VERTICAL SLURRY PUMPS
MODEL: CVP-80-302-50 SA (HC)

CREATIVE ENGINEERS
MANUAL FOR CVP RANGE PUMPS
INSTALLATION
Smaller Sump Pumps are intended to be either suspended by the
accompanying lifting handle or anchored to e.g. steel beams. The larger
units, from the CVP- 150 330-150 and larger, are intended solely for
permanent installation. Enlarged base plate and discharge pipes are available
as extra accessories for all pumps to be used in stationary installations. The
pumps must always be installed in such a manner that the pipelines do not
transmit stresses to the pump, either in the cold or warm state. If the pumps
are suspended freely from the lifting handle, the discharge line must consist
of a flexible hose. The pumps are not self-priming, which means that the
pump casing must be filled when the pump is started. Once the pump is
pumping, it has good suction capacity up to 2-3m. Pumps with semi-open
impellers should not be used with suction pipes.
When pumping slurries with a strong tendency to settle, the pump casing
with spray holes is recommended. Pumps CVP-213-80 and larger can also
be equipped with a special cutter for maximum agitation. The pump casing
should be located max. 300mm from the bottom of the sump, which should
be designed to avoid dead spots. Contact Creative engineers for more
detailed recommendations. Note that the pumps bearing cylinder may not
be submerged.

DRIVE EQUIPMENT
The CVP Pumps are normally V-Belt driven in order to prevent adjustment
of shaft speed to existing data. General instructions for V-Belt drive are
provided separately
Standard base-mounted electric motors are placed on the adjustable motors
shelf. The table gives the largest motors size (4 pole motors in accordance
with IEC dimension) that will fit on the shelf.

Pumps with direct coupled motors: see separate instruction.

START
1. Check all screws, nuts and bolts holding the pump and tighten if
necessary. They may have come loose during transport.
2. Remove all foreign objects form the sump. This is particularly important
if the pump has rubber-lined wear parts.
3. Check that the pump shaft rotates in right direction. It should rotate anticlockwise as viewed from the drive end. Direction of rotation is also
indicated by an arrow on the bearing cylinder.
NOTE: The CVP-230-50, 301-50 and300-50 has been threaded on
impellers. If the pump is started in the wrong direction, the pump parts
may be damaged. Before checking the direction of rotation, always
disconnect the drive. Other pumps can be started in the wrong direction
without being damaged.
4. Pumps equipped with cutter have a screwed shaft end (left hand). Before
checking the direction of rotation the drive must be dismantled.
5. If the pump has been idle for a long period of time prior to starting up,
the bearing must be lubricated. See under Lubrication instruction.

CREATIVE ENGINEERS
MANUAL FOR CVP RANGE PUMPS
6. Check the coupling if direct drive is fitted refer to separate instruction.
7. Start the pump.

OPERATION
1. Check that the pump runs smoothly and without vibration.
2. Check the capacity or the pump conforms to the performance
requirement and adjust the speed if necessary.
3. Follow the lubrication instructions and instruction for V-belt drive,
including checking V-belt tension after a certain period of operation.
4. If the pump suddenly begins to vibrate violently, the most common
reason is that a large object has become jammed in the impeller and is
causing imbalance. If this happens, the pump should be stopped
immediately and the pump parts checked.
5. If the shaft is more than 3/100 mm out of the line at the impeller
fastening it must be corrected. Contact Creative Engineers for
instructions.

REPLACING WEAR PARTS

The pumps are made in two variants. Namely:
Pump casing with spray holes and semi-open impeller. This is designated
S and is available in sizes 214-80S, 280-100S, 330-150S, and 450200S.
The other variant has the same wear parts as the corresponding horizontal
pump.i.e.sizes
160-25,230/301/50,300-50,213-80,280-100,330150,450/500-200,and 5300-250.sizes 160-25 and 230/301-50/300-50
have semi-open impeller, other closed.

CREATIVE ENGINEERS
MANUAL FOR CVP RANGE PUMPS
IMPELLER ATTACHMENT
The Impeller for the CVP-230-50, 302-50 and 300-50 is threaded directly
onto the shaft with a left-hand thread.
The CHP-450-200-500-200, 500-200and 5300-250 have taper and key. For
dismantling these impellers a puller is included in the delivery.
The fastening components used to secure the impeller must be checked prior
to the impeller. The washer shall be flat and any pieces of rubber underneath
the screw head must be removed. On impellers with tapered hubs, it is
important that the tapers on both the shaft and the impeller are clean and
have the correct shape.
On occasions when the impeller has come loose during operation, it is an
absolute requirement that the taper has to be checked with a taper gauge
before a new impeller is mounted. Both impeller and shaft tapers must be
checked.
Other CVP pumps have a cylindrical guide and the torque is transmitted by
the square shaft end, which fits into the matching impeller bore. The bore is
locked to the shaft by means of a socket hex screw. The screw is locked into
the shaft by a Heli-Coil mid-Grip threaded insert with a lock turn. The screw
must always be greased before tightening with molybdenum (MoS2).
After removing the old impeller, clean the shaft end and the new impeller
before mounting. IMPORTANT! Never grind the bore! This ruins the fit and
can ruin the impeller attachment.
If the pump has to stand idle for a long period of time without the impeller
mounted, the end of the shaft should be treated against corrosion. If the
impeller is stuck on the shaft, the bearing cylinder with shaft can be pulled
upwards by means of the adjusting screws in the bearing cylinders upper
flange until the impeller comes loose from the shaft (not CVP-230-50, 30150 and300-50). Note that the shaft has to be lowered before the new impeller
is mounted.

