funds for this community project. We decided to help the unfortunate sick children
of a government hospital of Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah in Klang after conducting some
research.
During meetings, the leader delegated the task and listed out the objectives of this project so
that every group member has a clearer vision of this project. We also have set a target which is to
obtained up to RM6,000 for donations through this project. Although it seems difficult to
achieve, but it motivated us to work harder in order to reach this goal. We have shared ideas of
how to raise funds for this project and planed actions such as organizing a fundraising carnival
and collecting donations from housing areas. Our secretary, Vanessa has also prepared a timeline
for this whole project in order to have a more organize plan. In addition, we have tried to collect
sponsorship from other sources but unfortunately we didnt get a replied from every sponsors
requests sent.
On the 8th of May, we have our first visit to Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah. We faced our
first obstacle which is finding a transport to reach there. But fortunately, we managed to rent a
van and all of us are able reached the hospital safely. When we arrived, we waited a period of
time before the person-in- charge showed up. She brought us to a mini library so we can explain
our objectives to her. She was grateful because we managed to have this kind of project which
can help out a lot for the sick children. When we were going to leave, they shook our hands
tightly. I can feel their thankfulness and appreciation. We also have discussed and decided to
refurnish the mini library so the children can have a better place to study.
We have made arrangements and preparations of the food, tables and chairs for the first
fundraising carnival on the 22th May 2013 at Inti International College Subang ground floor. We
decided to sell popcorn chicken, mushroom soup, chicken fingers and root beer on the day. That
day was a windy day and this was a challenge for us because it was difficult to set up our booth.
There were once when our paper cup and plastic containers are blown away and dropped to the
floor by the wind. Besides that, the location of our booth is at the corner as it can get difficult to
the get attention of the customers. Some of my group mates and I walked around our college to
sell our food. After the carnival has ended, I felt sad because our sales were under our
expectation that day. We didnt manage to gain any profits.
On the 5th of june, we have our second carnival. We decided to change our venue to IICS plaza
because this place is larger and it can attract more customers as more people will pass by there.
All of us wore red and this has successfully caught peoples attention. We set up the booth and
start selling our food such as spaghetti, cheesy fries, sandwiches and root beer float. My group

mates and I walked around the school compound to give out flyer to promote our carnival. The
sales were good that day and everyone has given much effort to make this carnival a success. But
unfortunately, there is a sudden heavy rain pour and everyone was shocked by this situation.
Despite the carnival was being held under the tents, the wind is still strong so we quickly kept
our food so that it would not get soak by the rain. The customers were greatly reduced after the
rain but overall the carnival ended up with a good response. We have successfully made a higher
profit than expected. Although it was tiring, but I am delighted because the team work spirit and
connection of our group mates are strengthen after this carnival.
On the 12th of june, we went to Mydin shopping center to buy the list of items needed by the
hospital which they sent to us. With the donations we earned, we managed to fulfill almost all the
items. We also bought maps and curtains for the decoration of the mini library. When buying
these items, we also have considered the suitability of the items for the safety of the children.
A week later which is on 19 June 2013, we held another carnival. We sold spaghetti and root
beers only that day because we have managed to reach our goals from the donations and profits
we earned last few weeks. My group mates and I gave out the flyer again during this carnival.
The sales were again good that day and the food we prepared have almost finished. We were
satisfied with this response.
On the same week which is 22th of June, we visited the hospital to refurnish the mini library.
Everyone was doing their tasks such as painting the wall, mopping the floor, cleaning the walls
and hanging up the curtains. We have also placed the new tables and cabinet we bought for this
mini library because we saw the furniture has quite aged that day. The mini library is clean and
bright after our efforts. We were happy and satisfied with the results. Our hard works paid off.
On 29th of June, we visited the hospital again. We were going to have activities with the
children this time. We had a drawing competition and the title is The Things We Most Like.
We also involved in this drawing activity in order to get closer with the children. I enjoyed the
moment spent with the children and felt glad while seeing them had really put in effort in
drawing. My group mates, Lyi Ann acted as a guitarist that day and we have sang songs together.
The interaction between us and the children are harmonious. The prizes are given to the winner
and the children really have loved the prizes. The days ended with laughter and I believed
everyone have enjoyed their time with the children.
In this project, I have learned a lot of things. First, I learnt to communicate with others when
completing this project. It taught me to give my opinion in a proper ways because it may lead to
conflicts if there is a misunderstanding through communication. Next, I also learnt the important
of teamwork because every team members has the responsibility and unique roles for the project.
Teamwork is the key of success because when everyone is putting their effort in, the activity can
be completed efficiently. It also taught me to be active listener. When other members are giving

