Introduction

Revelation 20:11-15 11And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from
whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for
them.12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were
opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were
judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their
works.13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up
the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their
works.14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second
death.15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake
of fire.
It is my conviction according to the Scriptures that there will not be a general
judgment. The judgment of sin took place when Jesus Christ shed His innocent blood on
Calvary (John 12:31). As believers, we have the ability to judge ourselves through the
Scriptures and convicting power of the Holy Spirit (I Corinthians 11:31). Self-judgment
avoids chastisement but if neglected, the Lord judges, and the result is chastisement
(Hebrews 12:5-11; Proverbs 3:11-12;), not condemnation (Romans 8:1; John 5:24). The
Judgment Seat of Christ (Romans 14:10-12; II Corinthians 5:10; I Corinthians 3:10-15)
will occur following the Rapture of the Church (I Thessalonians 4:13-18; I Corinthians
15:51-55; II Thessalonians 2:1; Revelation 4:1) and is strictly the judgment of believers
for rewards or loss of rewards for service in their Christian life. The Judgment of the
Nations will occur at the return of Christ (Matthew 13:40-43, 49-50; Matthew 25:31-46)
as well as the judgment of Israel (Ezekiel 20:37). The angels also will be judged (Jude 6).
Our God is a longsuffering and merciful God. We read the wonderful word whosoever
in several places speaking of Gods great all call for sinners to be saved by His glorious
grace!
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that
whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 4:14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never
thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing
up into everlasting life.
Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be
saved.
The same word whosoever in the comforting verses listed above carries condemnation
in the verses listed below.
James 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point,
he is guilty of all.
Revelation 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was
cast into the lake of fire.
Throughout the Word of God we see how fallen and sinful men have continually sinned
against a Holy God, broken His commandments, rebelled against His Word, and rejected

His free gift of salvation offered to all that call upon Him. Yet even in the most
disastrous, dangerous, and desperate times God still offers and provides an opportunity
for lost people to be saved. The Bible speaks of the number of those who will be saved
during the Tribulation in Revelation 7:9 After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude,
which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood
before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their
hands;.
We come to this text in the Book of Revelation after the Lord Jesus Christ has come with
His saints to defeat the armies of the beast and the kings of earth at the Battle of
Armagedon (Revelation 19), the Judgment of the Nations (Matthew 25:31-46; Matthew
13:40-41) and the millennial reign of the Lord Jesus Christ (Revelation 20:4-6). During
this literal 1,000-year period Satan will be bound (Revelation 20:2-3) and the whole earth
will be full of the knowledge of the Lord (Isaiah 11:9). Satan is loosed for a little
season and we tragically read that multitudes of people the number of whom is as the
sand of the sea follow after Satan for one last rebellion against God (Revelation 20:710). The Great White Throne Judgment will happen after the millennial reign and before
the eternal state just as the Word of God clearly describes.
To reiterate my position according to the Scriptures this final judgment, the Great White
Throne Judgment, we read in Revelation 20:11-15 is for unbelievers. This is the
judgment for all those who have rejected Gods plan of salvation and will receive their
rightful and eternal place in the lake of fire according to their works. All who stand
before this judgment will be condemned and cast into the lake of fire. Therefore,
believers will be PRESENT at the Great White Throne Judgment but not
PARTICIPANTS (Romans 8:1; John 5:24; John 3:16-18,36; Hebrews 10:17) because the
Lord Jesus Christ is the judge (John 5:22) and wherever He goes we will go (I
Thessalonians 4:17).

The Characteristics of the Great White Throne Judgment

Revelation 20:11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face
the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
SINGLENESSa
This may seem elementary but I believe it is worth noting that there is only one throne in
this vision. Throughout the ages people have denied the fact that their lives will be
judged. They have willingly ignored the Lord Jesus Christ and His marvelous grace He
has extended to all mankind. At this final judgment there will only be one throne. There
will not be another throne to come before. There will be no loo polls, exemptions, or
delays. Anyone who has not accepted the Lord Jesus Christ will be condemned at this
judgment.
SIZEgreat
There have been people throughout history who have been given the man made title of
being great. Alexander the Great is considered by historians to be one of the greatest
military leaders of all time. There have been events throughout history that we consider
great, such as the Great Depression in the 1930s. The Great Wall of China stands as a
marvel of construction. Yet none of the things man has considered great will be able to
match this great white throne! Every unregenerate sinner who considered the things of
this world to be of great stature or importance will realize the insignificance of those
things in respect to the greatness of this throne and our God!
SHADEwhite
The color white speaks of holiness, purity, and righteousness. Many people, even some
who profess to be Christians, only think of God as a God of love, mercy, and grace.
While God is all of those things we must not leave out holy, righteous, and just! There is
no rainbow at this throne. As believers we can come boldly unto the throne of grace,
but here there is no grace, no mercy, no hope, no forgiveness, just swift and sure
judgment.
SOVEREIGNTYand him that sat on it,
There is only one sitting on this throne and it is none other than the Lord Jesus Christ.
John 5:22 For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto
the Son:
Those who died without Christ and rejected His gift of salvation will stand without
excuse. The scoffers and blasphemers who have said ,We will not have this man to reign
over us, will be stricken with fear in the presence of the King of kings and Lord of lords.
This is not the lowly servant from Nazareth but the omnipotent God in all His glory.
SETTINGfrom whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found
no place for them.

