Question 1: How does the redesigned curriculum enable educators to

provide a flexible learning environment?

More opportunities to collaborate in groups


Real world/life experiences
More flexibility to choose topics/interest to research
Weaves in more intrinsic motivation
Learning spaces and materials that accommodate a variety of
learners and learning needs (quiet areas, wiggle seats)
Classrooms are more open to having all students from different
classrooms for activities/lessons at their level
By focusing more on how students learn rather than what they
are learning
Starting with the big idea
Less learning standards (allowing students to individualize their
learning)
Focus on passions
Focus on the assessment piece
Community of classrooms
Student driven based on their interest
Not the same finish line for everyone
Learning the process NOT the facts
More SKILL driven, also processes than content

Question 2: Share 1 idea on how you might provide a more personal


learning environment that includes a variety of learners in your
classroom?

Knee to knee, eye to eye


Variety of methods to show work
Embrace tech (cellphones) to using them changes the medium of
communication
A variety of materials to help students learn in different ways
(wiggle seats, quiet areas) and the wall with neutral wall colours
As an EA with a student that present output difficulty I encourage
him to use his personal device (ipad) to participate
Supporting and organising peer greeters and game players for a
student

Provide visuals at all times when teaching/communicating with


students
Break down steps and use graphic organisers to help students
organise their ideas/thoughts
Think/pair/share accept all ideas without judgement
Task students with high skills to engage my students in a
prescribed learning activity
4 corners: students stand at four corners of the room to share
about how they feel about an issue in SS (i.e. I strongly agree...I

about their traditional way of life after completing Salish
together
We can be more expansive in our ideas and methodologies
Competencies are for ALL learners. All learners can question and
predict the big ideas should be reached by all in some way

I currently do mind up breathing with my class but it is fading
and another teacher talked to me about calming the whole class
with yoga and different adaptations to carpet time

Focus more on the process and skills rather than the content that
I have to teach
The new curriculum will provide more opportunities to support
diverse learners