out their viewpoints, I leant to understand and listen to all the messages without interrupting
before giving out my own opinion. This is to respect other team members to avoid conflicts.
I would like to thank my group mates, Jim, Vanessa, Chloe, Lyi Ann, Wit Nee, Young Wen, Lee
Sian, Shi Yung, Steve, Melvin and Ryan by putting a lot of effort for making this project
successful. Last but no least, many thanks to our lecturers, Mr Arokia Raj for his assistance and
guidance and give us the opportunity to help the unfortunate children. We managed to reach our
goals and objectives after our hard works and I have gained a lot of experience in this
community project that I cannot get in other places.

7. Young Wen
After the constructive discussion, we have narrow down the option of place that we going to visit
either are hospital or orphanage. The outcome of the discussion was all of us are consensual
choose to visit the hospital as we thought the orphanage always will get the sponsor and donation
from the regular organisation or public. Public are less concern about the facilities, condition and
environment of the hospital as they thought the hospital should gain the sponsor from
government.
Before visit the Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahman, I feel very excited since this was the
first project I need to visit the place with my group member then only report can be prepare.
Further, this was also my first charities project that I need to raise the fund through different way
so that my group can have sufficient fund to buy some commodity and furniture to donate to
Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahman. During discussion, we had suggested few ways to raise the
fund.
I feel very disappointed and flustered as we had making loss during the procedures of
raise fund through selling foods and drinks in the first carnival day. I am worry that we cannot
raise sufficient fund and achieve the target as I thought the amount of money we need to be
collected is consider too high for us. The high probability of the reason might be we did not pry
into the price of other competitors. We only realize that the selling price we set is too high
compare to other competitors. Further, we also did not take appropriate action to react the
competitive environment as all of us are less of experience of trading. However, we did not give
up and cheer each other. Then, we had decided to raise funds through visit the resident home and
from other public we meet around. Moreover, we also continue to selling the foods and drinks at
second and third days of carnival by reduce the selling price. Finally, I feel very happy as we had
achieved the target and raised sufficient funds.
During visit the hospital, I feel disgusting when I saw the urine stains on the carpet of the
mini library of the hospital. I had replaced the carpet and curtain. When I am going to replace the
curtain, I can feel that I want to sneeze as the curtains really contain a lot of dust and that is long
time not being clean by the cleaner. Before the session of drawing and singing start, I feel the
children were very stranger and we have no interaction with each other. I feel wonderful when I
involve in the session of drawing and singing with the children who are the patient stay in
hospital. I fell that I had become a close friend of the children.
After visit the Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahman, I only realize that the condition and
facilities of the Hospital is not good as I think before visit the hospital. Thus, I hope the
government can take more concern about the facilities and environment of this Hospital Tengku
Ampuan Rahman and made some improvement on it so that the patient can enjoy more
comfortable, clean, convenient and health facilities and environment of this hospital. Lastly, I
also want to thank to my group member and lecturer Mr. Arokia as their cooperation and assist
had made the charity project completed successful.

