The violin, also known as a fiddle, is a string instrument.

It is the smallest,
highest-pitched member of the violin family of string instruments, which also
includes the viola, and the cello. The modern word is derived from the Italian
word violino, literally 'small viola'. Someone who plays the violin is called a
violinist or a fiddler. The violin is played by musicians in a wide variety of
musical genres, including Baroque music, classical, jazz, country music,
bluegrass music, folk music, metal, rock and roll, and soft rock. The violin is
first known in 16th-century Italy, with some further modifications occurring in
the 18th and 19th centuries. A person who makes or repairs violins is called a
luthier. The parts of a violin are usually made from different types of wood.
bows
A violin is usually played using a bow.The hair of the bow traditionally comes
from the tail of a grey male horse (which has predominantly white hair),
though some cheaper bows use synthetic fiber.
The earliest pictures of violins, albeit with three strings, are seen in northern
Italy around 1530, at around the same time as the words "violino" and
"vyollon" are seen in Italian and French documents.
Andrea Amati who is the known developer of the violin. Amati apprenticed as
a lute maker and in 1525, he became a master instrument maker.
The earliest form of the violin is very different from that of today. The early
violins had a neck that was shorter, thicker and less angled. The fingerboard
was likewise shorter, the bridge was flatter and the strings were made of
gut.At first the violin wasn't popular, in fact, it was considered a musical
instrument of low status.

As the popularity of the violin grew, more violins were produced and the violin
was adopted into many different styles of music. Violin players developed
new playing techniques to complement new genres, and the violin was
sometimes modified slightly to fit the needs of the new genre. The violin
became a key instrument used to play traditional songs in Celtic, Irish, gypsy,
and Hungarian music, and was later used to play country/western, bluegrass,
blues and jazz as these genres emerged over time.

The violin is now one of the most popular instruments in the world. The most
famous violin maker is the 'Golden Age' luthier Antonio Stradivari, whose
violins now sell for millions of dollars.. While violins may be famed for their

classical origins, there are many amazing blues, Celtic, country, bluegrass
and popular violin players flourishing in these different musical environmentswhich is one of the many reasons why the violin is such an exciting
instrument to learn!
