What is Give India ?

A fundraising tool that enables anyone to raise funds for a cause that matters to
them. It lets you reach out to friends and family anywhere in the world. Is easy
and convenient to use, both for you and for the people donating to your cause.
What we do ?
GiveIndia is a donation platform that allows you to support a cause of your
choice from about 200 NGOs that have been scrutinised for transparency &
credibility.
We do not raise funds for ourselves. We help you donate to these NGOs.
We tell you exactly where your money went and also give you proof of it through
a feedback report. (except in the case of donations through an iGive page) We
ensure that at least 90% of your contribution reaches the organization you
support (as against the average of 60% for the NGO sector).
We have reviewed over 3,000 non-profit organizations from all over India to
identify over 200 organizations that have met with the GiveIndia's Listing
Criteria. They work for causes ranging from child welfare and education to
disability, poverty, and women's empowerment to name a few.
Conceived by Venkat Krishnan, an IIM-A graduate in December 1999, GiveIndia is
managed by a team of professionals who have earlier worked with various
corporates and now have dedicated their careers to making a difference.
We got registered on April 28, 2000, as a non-profit under section 25 of the
Companies Act, 1956, in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
How GiveIndia works ?
Once you decide how youd like to make a difference by donating to
a donation option(s) on the site, we send you a tax receipt for your charity
donation and send your money to your chosen NGO. After detailed
consideration, the beneficiary is identified by your chosen NGO and the money is
utilized as per your chosen donation option. We track every donation and
ensure that the NGO sends us a feedback report with details about which poor
Indians life you have changed and how; which we then pass on to you.

You decide how to make a difference by choosing a Donation Option.

Step 3:
GiveIndia sends a receipt (that can be used for tax purposes) and allocates the
amount to your chosen NGO.
Step 4:
After details consideration the beneficiary is identified by your chosen NGO and
the money is utilized as per your chosen donation option.
Step 5:
We track every donation and ensure that the NGO sends us a report with details
about the beneficiary.

GiveIndia then emails the feedback report to you. (except in the case of
donations through an iGive page)
Give Indias Mission and philosophy:
Our mission
To promote efficient and effective giving that provides greater opportunities to
the poor in India.
Our vision A strong "giving" culture where Indians donate 2% of their income every year to
give the poor a chance. A vibrant "philanthropy marketplace" to ensure that the
most efficient and effective nonprofits get access to the most resources.
The need for a "giving culture"
Underlying everything Givendia does is the belief that equity or "equal
opportunity" is the cornerstone to civilization. Every human being must have
roughly the same opportunity to succeed in life, irrespective of where or how
s/he is born.
Unfortunately, this tends to not be true. The last two decades have witnessed a
widening of the gap between the rich and poor in India. While the poor in India
don't get a fair chance to succeed in life (lack of access to decent education,
healthcare and livelihood opportunities), the well-off continue to enjoy benefits
from a globalising economy- greater incomes, reducing taxes, 100% inheritance,
etc. The net result is a ticking time-bomb of growing social unrest.
GiveIndia believes that a caring and sensitive well-to-do section can change this
without waiting for the situation to explode. To quote Prof William Sundstrom, "?

although the pursuit of distributive justice is often thought to require a political

or collective response, we should not allow this to let us off the hook when it
comes to personal morality. Each of us could probably afford to give much more
to private, charitable efforts to alleviate poverty and suffering. Indeed, given the
failure of our political leaders to provide anywhere near an adequate response,
private action has become indispensable."
Two aspects of a "giving culture" contribute to making a difference[a] Greater sensitivity and caring

Giving promotes heightened sensitivity among the givers. It forces us to be
aware of the existence of the poor, acknowledge our own good fortune and
creates a sense of duty towards those less fortunate.
[b] Availability of resources
If Indians gave back to society in the same proportion as Americans do, we could
be donating Rs 60,000 crores a year to help those in need! As against this, all
reasonable estimates of giving in India vary between Rs 1,000-5,000 crores p.a.
When Can GiveIndia be used?
iGive can be used by anyone to celebrate birthdays, wedding and other
occasions.
How can an NGO benefit from iGive?
Fundraising for NGOs has never been so easy as it is with iGive.

How is GiveIndia different from other NGOs?

Here are some of the things that make us unique:
1. We do not raise funds for ourselves, but offer you the chance to donate to any
of a wide range of NGOs that have cleared specific norms of credibility and
accountability.

2. We work hard to keep our cost of fundraising down to a single digit - 9.1%
(6.5% for iGive donations). Most other funding intermediary organisations spend
between 20-50% on fundraising.
3. We offer you a wide range of 'donation options' from NGOs working on a
variety of causes.
4. GiveIndia provides you with in-depth details of NGOs listed with us.
5. GiveIndia sends you a feedback report on every donation** you make. This
feedback contains details about the beneficiary and that lets you know how your
money has made a difference.
** Except for the Marathon, during which we list NGOs chosen by runners, and
hence do not provide feedbacks for donations to these NGOs and in the case of
iGive projects that are not certified by us and are put up directly by the page
owners.
Who manages GiveIndia?
GiveIndia is owned and managed by GIVE Foundation, a nonprofit organisation
dedicated to raising funds for good NGOs in India.
GIVE Foundation was set up by Venkat Krishnan, an IIM-A graduate who
previously worked with the Times Group and Sony TV.

What do you mean by a GiveIndia listed NGO?

A GiveIndia certified NGO has cleared stringent norms of credibility and
accountability. We have a thorough, transparent and objective selection process
for the NGOs profiled on our site.
Here are some of the criteria we use for selection:
Organisations must be registered nonprofits that implement social development
projects in India, with no political affiliations.
At least 50% of their beneficiaries must be economically underprivileged.
Organisations must be unbiased in their beneficiary selection i.e. non religious /
non political.

The organisation must be willing to create donation options and provide prompt
feedback for the donations.