8. Yap Wit Nee

I am WitNee, from Inti International College, Subang. I feel glad that General Study
subject was included in this semester. It teaches us how to study in college and how do we
manage our college life wisely. So, we were grouped for 12 members in our group to complete a
group project. Our group was chosen a title of Helping Sick Children project, which we were
planning to raise funds for the kids who are in need or having health problems, in Hospital
Tengku Ampuan Rahimah which is a government hospital in Klang.
After we get the wish list from the hospital, we found that the hospital actually in need
for help. So, to fulfill the hospitals wish list, we aimed to raise RM 5000.00 to buy the stuffs that
required by the hospital. So, to achieve our goal, we had few meetings and three times fund
raising carnivals within two months.
Our first carnival is on 22nd of May. So, 2 days before the carnival, Ive followed my
group members to NSK hypermarket to buy the food and the things that needed in the carnival.
After that, I helped to keep some of the light stuffs such as plastic fork, spoon and straw to divide
the things equally so that each of us not to be keeping too much of things. Our first carnival took
place at the main entrance. In the carnival, I helped all the groups to order the ice. I know,
without ice, we are unable to do our beverages. I have called the ice sender repeatedly for
pressing him because we need the ice urgently. So I left the booth for a while to inform the guard
to let in the lorry.
Once the lorry was arrived, we were so happy because we can start to make our beverages. But
that was sad case too because I payed the foreign worker for the ice without asking the amount.
But he gave back the wrong amount of changes to me. I didnt realize that at the moment but
when the other group want to pay it back to me, I cant even give their treasurer an exact amount
because I myself also didnt know about the amount. Besides, our board was blocking the wind,
so the board was falling for few times. Some of our group members who was cooking in front of
the board, hit by the falling board at their head. So, since there were members cooking and
working at the booth, so I helped to hold the board to avoid the members hit by the board again.
After this, we found that our root beer was left quite a lot so me and Abigail decided to promote
it at all the levels by lift. After the carnival, all the members were cleaning the surrounding of the
booth. Although we was earned, but still a lot of the food was left after the carnival.
Next, is about our second carnival, on 5th of June. It took place at the middle of the plaza so we
have tents for our booths. As usual, I was the one who ordering the ice. There are more students
passing by the plaza so we have more customer than the first carnival. Since there are more
customers so I have to help to make the beverages. When our main chefs have left, I was taking
the responsibility to sell the spaghetti. Besides, I also went to ask for donation from the students
with my member, Lyi Ann. Although it was not easy but we tried our best to do it. On that day,
we really faced a bad weather. The wind was blew and rained heavily. The tent was moving. So

some of our members was holding the tent. Otherwise, the tent will fall and all of us may be
injured because me and my members was keeping the things that messy blew by the strong wind.
On 19th June, the third carnival, I brought the stuffs from my room after college. Since
the student room that I stay didnt have refrigerator, so before the carnival, I had to to First
Subang to buy ice-cream for our root beer float because it was out of stock at all the grocery
shops around college. As usual, I ordered the ice but since I was outing to buy something, so I
pass the job to other member. I did to boil the spaghetti when it approached to finish. Otherwise
we have to wait for our chefs, it will bring us to a loss. So I just tried to do what I could.
On the 22nd of June, we have our real visit to the hospital. This is the second time we
visited to the hospital. For this time, we went there for the mini library painting and modifying
the arrangement of furniture in the mini library because this required by the hospital. Firstly, we
took out all the existing mats and old cupboards. I was helping to remove the old mat although it
was a very bad condition in the room and there is stinky ammonia smell under the mats. Besides,
I helped to paint the wall, just for fun at the beginning, but I like it. Thats why I was unwilling to
put down the paint brush that I hold at the beginning. After we done painting, I helped to put in
the hook on the curtain. After that, we rearranged the new furniture in the room, done. But we
still short of 2 mats. So we decided to bring it on the next visit.
On 28th of June, Ive followed my group members to Mydin Mall to buy the mats and
presents for the children in the hospital. In the mall, we searched for the curtains, mats, and some
souvenirs as present. We decided to buy the stationery sets for the kids because it is useful for
them, and save to use.
Finally, our last visit to the hospital was over, on 29th of June. We went to put another set
of curtain and mats. Besides, we also entertained the sick children. We got a good idea to let
them have a drawing competition in the playing room. Only a few were took part but the enjoy it.
We found that the kids were shy when they got in the room, so we decided to activate them by
communicate with them. Ive asked a shy Indian girl to draw but unfortunately she couldnt hold
the pen. So I asked for her favourite cartoon and I drew for her, a Jerry The Mouse drawing.
Although the drawing was sucks, at least I tried to communicate with the child. After that, we
gave out all the presents for the children. They were very happy on it.
In the group project, I cant deny that some conflict occurred but we managed to solve it
in the meetings. Ive learnt that communications lead to understanding, and caring comforts
people that in troubles. We did our project successfully with the corporation from my group
members. I would like to thanks all my group members for their concern and tolerating in the
whole project.

