POST-OPERATIVE SURGICAL INSTRUCTIONS
WOUND CARE- bite firmly on the gauze, remove it gently
with clean fingers. (DO NOT SMOKE FOR 12HRS) because it
will interfere with healing.
BLEEDING- if bleeding begins again, place a small
cotton/gauze directly over the tooth socket and bite firmly for
30 minutes to prevent bleeding. Do not bite your
lips/cheeks/tongue if anethesia is still in effect.
DISCOMFORT- it is normal but it can be controlled but not
eliminated by taking the prescribed pain medication. Eat a
small amount of food before taking your pain medicine. Do
not drink alcohol while taking the medicine.
DIET- do not drink in straw and do not eat/drink hot
food/water(this may promote bleeding) .Eat normal regular
meals as soon as possible after the surgery. COLD AND SOFT
FOOD SUCH ICE CREAM.
ORAL HYGIENE- dont brush your teeth for 12 hrs after
surgery. After 12 hrs rinse gently with warm water and salt
every 4 hrs and brush your teeth gentle but avoid the area of
surgery.
SWELLING- swelling after surgery is normal body reaction, it
may happen for maximum of 48hrs or usually 5-7 days.
Applying ice pack over the area of surgery for the 1st (12 hrs)
helps to control swelling and it can be controlled by taking the
prescribed antibiotic medication.
REST- avoid activity for 12hrs after surgery it may increases
heart rate/blood flow and pressure that cause bleeding.
BRUISING- you may experience mild bruising in the area of
surgery/corner of the mouth. This is normal response in some
persons and should not be a cause of alarm. It will disappear
in 7-14 days. Apply betadine/hydrogen peroxide in the area
that has bruising.
STIFFNESS- after surgery, you may experience jaw muscle
stiffness and limited opening of your mouth. This is normal
and it will improve in 5-10 days disappear in 7-14 days.

OFFICE IF ANY OF THE FF OCCURS: -excessive pain and
discomfort; -you cant control the bleeding; you experience
swelling for more than 7 days and you feel that you develop
