OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING
The officer involved in the March 25, 2016, officer-involved shooting that occurred in the 600 block of
National Highway has been identified as Officer Dustin C. Gallimore.
Officer Gallimore is 30-years-old and has been employed with the Thomasville Police Department since
January 2015, where he is currently assigned to the Field Operations Bureau. Officer Gallimore has been
placed on routine paid administrative leave pending the investigation by the North Carolina State
Bureau of Investigation and a review by the Professional Standards Bureau of the Thomasville Police
Department.
On March 25, 2016, Thomasville officers received information about an individual who had warrants for
his arrest walking in the area of National Highway. At 7:21 p.m., a Thomasville patrol officer located an
individual walking in the 600 block of National Highway that fit the description of the wanted person.
The preliminary investigation shows the officer pulled over and exited his vehicle in an attempt to make
contact with the individual that was walking just ahead of the patrol vehicle. The individual charged at
the officer while armed with a knife. The officer retreated behind the patrol vehicle, however, the
individual was still charging at him and closing in. At 7:22 p.m., the officer reported that shots had been
fired. The officer immediately called for EMS and at 7:25 p.m., Davidson County EMS arrived on the
scene. The individual was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center where he is currently listed
in critical but stable condition. The officer was not injured.
The suspect has been identified as Gene Oxendine Jr., 29, of 103 Jewell Street, Thomasville. Oxendine, at
the time of the shooting, had outstanding warrants for felonious breaking and entering, felonious
larceny after breaking and entering, two counts of assault on a female, two counts of habitual
misdemeanor assault, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and injury to personal property.
The investigation is continuing and additional charges are pending. We will disseminate additional
information as it becomes available.