9. Chloe Liew Ker Yee

First of all, I would like to thank all the committees for helping in this project. Weve organized a
charity fund raising event. The main objective of this project is to raise fund and to help the sick
children in the hospital. Weve been having three times of charity carnivals. We had planned to
go hospital and visited the unfortunate kids. The destination of this project is Hospital Tunku
Ampuan Rahimah. Weve visited to the hospital for three times. Our first visit to the hospital is
to listen to a short briefing about the guidelines and also to discuss about the activities that would
be held in the hospital.
Besides, Vanessa, Melvin, Young Wen and me went to the housing area in Damansara Jaya to
ask for donations on 27/05/2013. Weve collected some donations from the residence over there.
Then, our class had organized a charity carnival on 5/6/2013. Vanessa, Melvin and Young Wen
came to my house to cook the food that would be selling during the carnival. We manage to sold
out the foods and also manage to get some donations from the students. We also organized
another carnival on 19/06/2013 to sell drinks and spaghetti.
Futhermore, we went to Mydin after our class end on 12/06/2013. We bought the items that
required by the hospital yet we couldnt find all the items that were stated in the report . We also
went to NSK to buy the remaining items. Moreover, our second visit to the hospital on
22/06/2013. Weve painted the walls in the mini library room. The colour of the paint is lime
green because it means youthfulness and playfulness. We had cleaned the library room and
changed new curtain before we move in the new furniture into the library room. In addition,
Vanessa, Witnee, Young Wen and me went to Mydin again to buy prizes and gift for the kids.
Weve planned to carry out some activities with the kids.
Its the big day for us 29/06/2013. We went to hospital by 10 a.m. Weve organized a drawing
contest for the kids. All of us draw together with the kids and also sing together with the kids.
Weve presented the prizes to the winner and also gave the gift to the rest competitors. We had
also took some pictures with the kids before we leave.
Through this charity project, we gained a lot of experiences and also learned how to co-operate
with each other. Teamwork is really important to achieve a goal. We really did a successful
project and exceeded our target. I feel glad that helping someone who is really needs help.

10. Vanessa Tan

When I first heard about this project, I was fairly excited, as this is my first charity
project. I have learned a lot from this project and I have no regrets doing it. This project has
taught me of how important it is to have teamwork. I feel that this project would not have
achieved its goal if there were no corporation between the group members. I am very happy that
our group managed to gather enough funds to the extent that we have exceed our objective. We
aimed to raise RM5K but we managed to gather roughly around RM7K. I think this is a great
accomplishment and we couldnt have done it without a proper strategy.
This project has also taught me how to deal with problems. There are several
obstacles along the process of this project. Some of the problems were such as getting scolded by
the residence, getting complains from the residence management, and a few conflict inside the
group. However, for each problem, we managed to find a way to solve it. This project had really
given me a great experience of how we should deal with people of different personalities. These
problems had not only made us stronger, but it also made us closer to each other.
Im really happy to be given this opportunity to carry out this project because it
has been life changing for me. This project has shown us the reality of poverty and it really open
my eyes of how it is for the people in need. I have never felt so satisfied for helping the hospital
to provide a more cheerful environment by refurbishing the mini library room for the sick
children. The look on the children face when they received their gift was priceless. I find it
amazing how a simple gift could make them so happy. Other than that I was able to develop a
new skill along this project. I was able to learn how to paint as painting the wall is part of the
activity we need to do in this project. All in all, I thought this project has been great and Im glad
that we have successfully carried it out until the end.

