INSPIRING MINDS AND TRANSFORMING LIVES

As a Jesuit Catholic university, John Carroll has inspired individuals to excel in learning, leadership, and
service. For 130 years, the University has served an important and transformational role for our 42,431
students. Those who graduate from John Carroll are significantly different people when they walk across
the stage in front of Rodman Hall compared to when they enroll. What happens to them in four years is
what makes John Carroll special. We hear regularly from loyal and passionate graduates who share their
stories about how their John Carroll experience prepared them for a fulfilling professional life; enabled
them to prosper financially; and helped them develop the confidence to pursue their passions, serve their
communities, and lead healthy lives.
In October 2015, we conducted a national undergraduate alumni survey to measure alumni engagement
and the satisfaction resulting from a John Carroll degree. The previous national alumni survey, conducted
in 2009, focused on ways alumni wished to be engaged with, and communicated to, by their alma mater.
What did you tell us this time? John Carroll alumni affirmed the University has been delivering on our
mission to graduate thoughtful individuals who are morally responsible and aware of the fundamental
challenges facing the world. John Carrolls academic approach is embedded in Ignatian spirituality and the
Jesuit charism founded nearly 500 years ago. The University learning goals - intellect, character, leadership,
and service - have been part of our culture all along. This is exemplified by the percentage of alumni who
have succeeded as leaders at work, in life, and in service to their communities. Alumni responded by telling
us the John Carroll experience played a role a critical role for many in preparing them for life.
This direct feedback provides us with important information we can use to make the University stronger
and a more strategic educational institution. The data will serve as a foundation for planning and
budgeting and for connecting faculty, staff, and alumni to the community in ways that serve current and
future students. We plan to keep the dialogue going by reaching out to you every five years and using
your feedback to measure success, which will enable us to make more data-informed decisions.
This report highlights the major data points shared by alumni. If you have questions or feedback or
want to see the entire survey results, e-mail us at alumni@jcu.edu or call the Office of Alumni Relations
at 216-397-4336 or toll free at 800-736-ALUM (2586). Onward on John Carroll
