Through December 2010: Transcript Review and screening. By Dec. 2010: Take and pass Praxis I Exam. Apply, be accepted,
and successfully substitute teach in MCPS. Prior to January 2011: Candidate must sign MCPS and JHU Memos of
Understanding. Prior to May 2011: Submit reference from school-based administrator on MCPS form 445-16. By May 2011:
complete all content course work. By June 2011: Take and pass Praxis II Content Exam(s); cease outside employment

Selection for ProMAT for eligible applicants takes into consideration the following: applicant
background, writing ability, interview results (including perceptions of attitudes for teaching),
and MCPS staffing needs.

Placement as a Teacher of Record is dependent on successful completion of content and JHU


coursework and the Praxis II Content Exam. Candidates who are not successful as Teachers of
Record may be eligible to continue in another JHU program option; however, they will be required
to pay all tuition costs paid initially by MCPS if participation in Montgomery ProMAT is
terminated.

Prior to beginning the first summer of JHU coursework, Montgomery ProMAT candidates must
have:
completed all content coursework with a grade of at least “B” for each course;
passed the Praxis II Content Exam(s); and
obtained positive recommendations from an administrator of a school in which they have
substitute taught.

In order to graduate, Montgomery ProMAT candidates must have:


completed all JHU coursework with a 3.0 GPA;
prepared and presented a portfolio;
completed all certification requirements, including passage of the Praxis II Pedagogy Exam;
obtained positive recommendations from supervisors and the school principal;

Successful completers of Montgomery ProMAT commit to an additional two (2) years of MCPS
teaching upon offer of a contract by MCPS. This represents a total commitment of three (3)
years.