11. Steve Lum

First of all, I would like to give my thanks and appreciation to all the member of this group that
made this assignment successful. This assignment is started on the 23rd of April and is carried
out in Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah which is located in Klang with a goal to help the
children in need in the hospital. The first visit to the hospital is carried out doing the 2nd week in
order to ensure what improvement is needed to be done. Transportation are provided by Vanessa
Tan and Chloe Liew to the hospital from Inti College. By visiting the hospital, we were
welcomed and shown around in the children department floor which is in Level 6 by the officer
in charge and what caught our attention is their Children Library which is in a very bad state.
Pictures of the children library are taken by Melvin Cheah and by referring to the pictures, we
are able to take notice of the things that are needed to be replaced and thus, everyone in the
group made up their mind to refurnish the whole Children Library. A list of items that are
required are given by the hospital staff as well.
During the 3rd week of the assignment, we have planned a list of ingredients that are needed
for an upcoming carnival and were bought from NSK which promises warehouse pricing. The
transportation are again, provided by Chloe Liew and Vanessa Tan from Inti College. We manage
to purchase all the ingredients needed for the carnival such as plastic containers, plastic fork and
spoon , spaghetti , Chicken Popcorn, French Fries , root bears , and ice cream.
After that, a fund raising carnival was held after class in front of Inti College together with the
rest of the groups and other classes. The food and drinks that are being sold in our group were
Fried Chicken popcorns , French Fries, rootbear and rootbear floats. Food and drinks were being
prepared and sold by Vanessa, Chloe, Witnee , Abigail , Lee Sian ,Young Wen, while me , Melvin
,Ann, Jim and Ryan were advertising the food by handing out the leaflets and selling the food
around Inti. However, the outcome in the end of the day did not meet our target. Regardless, we
did not lose hope and promises to do better for the 2nd and 3rd upcoming carnival.
A second carnival was held on the 4th week of the assignment in Metropolitan car park and the
food and drinks that are being sold in my group are Fried Chicken popcorns , French Fries,
sandwiches, Spaghetti Bolognese, rootbear and rootbear floats. Food and drinks are being
prepared by me, Vanessa, Chloe, Witnee , Abigail , Lee Sian and Young Wen while advertising
was done by Jim and Lyi Ann ,and Melvin as the cameraman. The Spaghetti Bolognese which
are being sold and prepared by Vanessa Tan in our group receive the most ratings and the
outcome of the end of the day are really satisfying and we have succeeded our target as well.
However, our sales did not last due to the bad weather of heavy rain and wind but I believe that
we have done an excellent work together as a team.
A third carnival was held on the 5th week of the assignment in front of Inti College. However,
we have shorten down the list of the food menu with only our top rated Spaghetti Bolognese and
root beer floats. Me,Witnee,Vanessa, Chloe and Ann are in charge of preparing and selling the