We see this verse in comparison to other Scriptures describing the destroying of the first
earth and heavens.
II Peter 3:7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are
kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of
ungodly men.
II Peter 3:10:12 10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in
the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall
melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be
burned up.11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of
persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,12 Looking for and
hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire
shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
Matthew 24:35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass
away.
The first earth and heaven will be destroyed before the Great White Throne Judgment.
Those who have laid up treasure here on earth, sought earthly fortunes, fame, and
furnishings will not be able to depend or dwell upon those things because it will be
destroyed. There will be no place to hide or any object to hinder their attention in the
presence of the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Crowd of the Great White Throne Judgment

CONDEMNEDv.12a And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God:
v.13aAnd the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the
dead which were in them:
We know that those who are judged at the Great White Throne Judgment are unsaved
because they are not part of the first resurrection. Those judged here will not have power
over the second death.
Revelation 20:6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on
such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of
Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.
I Thessalonians 4:16-17 16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with
a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead
in Christ shall rise first:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up
together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever
be with the Lord.
We clearly see in this passage of Scripture that ONLY the dead in Christ are
resurrected and that those Christians who are alive and remain shall be caught up
together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: What about those dead who
are not in Christ?
Revelation 20:5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years
were finished. This is the first resurrection.
Those unsaved, the rest of the dead will be resurrected following the Tribulation and
the millennial reign of Christ on earth.
John 5:29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection
of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
This is the resurrection of damnation of all unsaved from all generations. The Bible says
that dead both small and great will be judged. Regardless of the prosperity or poverty
all unbelievers will be judged.
Psalm 7:9 Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end; but establish the
just: for the righteous God trieth the hearts and reins.
Psalm 1:6 For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the
ungodly shall perish.
CHRISTv.11 and him v.12 stand before God
As we have mentioned the judge is the Lord Jesus Christ.
John 5:22 For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto
the Son:

Acts 17:31 Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the
world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath
given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.
Romans 2:16 In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ
according to my gospel.
CONVERTED
The Word of God gives the believer encouragement in knowing that at the time of the
Rapture those who and saved by the grace of God will forever be with the Lord Jesus
Christ!
I Thessalonians 4:17Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up
together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever
be with the Lord.
Therefore, for all eternity, wherever the Lord Jesus Christ goes, we will be with Him. At
the Rapture the saved will be go through the Judgment Seat of Christ while the rest of the
world will be in the Tribulation period. The saints will come with the Lord Jesus Christ
at the end of the Tribulation, live and reign with Him on earth during the millennial reign,
and be in attendance at the Great White Throne Judgment not as the sentenced but rather
as spectators. At the Great White Throne Judgment there is ONLY condemnation. As
believers we will not receive condemnation for our sins because we have trusted Christ
and Saviour.
John 3:16-18 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son,
that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.17 For
God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world
through him might be saved.18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he
that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name
of the only begotten Son of God.
John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth
on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation;
but is passed from death unto life.
Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ
Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
Can you imagine this scene? There will only be three people who will not be present at
the Great White Throne Judgmentthe devil, the beast, and false prophet.
Revelation 20:10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire
and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented
day and night for ever and ever.

There are over 7 billion people in the world today. From Adam and Eve through today
one can only imagine how many people have lived in the world. Yet, according to the
Word of God every single person, except for the devil, beast, and false prophet, from that
point through the millennial reign will be present at the Great White Throne Judgment.
How convicting to realize that each and every person that dies without receiving the Lord
Jesus Christ will stand here condemned. May God help us to witness, preach, evangelize,
send and support missionaries, and set our affections on the things of eternity in these last
of the last days in which we live.

The Copies of the Great White Throne Judgment

Revelation 20:12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God: and the books
were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were
judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
Revelation 20:13b and they were judged every man according to their works.
Revelation 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into
the lake of fire.
We see that there are multiple books at the Great White Throne Judgment. It is my
conviction upon studying the Scriptures that there will be three books.
Book of LIFEv.12 which is the book of life: v.15 not found written in the book of
life
This is the book that contains the names of all saved individuals. It will be a testimony
and proof to those who have never received the Lord Jesus Christ. Henry Ironside
describes it this way:
The Book of Life will be unfolded there, because many people in that vast throng
have taken for granted that their names are there because, perchance, they have
been listed on the roll of some church or religious society.
A person can be the most faithful, fervent, and fundamental church member in the world
but if their name is not on the roll up yonder it does not matter. It will not be the fault
of God that their name is not there but rather of the individual.
II Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count
slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but
that all should come to repentance.
I Timothy 2:4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the
knowledge of the truth.
Luke 19:10 For the Son man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
Hebrews 2:9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for
the suffering of death, crowed with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God
should taste death for every man.
Book of WORKSv.12 written in the books, according to their works. v.13 according
to their works.
As the Apostle John sees the glorified Christ with His eyes as a flame of fire it reminds
us that the Lord Jesus Christ sees everything. There is nothing hid from Him, no secrets,
no surprises.

