Description | Multiple images were layered together to create a
spiritual message.
Programs | Photoshop
Objectives | Effectivley portray a spiritual message with the use
of the layering technique in Photoshop.
Process | This image was created in Photoshop. I took multiple
images and masked them into the wing of a butterfly. In my
original draft I had a few different images and placement
was different. Through the critique process and the simplify
step in the process, I used the images in a new format. I really
enjoyed intermingling the different shades and textures of blue.
It turned out to be four different images (on top of the wings). I
also used some valuable keyboard shortcuts that helped make
the process of masking much more efficient. While masking, I
would place the image where I wanted on the wing and then I
would put the masking brush at 100% opacity to get rid of what I
didnt want. I would then drop it down to 25% to make the edges
softer and I would play with the image until it would be just
where I wanted it.

Event Ad

Date | 1.31.2016
Description | The image is an advertisement for a charity event.
The event is a tennis tournament and it is being held to benefit
the Wounded Warrior Project.
Programs | Microsoft Word
Objectives | Use a scanned image and Microsoft Word to create
an advertisment for a charity event.
Process | The flier was created using Microsoft Word. I was able
to pick a message and audience and then find a picture that fit
appropriatley. From there I found that choosing the typography
was important. It seems to highlight what the flier has to say.
I also found that the color scheme is very important. By using
hues of blue and green, the colors added to the flier and the
message rather than disctracting the viewer.

Logos
Instructor | Ben Pingel
Course | Comm 130
Date | 2.20.2016
Description | Three logos created for a company.
Programs | Illustrator
Objectives | Create a logo that can be portrayed in three different ways for a paticular company.
Process | I was able to use illustrator to make the logo. The part
that really brought this logo together was picking the right
typography to contrast the design of the logo. With a more
curved style font, the company name really stood out against
the rigid lines of the design. I learned how easy the pen tool is
to use and I also learned how to add shapes together to make
one complete shape. I usually stay away from color schemes
with a lot of colors. But, the top logo has a tetradic color scheme
and that was rewarding to use.

Description | A stationary for an employee at a specidic
company.
Programs | Illustrator and Indesign
Objectives | Create an effective stationary that showcases
the employee and company, as well as being productive as a
stationary.
Process | First I used illustrator to create the logo. This logo
can be seen in the business cards designed as well, to give a
sense of completness to all parts of the design. I then transfered
to Indesign so that I could make a good layout. I picked a
typography that seemed fun anf effective for this desing and
incorporated it in the stationary by making it the watermark. I
put the contact information at the bottom and left a lot of white
space in the middle so that the stationary could be used for its
purpose of being a stationary.

Brochure

Description | A brochure for a salad company.
Programs | Photoshop, Indesign, Illustrator
Objectives | Create an effective brochure that incorporates
many skills learned in the past three months.
Process | I first picked a theme for my brochure. After picking
a mock salad company I sketched out everything that I wanted
and ecspecially worked on how I wanted it to fold. I then found
pictures that I wanted. After that I made a design and added
the body copy I had written up. I made a logo and added it to
the brochure. Indesign was very helpful in putting all of these
different ideas together into a coherent project.

PhotoDesign

Description | A photo with text and design elements that create
a color scheme.
Programs | Photoshop
Objectives | Choose a color scheme and then take a picture so
that the chosen color scheme can then be applied to the image.
Process | I first chose a color scheme of monochromatic blue. I
went out to take pictures with my friends and had them wear all
denim and white. Even though there were other pictures with a
stronger blue presence, I really enjoyed this picture and wanted
to use it here. I was able to saturate it and play with the colors
to make it more cool tones. I then put it in photodesign and did
a majoy editing job to make her skin look clear. I then continued
to add the text and color scheme. This aspect took me a while
too because I had a hard time deciding what I wanted the
overall message to be.

Business Card
Instructor | Ben Pingel
Course | Comm 130
Date | 2.27.2016
Description | A buisness card for an employee at a specific
company.
Programs | Illustrator and Indesign
Objectives | Make an effective business card for an employee.
Process | Illustrator was used to create the logo. I created it
with the brush tool. I then continued on to Indesign where I
was able to finish the design. Allignment was important in this
project to make sure that everything looks professional and
clean. Also, it was important to make sure the logo was seen in
all aspects of the design and that there was a lot of overlap of
the types of shapes and colors used. Typography was important
to make sure that the fonts complimented each other without
disctracting or conflicting. This is a skill I learned from the
Visual Media book.

Web Page
Instructor | Ben Pingel
Course | Comm 130
Date | 3.11.2016
Description | A web page designed to advocate a logo that I
created.
Programs | TextWrangler and Illustrator
Objectives | Create a web page to show a logo for a mock
company.
Process | After picking the logo I made this web page in Text
Wrangler. I first used html to set up the webpage and then
continued on to use CSS to add colors and form. To make sure
that they cooperated, I used a folder and put the different
documents in the same folder. Html was not too difficult because
I just needed to make sure that I followed a specific form.
However, CSS was more difficult. There was a lot of freedom
that was granted to us for this project and the program also
gives designers a lot of freedom. I decided to make the web
page very simple, I find that very effective and powerful. It was
difficult to add more of a color scheme because red is such a
strong color. However, the use of the logo twice and the red
hyperlink seemed to be just enough.

Flier

Descriptio | A flier that is advertising an annual conference
for graduating seniors to learn leadership skills that will help
propel them into the work force.
Programs | Microsoft Documents
Objectives | Effectivley use Microsoft Documents and the criteria
given to create an appealing black and white flier.
Process | InDesign was used to create this flier. I was able to
start by sketching different ideas while also making sure that
I throughly understood the message and the audience that I
would be appealing to. I then continued the design process
by using the FOCUS principles of contrasting, unifying and
simplifying. I found that the simplifying stage was most effective
because I was able to peal away a lot of clutter off of the flier
to come up with a cleaner design.
