Job Purpose

To control and monitor all High Voltage, (HV) , Medium Voltage(MV), Turbines/generators, Low Voltage
( LV), wet systems networks, structural works, critical equipment and systems for which Dubai Airport has
control, and implement safe systems of work danger, for reliable operation above systems. To approve
and authorise any work on electrical and safety critical asset / system. Manage the authorization and
permit to work system in accordance with the electrical safety rules and other safety rules.
Overview of DA electrical system via SCADA, BMS and is the Authorised Control Person, providing 24/7
cover for the Operation & Maintenance activities on all DA assets of electrical power, Chiller Plant/ Water
Network & Chemical Treatment process teams, civil , Fire fighting system & safety critical systems in
building automation & security, surveillance systems.

Minimum Qualifications/Education/Experience/Training/Knowledge

Qualifications and Education:
The job holder would be expected to have a Bachelors degree or equivalent in electrical engineering, and
a recognised qualification in Health and Safety i.e. OSHA or NEBOSH.
Experience:
At least 15-20 years experience in electrical engineering control and distribution systems in a complex
environment of which a minimum 15 years should be at a senior level. Previous experience of operating a
permit to work system within an electrical distribution system environment is essential.

Training:
Developmental training is required in any area for professional development and/or mandatory purposes.
Knowledge:
Principles and practices of electrical engineering including electrical distribution and control systems
Understanding of the principles of Safe Systems of Work (SSOW)
Detailed knowledge of the Dubai Airports Safety Rules, SSOW and Permit to Work System
Understanding of applicable legal and safety requirements
Engineering standards as applicable to an airport operation
Dubai Airports business objectives and key stakeholders
Relevant engineering compliance and regulations including airfield regulations
Proficiency in English language
Use of Maximo for work management
Good knowledge of computer applications

Responsible for shift operation of the control centre, issue of permits and
release of equipment. Responsible for releasing circuits (implementing the
shutdown process) in accordance with planned requirements and emergency
situations

Job holder is expected to act as an expert in safety control engineering matters within the scope of the
role. Is required to test and certify technical staff who will work on electrical & other safety critical

Customers and stakeholders of the airport ( Dubai Duty Free, Emirates, dnata staff, ES

Representatives of DEWA when incoming switching is required / undertaken
External Engineering Service providers working on ES electrical and utility equipment
EP projects personnel and their contractors

The job is concerned with establishing and operating a safe system of work for all electrical & safety
critical work carried out within the boundaries of the airport. The job holder takes responsibility for
ensuring that the safety rules are known understood and followed by all external and internal persons
working on airport assets.
The job role and the associated SSOW are designed to control risk, minimise hazards and eliminate the
practice of live working.

The job holder will spend the majority of his/her time working in an air conditioned control room
environment but will be expected to visit sites within the airport where work is carried out; this can be in
external or internal areas and can be subject to hazards due to building engineering works
The job will be expected to respond at any time to any emergency or unforeseen events which affect the
safe operation of airport services.