1. The impeller is threaded directly onto the shaft with a left hand thread.
In order to be sure the impeller does not rub against the pump casing when it
is tightened, check that the shaft rotates freely after tightening. The impeller
screw is protected by a rubber-clad cap with plug. The plug must be glued
on.

PUMP CASINGG AND INLET SECTION

Rubber-lined version:
The CVP-160-25, 230-50,301-50.300-50 and all sizes with spray holes in the
pump casing have rubber-lined pump casing and inlet sections. When
necessary, the entire component must be replaced.
The CVP-213-80 and larger pumps i.e. versions with closed impeller and
casing without spray holes, have replaceable liners for the pump casing and

inlet section. Before fitting the new liner for then pump casing, pull the
outlet neck into the volute. See the illustrations below:
- Pull the liners outlet neck into the volute.
- Lubricate the liner with e.g. Water + soap and press it into the casing.
- Fix the liner in place with nuts on the four screws.
- Dont forget the metal washer before tightening the nuts.
Adjust the position of the liner in the pump casing.
If there is a risk that pumps with replaceable liners may suck air, the liner
should be glued with e.g. Tip-Top 2000.
Following normal installation, simply tuck the liner down into the casing,
wipe and wash away any lubricant and apply glue around the periphery and
upper part of the liner (towards the inlet section).
Replace the inlet liner and tighten it in the inlet section. In addition, a metal
washer and must be used at the suction flange in order to prevent the liner
from being pulled in during operation.
The CVP-5300-250 has a 2-part pump casing and lining. Fit the liner halves
in the casing. Assemble the casing halves. Dont forget the shims between
the casing halves. Before finally tightening the nuts, check that the liner
halves fit snugly together at the joint. Adjust with a plastic mallet if
necessary. The pump casing also has a wear washer, which is attached to the
lower flange of the stand pipe with four screws. Replace the entire wear
washer if necessary.

NI-HARD VERSION
Pumps equipped with ni-hard parts do not have replaceable casing liner
(except for the CVP-5300-250). The casing is replaced as a whole when
necessary. The same applies to the inlet section on pumps with spray holes
and semi-open impellers.

CREATIVE ENGINEERS
MANUAL FOR CVP RANGE PUMPS
Pumps with closed impellers (CVP-213-80 and larger) have replaceable inlet
liners.
The CVP-150, 5300-250 has a Ni-hard liner that fits into the two-part
casing. Be careful when fitting. To help guarantee a good fit, rubber packing
are used between the casing halves and the liner. When the casing halves
been tightened together, the machined sealing surface in the liner must be
even with or slightly higher than the matching surface around the rear
opening of the pump casing (towards the stand) to ensure a good seal
between the stand packing and the casing liner.

BEARING REPLACEMENT
The construction of the bearing cylinder is evident from the appropriate
spare parts list. Undo the two covers and the wiper ring. Pull the shaft out in
the direction where the spherical roller bearing is mounted. Before fitting
new bearing, heat them to 80 C. In case of the CVP150/180,360-150 and
450/500-200, the spherical roller bearing is fitted first and then the inner race
of the radial bearing. For other sizes, start with the inner race of the radial
bearing and then the spherical roller bearing. When the bearings have
cooled, insert the shaft into the bearing cylinder. Fit the outer race of the
radial bearing. Pack the bearings with grease (See also Lubrication
Instructions) and the wiper ring.

ADJUSTMENT OF CLEARANCE IN PUMP CASING

It is important for the pump that the clearance between the impellers back
blades and between the impeller and the inlet section is correct. The clearance
is adjusted in two steps: first between the back blades and the casing and then
between the impeller and inlet section. For this purpose, the shaft-bearing
cylinder is adjustable in the axial direction. This is done by means of the
screws in the bearing cylinders upper flange.
The clearance between the back blades and casing shall be:

LUBRICATION
The bearings are lubrication on delivery with Esso Beacon EP 2, which is a
lithium-based lubricating grease. Equivalent greases of other makers can be
used, but always check first whether they can be mixed with Esso Beacon
EP2.
The pump has only two lube points. These are for the two bearing housing
equipped with lubrication nipples. For pumps will bearing cylinder below the
base plate the nipples are equipped with grease tube and mounted above the
base plate. The pump shall be lubricated first after about 300 operating hours
and then in accordance with the table below, which also indicates the required
quantity of grease.

The lubrication intervals apply at bearing temperatures of to 70*C. At bearing
temperatures above 70*C, the bearing must be lubricated more frequently as
indicated in the table.
Bearing temperature of 100*C and above are harmful for the bearings and
indicate that a failure is imminent.

STORAGE OF PUMPS
If the pumps have to be stored for a long period of time before use. They
should be stored in dry, clean, well-ventilated areas without large temperature
variations. The pumps should be covered to keep off dust and dirt. If the
pumps are to be stored for longer than six months, remove V-belt drive and
electric motors and treat machined surfaces against rust. Rotate the pump shaft
a few turns at least every 3 months. If conditions are poor, this should be once
a month.

SPARE PARTS
The best way to avoid misunderstandings and prevent incorrect deliveries is to
supply as detailed information as possible. Therefore. State when ordering
spare parts.
