1 Introduction
EPCONs software products, to prevent unauthorized duplication, utilize a software license management
system. The license server can be installed on a single workstation or network server. A single license file
is utilized for all EPCON software products varying by the number of users and products licensed. The
licensed programs will operate in demo mode until the license server is activated. The license management
system is transparent and is not affected by back-ups, restores, file compression, or disk de-fragmentation.
Please review and carefully follow the instructions given below to ensure a successful and trouble free
installation.

2.2 Getting Started with the CD Installation

1.

Close all other applications that are running and remove any previous installations of the
software using the Add/Remove Program feature in the Windows Control Panel.

2.

Insert the CD in the CD-ROM drive. If you have downloaded the program from the Internet Extract
all the files from the compresses folder and place them in a temporary directory. Load the SETUP.EXE
program to complete the installation as detailed below (the program automatically loads on most
PCs).

2.2.1 Selecting Options during the Installation

1.

At the start of the installation, a Welcome screen appears. Please read the prompts and click the
Next button to proceed with the installation.
Next select the TYPE of installation (Full Install or License Server) from the steps below

2.

The Full Install option provides the Application and License Server files. You will need an
EPCON.lic file to run the program, or connect to a license server.

3.

The License Server option installs just the few files needed to authorize the licensing of the
software. After installation, the LMTools.EXE program needs to be started from Windows
Explorer and instructions given in Section 3.x need to be followed to authorize the program with
the EPCON.LIC file. Install a License Server if you are authorized for concurrent licenses.

4.

You will be asked to specify the directory where the program is to be installed. It is recommended
to use the default setting whose format is compatible with future releases and will not affect earlier
installed versions of the software. A different target directory can be selected by clicking the
Browse button or by typing the directory name (and path) in place of the default directory name.
Setup will create this directory, if it does not already exist, and install the Application files in this
directory.

5.

A summary of the entered installation information will now be displayed; check this information
to ensure its correctness. Installation of files will proceed when you click the Next button.

2.2.2 Completing the Installation

1.

Once all the files have been copied, Setup will register the system files and create a shortcut icon on
the desktop for the main program module. All shortcuts for EPCON software will be listed under
EPCON in the Start menu with a folder indicating each program and version number that contains
the shortcut to the program and help file. During the installation, if any file could not be registered, a
message will be displayed. This is not an error message , click IGNORE to proceed.

2.

After the installation is complete, you may be requested to reboot the machine (optional). After
rebooting, run the program by selecting the shortcut in the Start Menu or by adding a shortcut on your
Desktop.

3.

After the Client Application installation, when the program is first loaded and asks for the location of
the license file, select the path to the EPCON.LIC file on the Network License Server machine (not
required if EPCON.LIC copied to installed program directory on the Client machine). This completes
the Client Application installation of the EPCON software application.

3 Software License
You will need a Software License to run the program. EPCON Software Programs support two kinds of
licensing arrangement

EPCON International

Single Node License: This type of license can only be used on one machine and cannot be transferred to a
different machine
Concurrent Network License: Requires setting up a separate License Server in your companys network.
The EPCON Software Program can be installed on any number of machines, but only a fixed number of
machines can use the software at the same time.
EPCON Policies allow issue of Concurrent Network Licenses only if you have purchased 3 or more
licenses at a single site. For Terminal Server / Citrix server a Single Node license will not run.

Certain information regarding your machine is needed to generate a license. For a Single Node License
EPCON only needs to know the Ethernet (MAC) Address of your machine. In which the program will run.
For a Concurrent Network License EPCON needs to know the Ethernet (MAC) Address and Hostname of
the Machine which will Host the licensing service. The next section details how to get this information for
your machine.

3.1 Retrieving your Machine Information

There are two ways in which Machine Information can be retrieved
1.

The easiest way to get this information is to run the program EZInfo.exe, which is installed with
the application in the License Server Folder. However EZInfo is only installed with new EPCON
software, so you will have to use the next procedure to retrieve this information if you do not have
this file. Copy the Information displayed in EZInfo, and Paste it in an email to
license@epcon.com. Do NOT change any information in the pasted text the email.

The EZInfo Program

2.

Load the LMTools.exe Software License Server Program from the License Server folder. Select
the System Settings tab and provide the Computer/Hostname and Ethernet Address to

EPCON International

EPCON International for the creation of an EPCON.LIC file to authorize the program.
Selecting the Save HostID info to a File button creates a file with this information.

Send e-mail to license@epcon.com with your name, company name, contact information, product
information and the Computer/Hostname and Ethernet Address. It is recommended that you copy
and paste this information from the LMTools program directly into the e-mail to avoid mistakes or
preferably, select the Save HOSTID info to a File and attach this file when requesting authorization.

After you have received an EPCON.lic and want to setup a License Server go to the next steps. For Single
Node Licenses just copies the EPCON.lic file in the Installed folder of the Software and run the program.

