This article is the 1st in a series of 3 articles that will provide a subject wise schedule to prepare for
RRB NTPC exam. In this article we will cover Arithmetic.
There are 100 questions in total in the RRB NTPC (or railways non tech) exam. Out of these,
Arithmetic enjoys a 30% weightage. This implies that 30 questions of 1 mark each, are asked from
different chapters of the arithmetic syllabus in the RRB NTPC exam.
Now let us have a look on How to prepare for the Arithmetic section. The table below provides details
on the following headings :
1. Schedule : This provides a schedule of the day on which you should be covering the concerned
topic(s).
2. Topic : Lists the important topics of the chapter, that you definitely need to cover. There are

Decimals, Normal fraction & Mixed Fraction
between one-another; Squares from 1-30 and
Cubes from 1-15 form the important topics of
this chapter.
High

The concept of percentage is the most

important topic from this chapter.
Percentages are used in questions from across
other chapters as well and also a high number
of questions can be expected from its
applications such as Inflation, Discount, Profit
& Loss, and Simple and Compound Interest.

Profit & Loss,

discount,
inflation

High

Basics of Algebra, specifically, to form linear

equations and solving them are required to
solve various questions on work, speed,
mensuration, etc. Also, 1 or 2 questions can
only be solved with a good knowledge of
forming equations; Forming equations for
questions like Father & Son's Age type, Price
of 2 things, Amount of some material into
mixtures etc

The above provides you with a definitive guide on the topic areas that you need to cover to do well in
the RRB NTPC exams. The above would be very helpful if you are new to preparing for competitive
exams. In that case, you need to first revise all the subject content, as per above schedule, and then
start taking practice tests. However, if you have been preparing for competitive exams, then you
should start with taking a practice test and analyze the weak areas. Then study for these weak areas
and take another test and so on.
Eclonline.com also provides a range of online practice tests in Hindi and English for the railways non
tech exam, from a set of very good publishers.
