About the Roland-PrintServer
The Roland-PrintServer makes it possible to connect printers and other devices from Roland DG Corp.
via Ethernet and use them in a network environment. There are two types: one built in to the printer or the
like, and an external type. It is compatible with 100Base TX and 10Base T (switched automatically).
* The usable features of the Roland-PrintServer are dependent on the printer it is combined with. Not all functions may be available for use.

1. Getting Started
Overview of Settings
The software RIP packed with a printer uses the TCP/IP.
Setup Sequence
Step 1
Enable the TCP/IP protocol for Windows or Macintosh, and make the settings for the IP
address and the like.
Step 2
Set the IP address and the like for the Roland-PrintServer.
Step 3
Set the output port and the like for the software RIP.
Important! The explanations in this section assume a small-scale network using a single hub.
In a large network, unsuitable settings may have a major impact on the functioning of
the entire network. Decide on setting values only after careful discussion with the
network's administrator.

* Here, "XXX" may be any number you want
from 1 to 254. However, be sure to specify a
number that does not duplicate a number used
for another computer or device.

Roland-PrintServer Reference
For detailed information about the features of the Roland-PrintServer, refer to the "Roland-PrintServer
User Manual" on the Roland-PrintServer CD-ROM. This is a manual in electronic format (PDF format).
To view it, install and set up Adobe Acrobat Reader.
* The usable features of the Roland-PrintServer are dependent on the printer it is combined with. Not all functions may be available for use.
What to do if...
Printing over the network is not possible.
Make sure both green lights on the Roland-PrintServer are illuminated.
* If you're using a built-in type, the green lights are next to the Ethernet connector.
If one green light is dark, switch off the power to the printer (the main power) or the Roland-PrintServer.
Again switch on the power and check the green lights.
If one green light remains dark even after you reset the power, it means the Ethernet cable connection is
not suitable. Make sure it is securely inserted all the way, as far as it will go. Also, try replacing the cable
with a new one. Make sure that the crossover and straight cables are used correctly. (If the connection is
made through a hub, use straight cables.)
If one green light is flashing, it means the Roland-PrintServer settings are not suitable. Try making the
settings for the IP address and the like again. If this does not correct the problem, reset the RolandPrintServer and make the settings again. The resetting method is described on the next page in this document.
Both green lights are illuminated, but printing is not possible.
Make sure the settings for the IP address and the like are appropriate. The network connection will not be
made if the appropriate settings are not made both on the computer and on the Roland-PrintServer. Try
making the settings again as you check for duplicate IP addresses and typing errors.
Check the port setting for the software RIP. In the software RIP, specify the IP address assigned to the
Roland-PrintServer.
Make sure the network routing is suitable. Try connecting the computer and the Roland-PrintServer to
the same hub, or connecting then directly using a crossover cable. If this makes it possible to perform
printing, it means the problem is in the network itself.
