Introduction
The solar car is an electrically driven car that runs on the power provided by the battery and the
solar radiation.
The upright is one of the most important components of the wheel assembly. It is the point of
interface of the suspension, brake and steering system. It is also an important part for setting the
wheel geometry of the vehicle. Since the upright is being designed for a solar vehicle the upright
must be as light as possible, so as to improve the energy efficiency of the vehicle. This will also
reduce the unsprung mass of the vehicle, which will in turn improve the performance in dynamic
conditions.
Objective

iii.
To make an intelligent car by installing electronic gadgets that are; G.P.S navigation system,
security system and overloading sensing system and to improve the efficiency.
Background
The term "solar vehicle" usually implies that solar energy is used to power all or part of a
vehicle's propulsion. Power may also be used for communications or controls or other auxiliary
functions .Solar vehicles are not used as day-to-day transportation devices at present, but are
primarily demonstration vehicles and engineering exercises, often sponsored by government
agencies.
The design of a solar vehicle is severely limited by the amount of energy input into the car. Most
solar cars have been built for the purpose of solar car races. Solar cars depend on a solar array that
uses photovoltaic cells (PV cells) to convert sunlight into electricity.
The low cost germen version being the first to show up on streets. They are mostly used in China,
UK ,also in low numbers other parts of Asia they have been showing up. China, Japan, India, and
European countries (Switzerland, France, and Germany) have researched and developed solar
vehicle for transport and are attempting to capture the growing market in Asia. Government has
made efforts though to run them and made plans to issue licences. These vehicle are built of C.F
(carbon fibre); consist of 4 wheels with a differential mechanism at rear wheels. The motor is DC
motor. The electrical system used in 24V.
Solar Energy
The solar energy is radiant light and heat from the sun harnessed using a range of ever-evolving
technologies such as solar heating, solar photovoltaic, solar thermal energy, solar architecture and
artificial photosynthesis.
1. Solar panel is asset of photovoltaic modules electrically connected and mounted on a supporting
structure.
2. Photovoltaic module is packaged, connected assembly of solar cells.
3. The solar panel is used to generate and supply electricity in commercial and other applications.
4. Module is rated by a dc power output = 100 to 320 Watts.
5. Solar cells collect portion of sun's energy and by using power tracker and converts it into voltage.
6. Collected energy is used for future use.
7. Whole system is on a continuous feedback loop, enabling the vehicle partially recharge while in
use.

Increase in Efficiency
The efficiency increases due to following reasons:
1. Charging the battery while running through solar radiations.
2. The chassis is made by the high strength light density material i.e. AISI-1020 carbon steel.
3. The controller of the motor is also interfaced with the ardunio which extract minimum current
from the battery by running motor on different current variables for different types of loading on
the vehicle.