food while Abigail, Lee Sian and Young Wen are in charge of preparing the drinks. Besides that,
Vanessa and Chloe manage to ask for donations from the students of Inti College, McDonals and
Starbucks as well and Melvin took pictures of the whole event with all his effort and sweat. We
manage to sell nearly all of the food at the end of the day and I am really satisfied and grateful of
the teamwork done by this group.
On the 6th week of this assignment, we went to MYDIN in order to purchase all the items
needed to refurnish the hospital and to provide the items that the hospital are lacking of. The
transportation are once again provided by Vanessa Tan and Chloe Liew from Inti College to
MYDIN after class. WE manage to bought several items such as clear folders, files, metal fork
and spoons, plastic cups, plastic plates and bowls, water dispenser, floor mat, curtains, stationary
sets, portable air conditioner and a bright green colour paint in order to refurnish the hospitals
children library on the 3rd day.
A 2nd visitation to the hospital is carried out with a purpose to refurnish the library room. Soon
after we reach the hospital, we carried all the items into the hospital entrance in order for it to be
carried up after. After that, we waited for the furniture such as the work desk and chairs, cabinet
and childrens table to arrive to the hospital. In a short while, the furniture had arrived and we
requested the furniture to be assembled on the children library floor . We were being escorted by
the guards of the hospital to the Children Library Room in level 6 due to safety reasons. Right
after we got into the Children library room, theres an awful stench of urine and vomit. In order
to prevent the smell, each of us were given a face mask by the officers of the hospital. After that,
we started removing the old floor mat and moving the old furnitures out and we found out that
theres a lot of urine and vomit stain on the floor beneath the floor mat, which explains the awful
stench. Immediately, we place a few sheet of newspapers on the floor and we peeled off the
stickers on the wall in order to repaint the room. Painting was done by me, Melvin, Vanessa,
Chloe and Witnee with all our effort. In the end, the colour and mood of the room is brighter and
calm compared to before. Few staff of the department were very happy with the new colour and
offered their thanks to us although they are busy. After that, the floor was swept and mopped by
Ann which successfully clear the horrible stench of the room. Then, we place the new floor mat
on the floor and moved the new furniture into the library room. Right after that, the new curtains
are brought up onto the window. The changes of the room after refurnish is very satisfying to
everyone of us as the result are very obvious.
A 3rd invitation to the hospital was carried out on the 7th week of the assignment which is on
the 29th of June with a goal to visit the children and to entertain them. This activity was carried
out in the Childrens play room in level 6. Those children were very shy at first, so everyone of
us tried to talk to them and comfort them in order to break their ice. Then, few activities such as
drawing competition and participation is carried out for the children. Some of us manage to get
them to participate by joining them for the drawing competition and Lyi Ann manage to
enlighten the mood of everyone by playing the guitar which able to get the children into singing.
After that, the winners of the drawing competition is announced but anyhow, both winners and

losers got the price as we believe that they tried their best and it is just for fun and games. In the
end, it left them with a smile on their faces which are satisfying for the whole group member.
Lastly, I am very satisfied of this whole assignment. Although we faced some problems
throughout the assignment, we manage to solve it together and tried to learn from it. I have gain
a lot of experiences in such charitable event and teamwork which lead to a better understanding
towards each other and how to co-operate with each other. In a nutshell, thanks to all the member
of this awesome group and our lecturer, Mr Arokia Raj for his support and guidance throughout
this assignment.

12. Tan Jim Son

The project has been a great experience. I got to work with great people, got to help
people and had a lot of fun doing so. Our group decided to help the pediatric ward
of Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah by refurbishing and repainting the mini library
in the ward. We have also decided to have fun activities with kids in the ward as well.
In our group meetings we had mainly discussed the allocation of duty and also the ways
to raise funds for the hospital.
Our first visit to the hospital was on the 5th of May. We had some transportation problems
but Vanessa was able to get us a van. Upon reaching the hospital it took some for the
hospital to attend to us but when they did we managed to get more information about the
ward and had a look at it.
On the 28th of May I went around USJ 2 and The Summit USJ to get donations. I had
met with some old friends to get some advice on how to get about this as I have never
done this before. I had also met with a generous friend of my family who donated 1000
RM to our cause. Some of the residents I had asked donated some money. Ryan was there to
assist me in The Summit USJ. We managedto get a few donations from a few shops there
On the 22nd our group was at the hospital to refurbish and paint the mini library. We
had chosen a very vibrant lime green coloured paint and bought plenty of new furniture.
We have also supplied the hospital with cups, forks, spoons and water dispensers. However
the great part was not the giving or the decision to carry out the action but the process. It
was fun to bring a new face to the mini library and really felt great to do some good. I
cant really explain it but I forgot about myself while painting and was really focused on it.
On the 29th of May we went to the hospital again but this time to play and get to know the
children better. Unfortunately Mr. Arokia was not able to join us because of important
matters he had to attend to. When we first started the activity the children did not
respond well because they did not know us. Vanessa suggested we join in the activity as
well and this helped break the ice. It was fun to sing along with the others and the children
and I am sure everyone enjoyed this day as well.
The journey to reach our goals was certainly not easy. I must say everyone did a great job
getting funds to help the hospital especially during the days we had organized carnivals
or set up booths in the INTI College Subang Campus with the rest of the class. To me
it was all about having fun and doing some good.
This is the first time that I had helped a government hospital in this manner. It has also
changed my view on organizing events and activities. To sum it all of it was certainly
an experience I wont forget and a big thank you to everyone who made this happen.

