By CHLOE VELTMAN

Wondering what to do this weekend? We have you covered.

Visual Art | “Reinventing Ritual: Contemporary Art and Design for Jewish Life”

The Contemporary Jewish Museum’s new exhibition features nearly 60 works by emerging and
established artists. The pieces on display put a new spin on practices like kosher cuisine and
candle lighting. The installation art, video and jewelry was created over the last decade by
artists like Oreet Ashery, Helène Aylon, Deborah Grant, Sigalit Landau, Virgil Marti and Lella
Vignelli. Through Oct. 3 at the Contemporary Jewish Museum, 736 Mission Street, San
Francisco. The museum is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, except Thursday, when it is open
from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Wednesday, when it is closed.

This five-day event, organized by the University of California, Santa Cruz, features works by 30

performer, she cut her teeth as a rock singer before beginning her career as a fado artist. Ms.

her music is influenced by Marvin Gaye and Nina Simone, her backing trio consists of a 12

Fine Arts Theatre, 3301 Lyon Street, San Francisco.
