supported platinum group metal (preferably platinum) and tin, the former being
present in the range between 0.05 and 1
wt.%, and the second layer comprising
of a supported platinum group metal,
preferably platinum, in the same concentration range, together with rhenium. This
catalyst combination is claimed to give
higher BTX (benzene, toluene and xylene) yields as well as increased C,,
yields.
The U.S. Secretary of the Army has
claimed (U.S. Patent 4 661 179) a process for treating the liquor from the production of explosives to remove waste
explosives by hydrogenating the solution
in hydrogen at 50-120C
in the presence of Pt, Pd, Ni or a Raney Ni catalyst.
The resultant liquor can easily be disposed of.
The Halcon S.D. Group claim (U.S. Patent 4 66 1 337) a catalyst for the production of hydrogen peroxide from hydrogen
and oxygen. The catalyst, preferably 25% Pd on carbon or silica, is suspended
in acidic aqueous solution. The resultant
H202 solution is claimed to be stronger
than that prepared using conventional
methods. A similar set of claims is made
by Du Pont de Nemours Co. in U.S. Patent 4 68 1 75 1, the catalyst being palladium on adsorbent carbon; in this case,
the process is conducted in aqueous solution in the presence of up to 2 wt.% of
organic components at high pressure.
Toyota Jidosha K.K. have patented a
monolithic catalyst with a partial a-alumina coating. This is formed by applying
an activated alumina coating, loading
metal components which facilitate the
formation of a-alumina onto those parts
on which the a-alumina is required, and
finally calcining at 800-1000C.
Platinum, palladium or rhodium are then deposited on the resultant material.
Mitsushita Electrial Industries K.K. have
claimed (Japanese Applications 62/ 136
234 and 136 235) a catalyst for waste
gas purification which is prepared by de-
applied