Objectives
-Raise at least RM 5000 worth of funds (completed, raised RM 6500)
-Repaint the mini library in the pediatric ward (Completed)
-Refurbish the mini library (Completed, was also able to provide furniture for the play room)
-Provide for the needs of the ward (Completed)
Overall the completion of the objectives has provided the ward with a better environment for the
children and improvement in the administration of the ward. This gives the children a better
place to get better in and allows the hospital to keep records better thus leading to quicker
response to the needs of the children.

Problems and Challenges Faced

1. Getting funds
- We managed to overcome this with the support of our group members
and with the support of others
2. Choosing the furniture
- The furniture needed to be suitable for children and at the same time attractive
- The shops contacted could not meet the time requirements of the delivery to
the hospital
- Overcome the problem by finding an alternative shop which could provide the
furniture on time and provide quality furniture
3. To repaint or to apply wallpaper
- Initially wallpaper was chosen
- The contractor was not able to provide some who knew how to apply it
- At the end we chose to repaint the walls of the mini library
- Lime green colored paint was chosen as the paint to be used
4. Transportation
- Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah is located in Klang
- Most of the group members do not reside there (only 2 do)
- Initially we hired a van
- That option was too expensive and from there we decided to find our own transportation
- We could only get 2 cars thus 2 members have to take an alternative method
- Used a taxi but found it too expensive
- Using the KTM and then a taxi was found to be much more affordable and easier

We are a group of student formed to help the severely sick children in the hospital. In order to
DESCRIPTION
raise the appropriate fund, we would like to visit the hospital once to have a clear view of
what is needed for the children.

DESCRIPTION
OFis PROJECT
The objective
of this whole project
to give hope and motivation to the children especially to
those that undergo a lot of pain. This project is also done to allow sick children to feel happy
and not neglected. We would also like to help the children that arent able to afford certain
treatment due to financial issues. We believe that every child has the right to live like a normal
child and to be given proper attention. We also believe that every child has the right to a good
quality of life, no matter how ill they are. So we raise money to support individuals and
organisations so that sick children can receive the highest quality care, advice and support.
Whether that's through providing nurses, equipment, carers or toys, working with hospitals
and care organisations or directly with patients, we want to improve the lives of seriously ill
children in Malaysia.
We think that's a marvellous thing to do. We hope you agree.

Conclusion
Throughout the project we have overcome obstacles and problems, helped run a carnival,
repainted the mini library and most of all had fun. We had learned a lot about teamwork
and overcoming conflicts from this project. This project has also strengthened our
relationships and we can certainly work better as a team. Organizing events to raise funds
has certainly given us experience in organizing events and has improved our planning skills.
Everyone has certainly learned something from this and will definitely not forget this experience.
Communication was vital to this projects success and without it we would definitely not be able
to work together and get the hospitals permission. To sum it all up the project is definitely
a beneficial one not only to us but those who we were able to help and it is also fun to boot.
