This Specification defines along with Marine Instruction (MI) 1197.001 the minimum
requirements for safety during diving operations.
Regulations, standards, and
instructions as specified herein shall be strictly adhered to at all times.

APPLICABLE CODES, STANDARDS, AND REFERENCES

DESCRIPTION

The U.S. Navy Diving Manual is to be used as the standard for all diving operations
being performed in the SAUDI ARAMCO concession. The latest edition, revision,
addendum, or supplement of the following Industry Codes and Standards and SAUDI
ARAMCO Instructions apply:

In addition to Section 1.2.2 of Marine Instruction Manual, Instruction No.


1197.001, where CONTRACTOR is using saturation systems or mixed gas
surface diving, CONTRACTOR shall supply SAUDI ARAMCO with up to date
manuals, stating what gas and percent of gas mixes are to be used for both
saturation diving and mixed gas surface diving, and the decompression tables
intended for use. CONTRACTOR shall take note of Section 4.3 of Marine
Instruction Manual, Instruction No. 1197.001.

In addition to Section 1.2.12 of Marine Instruction Manual, Instruction No.


1197.001, air purity tests shall be conducted at regular monthly intervals from all
high pressure (HP) and low pressure (LP) compressors, and from selected
SCUBA cylinders and air banks. A log book of all readings shall be maintained
and be available for inspection by the SAUDI ARAMCO Representative.
Additionally, a log book shall be maintained by saturation technicians that
records all work, maintenance, and repairs carried out on the saturation system.
SAUDI ARAMCO shall be informed without delay of all repair and part
replacement work carried out on any part of the saturation diving system
including diving bell, main umbilical, and environmental control units (ECUs).

CONTRACTOR's diving supervisor shall be in possession of up to date decompression

In addition to Section 5.7 of Marine Instruction Manual, Instruction No. 1197.001,


diving from an inflatable rubber boat (such as a Zodiac), or any type of small
boat at night shall only be performed within the set anchor pattern of the barge or
vessel the divers are working from. Dive boat shall carry a proper type of
boarding ladder when using hat gear to allow safe diver recovery into boat
(including rubber inflatable). Boat (including rubber inflatable) shall also carry
adequate lighting for reading of tables and gauges.
An extra diver
communications set shall also be carried, plus two way radio, of hand held type
for contact with support base.
In addition to Section 5.8 of Marine Instruction Manual, Instruction No. 1197.001,
no personnel shall be in boat (including inflatable type) when it is lifted from deck
of barge or vessel. Crew shall embark at deck level. All personnel shall wear an
approved work vest or inflation vest.

In addition to Section 11.1.14 of Marine Instruction Manual, Instruction No.


1197.001, CONTRACTOR's dive supervisors shall be responsible for seeing that
all equipment to be used by divers including tools (hydraulic or manual), clamps,
bolts, nuts, gaskets, shrouds, risers, spools, or any other item entering water for
the work is properly sized and usable. All equipment and tools shall have been
checked or operated by the dive crew on shift to ensure the diver has a
progressive working dive.

In addition to Section 11.2.1 of Marine Instruction Manual, Instruction No.


1197.001, diving supervisors shall be knowledgeable of all applicable codes,
standards, and references of governing bodies, the Diving Safety Manual, and
the Marine Safety Manual. CONTRACTOR shall comply with all amendments
that have been published and recommended up to date of the work being
performed.
CONTRACTOR shall incorporate any updates and
recommendations by the Diving Medical Advisory Committee and AODC
pertaining to the rules and regulations laid down by the applicable agencies.

In addition to Section 12.3 of Marine Instruction Manual, Instruction No. 1197.001, diving
supervisor shall ensure that at the end of each shift copies of all dive sheets and
decompression sheets (chamber logs) are submitted to the SAUDI ARAMCO office on
site. All dive sheets for dives shall be completed in detail during the dive including air,
mixed gas, and saturation sheets. All dive details shall be recorded on these sheets.
Should the diving supervisor fill in a log book and then transfer some of the information
to the dive sheets, the log books shall be make available to SAUDI ARAMCO on
request.

9.1

In addition to Section 15.2 of Marine Instruction Manual, Instruction No.


1197.001, for air, mixed gas, or saturation diving equipment and systems where
high pressure gasses or air are reduced to a working pressure, regulators for life
support systems shall be used. Types used for reducing pressures of industrial
gas cylinders shall not be used.

In addition to Section 15.8 of Marine Instruction Manual, Instruction No.


1197.001, CONTRACTOR shall ensure that all equipment and gauges contain
identification numbers and date of last test. Gauges shall include all gauges
supplying breathing mixtures to divers or measuring pressures at which they are
operating.
