- Caron Simply Soft Yarn (6oz/170g/315yd/288m): Off White (1
skein), Sunshine (1 skein), Orchid (some), Soft Pink (some)
- Red Heart Soft Yarn (5oz/141g/256yd/234m): Tangerine (some)
- Crochet Hook Size US F5 (3.75mm)
- Black Safety Eyes size 6mm (1 pair)
- Poly Fiberfill
- Scissors
- Large-eye Blunt Needle

Hatching Easter Chick

Crochet Pattern

Final Size & Gauge:

Approximate size: Width 2.75 x Height 3.5.
Exact gauge is not important in this project.
Abbreviations:
ch chain stitch
sc single crochet
2sc 2 single crochet into the same stitch, increment
sc2tog decrease two stitches into one stitch
sl slip stitch
sk skip stitch
hdc half double crochet
tr treble crochet
Notes:
1. Hatching Easter Chick is made from 5 pieces (Chick, Beak, 2
Wings, Eggshell), following the steps below to assemble.
2. Each piece is worked in continuous rounds. Do not turn at
end of rounds.
3. Number in bracket represents the number of stitches
completed after each round.

Pattern Steps:
1. Make the chick (body and head), insert safety eyes, stuff.
2. Make the beak, sew to head of chick.
3. Make the wings, sew to body of chick.
4. Make the eggshell.
5. Fit the chick into the eggshell.

Beak
Round 1: With tangerine color yarn, make 4sc with magic ring
method. (4)
Round 2: (sc 1, 2sc) for 2 times. (6)
Sew beak in between eyes, on Round 19.
Wing (Make 2)
Round 1: With sunshine color yarn, make 6sc with magic ring
method. (6)
Round 2: (sc 2, 2sc) for 2 times. (8)
Round 3: (sc 3, 2sc) for 2 times. (10)
Round 4: sc each stitch. (10) Sl on next stitch, leave long tail and
cut yarn, pull tight. The long tail will be used to sew wing to
head.
Repeat steps to make second wing.
Sew wings to chick, on the curve-in area on both sides.

Chick

Note: Body and head of chick is completed in one piece.

Round 1: With sunshine color yarn, make 6sc with magic ring
method. (6)
Round 2: 2sc in each stitch. (12)
Round 3: (sc 1, 2sc) for 6 times. (18)
Round 4: (sc 2, 2sc) for 6 times. (24)
Round 5: sc each stitch. (24)
Round 6: (sc 3, 2sc) for 6 times. (30)
Round 7: sc each stitch. (30)
Round 8: (sc 4, 2sc) for 6 times. (36)
Round 9-12: sc each stitch. (36)
Round 13: (sc 4, sc2tog) for 6 times. (30)
Round 14: (sc 3, sc2tog) for 6 times. (24)
Round 15: (sc 2, sc2tog) for 6 times. (18) Stuff body with poly
fiberfill.
Round 16: (sc 1, 2sc) for 9 times. (27)
Round 17: (sc 8, 2sc) for 3 times. (30)
Round 18-21: sc each stitch. (30) Insert 6mm safety eyes between
Round 19 and 20, with 6 stitches apart.
Round 22: (sc 3, sc2tog) for 6 times. (24)
Round 23: (sc 2, sc2tog) for 6 times. (18)
Round 24: (sc 1, sc2tog) for 6 times. (12) Stuff head with poly
fiberfill.
Round 25: sc2tog for 6 times. (6) Sl on next stitch, cut yarn, pull
tight and hide remaining yarn into the head.

Eggshell
Round 1-4: Same as making Chick, but use off white color yarn.
Round 5: (sc 3, 2sc) for 6 times. (30)
Round 6: Change to orchid color yarn, sc each stitch. (30)
Round 7: Change to soft pink yarn, (sc 4, 2sc) for 6 times. (36)
Round 8: sc each stitch. (36)
Round 9: Change to orchid color yarn, (sc 5, 2sc) for 6 times. (42)
Round 10: Change to off white yarn, sc each stitch (42)
Round 11: (sc 12, sc2tog) for 3 times. (39)
Round 12: sc each stitch. (39)
Round 13: {sk 1, (hdc 1, tr 1, hdc 1) on the next st, sk 1, sl 1} for 9
times, sk 1, (hdc 1, tr 1, hdc 1) on next st, sl 1. (40)
Hide all tails when changing color within the eggshell.
Finishing
Fit the chick into the eggshell to complete the final look of
Hatching Easter Chick.
