CRITERIA FOR EVALUATION AT THE “SPEAKING” CONTEST
Evaluation will be divided into 2 tasks, a general and a specific one.
TASK 1: Students will be given a handout containing two pictures, and they
will be required to:
• Describe
• Compare and contrast
• Speculate on their content
Time awarded: 3 minutes
The aim of this task is establish the students’ level of linguistic competence
according to the criteria in the common European framework (B1, B2, C1),
hereby attached.

TASK 2: Students will watch some excerpts from a movie, based on which
they will perform a group task.
The groups of pupils will be made up of no more than 4, with 2 assessors.
Time awarded: 10 to 15 minutes (preparation and performance)

 CRITERIA FOR DIVIDING PUPILS IN TASK ONE

1. TASK ONE: PICTURES

-B1 - can connect phrases in a simple way in order to describe a picture that they

see for the first time;

- can briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions;

- can construct phrases , but is not able to use complex language and

adequate vocabulary.

- B2 - can present clear detailed description on a wide range of subjects related to

their fields of interest;

- can have, explain and sustain a viewpoint on a topical issue;

- can construct extended discourse, having fluent ideas, but still being

inaccurate at times.

- C1 - can present clear, detailed descriptions of complex subjects, giving

arguments and examples sustaining my opinions;

- accurate language (correctness and fluency);

- appropriate linguistic resources.