Matthew 12:36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak,
they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
Luke 8:17 For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any
thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad.
Psalm 50:16-21 16 But unto the wicked God saith, What hast thou to do to
declare my statutes, or that thou shouldest take my covenant in thy mouth?
17 Seeing thou hatest instruction, and casteth my words behind thee.18 When
thou sawest a thief, then thou consentedst with him, and hast been partaker with
adulterers.19 Thou givest thy mouth to evil, and thy tongue frameth
deceit.20 Thou sittest and speakest against thy brother; thou slanderest thine own
mother's son.21 These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou thoughtest
that I was altogether such an one as thyself: but I will reprove thee, and set them
in order before thine eyes.
These unbelievers will be judged according to their works and will be sentenced to their
place in the lake of fire based upon their works. Those who are cast into the lake of fire
will suffer different degrees of punishment.
John 19:11 Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me,
except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee
hath the greater sin.
Matthew 11:20-24 20 Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his
mighty works were done, because they repented not:21 Woe unto thee, Chorazin!
woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had
been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and
ashes.22 But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the
day of judgment, than for you.23 And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto
heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been
done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this
day.24 But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in
the day of judgment, than for thee.
Matthew 22:13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and
take him away, and cast him into outer darkness, there shall be weeping and
gnashing of teeth.
Book of GOD
The Word of God will be there. Throughout the ages there have been those who have
tried their best to destroy the Word of God, diminish the Word of God, and disprove the
Word of God. Yet, the Word of God still goes on! Not only does it continue here but also
it is continually present in heaven. The Apostle Paul stated in II Timothy 2:9 Wherein I
suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound.
Matthew 24:35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass
away.

Psalm 119:89 For ever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven.

Psalm 119:160 Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy
righteous judgments endureth for ever.
John 12:48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that
judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last
day.

The Conclusion of the Great White Throne

Revelation 20:14-15 14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the
second death.15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into
the lake of fire.
Those at this judgment will not have a defense attorney or advocate. A jury of their peers
will not judge them. The righteous judge the Lord Jesus Christ will drop the swift
hammer of judgment upon every unregenerate sinner. There is no blessing, mercy, grace,
forgiveness, or hope at the Great White Throne Judgment. There will not be an innocent
person in hell.
They are THROWNcast into the lake of fire
This word cast gives the meaning of something being thrown or hurled. How sad it
will be to see those cast into the eternal lake of fire. Those who had the opportunity to
receive Christ but now will forever been separated from Him and His blessings. May
God helps us to plead those who are lost to receive Christ before it is too late.
They are TORMENTEDsecond death
I believe one of Satans most deceiving and dangerous tactics is to blind sinners to the
awful reality of hell. Many unsaved people think that hell is a place of eternal parties,
drinking, smoking, and rock and roll music. They think they will be hanging out with
their good timing friends enjoying the same ungodly activities they use to do in life.
Even our young people in this country have been brain washed with the YOLO (you
only live once) lifestyle. While it is certain you only live once, it is even more certain if
you have only been born once you will die twice!
Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the
judgment:
Hell is a place of conscious tormentphysical and psychologicalnot annihilation.
Luke 16:19-31 19 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and
fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:20 And there was a certain beggar
named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,21 And desiring to be fed
with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and
licked his sores.22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by
the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;23 And
in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and
Lazarus in his bosom.24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on
me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my
tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.25 But Abraham said, Son, remember
that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil
things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.26 And beside all this,
between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from
hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from
thence.27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him
to my father's house:28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them,
lest they also come into this place of torment.29 Abraham saith unto him, They

have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.30 And he said, Nay, father
Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.31 And he
said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be
persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
Mark 9:43-48 43 And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to
enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that
never shall be quenched:44 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not
quenched.45 And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt
into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be
quenched:46 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.47 And if
thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of
God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire:48 Where their
worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
Any person who spends eternity in hell will be an intruder. It was not prepared for them.
Matthew 25:41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from
me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
It is not the will of God that ANY perish. How needful it is for preachers today to preach
on hell! It seems that some churches and preachers are too worried about pleasing men
instead of pleasing God. They might think that preaching on such subject might hurt the
crowd or be unpopular. We must preach the whole counsel of God and make sure people
know the punishment of rejecting the Lord Jesus Christ. We must preach such things to
stir up the saints to reach a lost and dying world with the gospel! May we faithfully
strive for the furtherance of the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ to see lost sinners leave
the whosoever of damnation and join the whosoever of deliverance!