3.2 Configuring the License Server

3.2.1 Configure License Server through Script
It is recommended that you use EPCONs Server Configuration Script to set up the license server
1.

Contact EPCON to request a license file through steps (a) and (b) given in Section 3.x. Once
you receive the License File save it in the License Server folder of the Software Installation
Directory.

2.

Download the Server Configuration Script from

http:\\www.epcon.com\downloads\ServerConfig.zip
( NOTE: For SINET 7.0 you dont need to download this file as it is already part of the Full
Install and License Server Installation )

3.

Extract the 2 files in the License Server folder of the Software Installation Directory

4.

Ensure that the following files are present in the License Server folder.
EPCON.lic, EPCON.exe , lmgrd.exe , ServerConfig.exe
If EPCON.exe is missing, copy it from the Installed Directory (one level up to License
Server) of the EPCON Software.

5.

Run the script file SetupServer.bat by double clicking from Windows file explorer.

EPCON International

6.

The Script will configure your server and start the license server for you. You can now use
your EPCON Software Product.

NOTE: The script needs to be run only once. If you already have the License Service setup DO NOT run
the script.

3.2.2 Configure License Server Manually

Load the LMTOOLS.EXE program from the License Server folder of the installed directory. Go through
the following steps to configure the License Server Manually

The LMTools Software License Server Program

1.

Ensure that the following files are present in the License Server folder.
EPCON.lic, EPCON.exe , lmgrd.exe , ServerConfig.exe
If EPCON.exe is missing copy it from the Installed Directory (one level up to License Server) of
the EPCON Software.

2.

Select the Config Services tab in the LMTools License Server program and enter the
information as shown below (1-4). For the Server Name field, select this field with the mouse
and start typing EPCON in capital letters. This will not modify or remove another service name
that may be displayed initially in this input field. Select the Browse button for each of the three
paths and select the corresponding files to automatically enter the full path as shown below. Copy
the license file path and paste it in debug log file section. Then change the name EPCON.lic to
EPCON.log. This will write the log, when the license server starts.

EPCON International

3.

Next, select the Start/Stop/Reread tab in the Lmtools License Server program and click on the
Start Server button to start the EPCON license server program. There may be other company
license servers running in parallel, which will also be displayed. A message indicating that the
license file has been successfully started should be displayed at the bottom of the window.

4.

To verify the EPCON license server is running properly for the number of EPCON product
licenses being ran, select the Server Status tab and click on the Perform Status Enquiry button
to view the license server information. After the EPCON license server is running, the EPCON
software can be ran and the program will be fully functional without any license server error
messages being displayed.

EPCON International

3.3 Locating the License Server

NOTE:

This step is needed only if you have a Concurrent Network License

When you load the Program the first time you will need to tell it the Hostname of the License Server. Most
EPCON Software Programs come up with a dialog box as shown below

Select the 5th Option from the top. It will ask you if you want to specify the location of the Network Server.
Click Yes. Carefully enter the hostname of the Server. Once you press Ok the setting will be saved.
Close the program and restart it again.

EPCON International

You can also copy the License file from the Server into the Installed folder of the Program. In this case the
Program will automatically pickup the location of the License Server from The License file and will not
prompt the user.

4 Troubleshooting the Installation

Please refer to this section if you obtain any error messages during the installation or are having problem
with the license server.

4.1 Some files did not register during the installation

If any of the files did not register during the installation perform the following steps.
1.

Go to START ! RUN. Type in the registration command in the format shown below.
<SYSTEM DIRECTORY>\ regsvr32 <filename that did not register>
For example: c:\windows\system\regsvr32 comdlg32.ocx
Press the Return/Enter key.

If the file does not register using this command, contact the Technical Support Department of EPCON
International.

4.2 License Server Errors

If you obtain a server error, please check the following information:
1.

Verify that the Computer/Hostname and Ethernet Address supplied to EPCON are exactly as shown in
the LMTools program. Please select the Save HOSTID Data to a File button and e-mail this to
EPCON to insure that the EPCON.LIC was generated correctly.

2.

If the computer was not re-booted after installation, re-boot the computer and then STOP and START
the License server using the LMTools program (ran by selecting Authorize in the File menu). Then
restart EPCON software application and take a screen shot of any error messages that are being
generated and send this along with the EPCON.LOG file via email to help@epcon.com

4.3 Error 53: File not found

If you obtain this error message, verify that the directories listed in the DIPPR.SYS and NETWORKS.SYS
files exist on the machine. If not, they must be created or the paths in the DIPPR.SYS and/or
NETWORKS.SYS files must be modified to reflect the correct directory paths.
If you obtain this error message when you have a network install, verify that the last path listed in the
DIPPR.SYS file has the Setup files that are listed below.
a)

Cunits.dat

b) Property.sys
c)

Project.sys

d) Pseudo.sys
e)

Costplus.rsc
