Beautiful Nature at Teknaf

Teknaf is named because it lies on a curve or Tek on the


river Naf. At the distance of 505 kilometer from the capital
Dhaka, Teknaf is a part of Coxs Bazar. Teknaf is an upazila, which
is situated at Coxs Bazar District in the division of Chittagong. It
divided Bangladesh and Myanmar. The scenario beside the Naf
River is amazing. If someone visits the river Naf with boat, he/she
can get mesmerized by the view of nature.
Naf Rivers water is mixed with saline water. Nature has
adopted the saline water with many precious gifts. Its banks are
covered with mangrove forest, locally called Berabon. The area
has variety of birds and animals. Kera and Taim are the trees,
present here, which remain unaffected by the saline water and
the saline soil.
Mangrove forests are characterized by pneumatophore, the
straw-like spike, which grow up 100-150 millimeter vertically from
soil. In high tide, crabs and other little creatures climb up the
trees. As soon as the tide goes away, they once again disappear
in the murky soil.
It is very difficult to walk in the mangrove forest for
pneumatophore. There are many land areas for living the human
kind separated by Para. The area of Teknaf is about 381 square

kilometer including the sediments. In the area, everyone is


somehow depended on Naf River for sustaining. Teknaf As well As
Naf River is full of natural resources. They call the river Naf as
Neemrai, means gods river.

produced/collected/harvested. For salt cultivation, there are fields


with high borders called Ail. In high tide, salty water comes here
and gets trapped. When the water dries up, only salt crystals left
behind.
There are lots of fishes present in the river, a variety of
fishes indeed. Fishermen ties their long fishing net or Ghorajal
around the riverbank to trap fishes. In high tide fishes comes with
the wave and get trapped here. A majority of Teknaf people are
fisherman. The fishes are being sold in two ways. One is directly
in bazaar or in the shore market. And, another is dried out the fish
and being sold as Shutki.
The river and the hills combined a spectacular scene. Large
tolars can be seen in the river. The river falls into the Bay of
Bengal. Here, the seagulls can be seen. They periodically seep
into the water to catch fish. An island present here is named as
Shahpari Island where the Bengali Subidar Shah Shujas
unfortunate wife, Paribanu, had taken shelter.
The famous Myanmars city, Mong2, is across the river Naf.
The Naf River falls into the Bay of Bengal. Huge piles of shells are

collected from the sea shore to make lime and foods for animals
and fishes.
Red crabs are the most attractive creatures, here. Their
entire body is red and covered by a hard shell. It has eight legs.
But only six are for transportation and two in front are used as
weapons. It has a pair of long antenna in front with a pair of very
sharp eyes. When the move forward, they look like merge forward
with a red army.
The river flows from the eastern side to west at Bay of
Bengal. The Naf River falls into the Bay of Bengal with a high flow
of tide, making a great wave, keeping its promise to take the
water into the sea.
Teknaf is a beautiful place of Bangladesh. The natural
scenario is enjoyable and stupendous. The resources are well
estimated and the weather is pleasant. Naf River sometimes go
crazy making a huge wave in monsoon but the view beside the
river is unbeaten. The people of the area are fun loving, pleasant
and hard working.
